2021-2022 Pittsburgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
They send an email to check the portal, but no decision through email. Based on other years sometimes it's sent the same time as the portal update but other years there's a delay
oh didnt even realize they sent out an email at all. good to know! still going to be checking the portal every once in a while bc i cannot help myself 😢

Last year I didnt get the email until a while after decisions were released on the portal.
Also there's no phone calls (or at least there weren't last year)

I just want to say that periodically checking this sub throughout the work day and seeing all y’all’s posts is so lovely. It’s like we have our own little community support group for neuroticism.

Thanks for all the warm and fuzzies! ❤️

I have another acceptance I prefer, so I haven't been paying the most attention this this thread. Then, I literally started reading this thread and began frantically checking my portal and getting nervous. Then I was like wait, what am I even doing lol. This panic is infective.
Congrats, I guess.....

yup, I've tried my best to withdraw from unis the soonest I can post-decision. Pitt said they give no non-need aid right? So probs no point waiting for an FA package.
In the same boat.
Do people get full rides there???

If there is no chance I can withdraw ASAP

So I went to one of the financial aid sessions they offered. I’m a FAP applicant, and expect to get need aid at schools. The officer was highlighting how during the pandemic, Pitt increased their aid packages. Prior, their largest need-based grants/scholarships were $40k, but during the pandemic they went up to $50k.

Tl;dr I don’t thinking they give any full tuition aid, let alone full COA. Their average indebtednesses at graduation, not including undergrad balances, is $195k.

Does anyone know if earlier interviews have a higher chance of getting an A? Since they don’t do rolling admissions it makes me think that it doesn’t matter as much. Anyone know the trend from previous years?

according to the adcom bylaws they have on the website they do have regular meetings through the interview season to rank candidates, so i would assume early interviewees are at an advantage

+1, seemed that for the folks hoping for merit-based were encouraged to apply for outside scholarships and institutional loans. I was at work during the info session so I had to take notes on my phone, if anybody wants/needs a lil screenshot of them DM me. It’s not super in-depth or anything, just a few facts and figures

I'd say at most schools earlier interviewees have an advantage cause, all else being equal, they saw something they liked about those applicants more that made them not hesitate to invite them. Of course all dates will have a chance and some amazing applicants don't submit until later but there's definitely a correlation there.

I would think the opposite actually. The ranks are constantly rearranging as the review new candidates. At the end when acceptances are given, it’s based on highest rankings regardless of interview dates

There has to be at least some advantage to non-rolling admissions for later applicants over traditional rolling admissions. Even if it is slight.

Totally a theory but since Pitt's adcom meets on Thursday's maybe the moved status meant your decision is already determined and at today's meeting they discussed the last few applicants which is why not everyones was changed. Hopefully that means today they finalized everything and decisions tomorrow then.

Pretty sure the people who originally saw no change realized they were looking in the wrong place

but from previous threads, it seems like portal changes happen before they release decisions. Someone else curated this list of times and days from the past few years:
