2021-2022 NYU, Long Island

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
All in all, I think they need to accept their mistake and keep us in the loop. It’s unfair to us as applicants to face literal mental distress and neuroticism as a result of their mistake. Their admissions department reads the SDN forum, why would they not be reading it when something so big is going on? They’re definitely on this forum, know what’s going on, and have not made any rapid response to the situation
I agree, stuff happens and I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but their *lack of* prompt response may be quite revealing of how administration might be at the school in responding to student needs and concerns

Edit: kinda ironic how their financial aid webinar which was meant to draw us to the school was a turnoff to many, especially when paired with today's events

it honestly sucks, I’m in a really tough situation financially and was hoping and praying for this school
Me too. I'm so sorry. But I would not give up hope; tbh I think if IT and admin folks are updating what they think is the back-end of the portal, it's possible if not likely that they goofed something up and rather than selecting individually the 24 students who are actually admitted they just pressed 'select all' or accidentally uploaded letters to the first X number of applicants whose AMCAS IDs are listed in descending order or something. I know I'm not explaining this well but I work with different types of databases and web publishing tools and I can totally see that kind of F up happening.

^^^ this

it is 200% possible that this is all random because this definitely was not supposed to happen. At first, there was no text under the "Admissions decision" tab. Only under the offer letter. And while they added text under the "admissions decision" tab, the "accept offer" tab was non-functional. This was clearly not supposed to happen, and they were likely updating their portal in preparation for next week and just messed up.

If this is the case they need to just email us all and explain what happened... this whole day has given me heartburn

I will say that when this is over, regardless of whether I get an A/WL/R or some new status that they made up because they're emotional terrorists, I will be BLASTING them over how they treated applicants this cycle. This is wholly unacceptable, unprofessional and shows they are not only sloppy and disorganized but disrespectful towards the people who they claim are needed to fix our broken healthcare system. I'm very done with this sh-t. I have told off a school before and I'll fckin do it again 🙂 yeah I know it won't change anything but it will feel GOOD and i'm desperate for any serotonin at this point

Hold up.. Do any of the acceptees have first or last names that start with the first letters of the alphabet? *neuroticism intensifies*

But I think we'll just be getting silence. They took everything down hours ago. It doesn't take that long to draft an email saying it was a mistake

Could be by AMCAS ID or whatever too... the only disheartening thing is that if it was really a mistake wouldn't they just say that to us via email? Unless it did truly go to the 24 accepted folks and they just dont wanna confirm that? But why would they not just tell us the decisions then instead of dragging it out until Tuesday/Wednesday?

Exactly. We are all anxious about this either way. They already have egg on their face

does anyone know how their waitlist process worked in the past? and how many people do they typically waitlist?

Interviewed in September. Listen, lets y'all do a challenge. No more posts about those letters until we hear back from them. How does that sound?

LOL, I'm too naive to believe that even I'll be able to just let it go
This is the epitome of self awareness and self discipline. Unfortunately, I do not have that today 😂

NYULISOM emails us challenge initiated
SDN calms down challenge initiated
Idk which is more likely tbh

One thing I can say for sure is that we would make a great team on solving clinical cases, considering us as try-hards trying to figure out what just happened and coming up with all those guesses and weird scenarios.

This is wild. First I was put on the fake waitlist then from there put into the final group. Next I was sent an email that I was on hold. THEN I was told I’m actually still in the final pool and that it was a mistake. Now I’m reading this thread and my head is spinning.

This is nuts. Genuinely there needs to be a class action lawsuit against AMCAS and all accredited MD schools. Racketeering charges or smthg. Emotional damages. Idk

Guys, just received this email:

Dear whataweirdo,

It has been brought to our attention by our admissions software vendor that an “admissions decision” tab on your portal was erroneously activated, and that earlier today you viewed certain portal pages that are currently under construction.

Please be advised no acceptance or waitlist decisions have been issued; admissions notifications will be communicated beginning Tuesday, February 15.

We apologize for any confusion that this may have caused.

Kind regards,

The NYULISOM Admissions Team

So, there's our answer. It was a glitch. See you guys Tuesday 🙁

I did NOT get this email lol. Which I take to mean I was not one of the false acceptances; tbd if that means I’m not a real acceptance either

Got the same email.
Well, reversing my expectations back to 0

I didn’t even see the tab but got the email. But I guess after putting me on a waitlist then hold erroneously then in the final pool they probably thought they should send it just in case 😂
