secondary submitted just now. How long until the application is marked as complete?

If I applied in a previous cycle with my primary but never submitted the secondary would I still have to answer the 5th question? I am assuming because it specifies completed application no, but I just want to make sure. Anyone else in the same boat?

Completed application probably means an application marked complete on their secondary portal (with secondary submitted, LORs, MCAT). So I would venture to say that you can mark no. You can always contact them and ask if you want to be certain.

Has anyone figured out the specificity of the prompt below? I am unsure how to best approach it still.

What in your current/future activity/activities have/will contribute to diversity, health equity and social justice? (200 words)

Like others above, I am unsure how to answer this question since I have extensive background and previous experiences that would work well but am not currently involved with anything of the nature? Does SUNY Downstate want us to specifically ONLY mention current or future activities and nothing from the past even if it was super recent?

Hey, so funny story...

I submitted my secondary to SUNY Downstate on 7/13. When I was completing my primary app, I went off of MSAR and the school websites when assigning LORs--in total, I have 5 ranging from advisor (professor), 3 professors (2 science), coach, and my employer (healthcare provider). I was just checking through my portals bc 'tis the season for pre-R holds, and just saw that SUNY Downstate only wants 2 individual letters. I've seen other applicants in this similar situation be told that the school will choose 2 to look at, but I was wondering if anyone on this thread has been in a similar situation with this school? This is the first school where my secondary has an error, and I am very frustrated with MSAR's info.

I sent them 3 individual letters too and have been in constant communication with the school since July….they’ve been asking for other documents but as far as lors are concerned they didnt mention anything

I literally just ran into this too. Are you planning on reaching out specifying which two you want them to read? Not sure what the proper protocol is here

This is somewhat of a desperate cry for help. I genuinely have good reasons for being interested in downstate (they have opportunities that align with my current activities and goals) but im out of state and i've never lived in a big city so I'm not sure how I could answer the question about "describe what personal, urban experiences prepare you to live and study in New York City." does anyone have any ideas :(

Have you visited NYC? If so, what aspects of urban life appealed to you? You could also probably use experiences visiting/spending time in another big city to show how you could acclimate?

In their email, they mentioned they're doing VITA in addition to a virtual interview, but I thought VITA was no longer being offered by AAMC this cycle?

Question for you guys! So as I was filling out the secondary app with the pre-reqs, I noticed that it said any class that a student received a C- will not be accepted. I missed this detail when applying. I'm a non-traditional student and way back when like 5+ years ago, I received a C- in Ochem I. Am I totally screwed in continuing to apply here? I took Ochem II and Ochem III and my grades obviously showed that my C- in Ochem I was not indicative of my performance in the subsequent series.

Anyone else stuck with this problem in some other class? Any advice in how I should proceed?

Typically when they say they do not accept a C- for prerequisite courses, they're referring to a C- semester grade, not trimester. So if I were you, I would tell them your situation and make sure to mention that you took Orgo 1, 2, AND 3 since most applicants come from schools using the semester system and thus only have Orgo 1 and Orgo 2. Since you have 3 different grades for Orgo and are saying that you performed better in the 2nd and 3rd parts of the course, they may consider taking the average of the courses instead? Definitely reach out and plead your case haha, they should also take into account that it was 5 years ago!

Ah thank you so much for the reply! My undergrad institution was based on the quarter system. I'll definitely contact them and plead my case. I'll post here again when I get an answer on what to do in case anyone else is in a similar situation.

what interview dates were available for you? right now I'm only seeing 9/8 and the next open ones are in March...I'm wondering if its a glitch in their system or if all those slots really got taken....

The dates I saw were only for September but it was Sept 7, 8, 9 and then I think 13, 14 and 15?

That definitely doesn't make any sense because it they have probably sent out only maybe 10% of their total IIs, so try reaching out tomorrow asap to see what's up.

I think it's a weird glitch in their system cuz legit this morning (I wanna say around 11am?) I saw the 23rd and 24th available. I feel like there's no way those slots got taken so quickly unless they are only interviewing one person per slot...For me it took like 1 day to see more slots available. But if you don't see any by tomorrow I would try calling

Anybody else's portal say that "Committee letter not yet received" in the application checklist section even though you received the complete email many weeks ago?

I just submitted my primary and I am so curious about how they evaluate OOS applicants, anyone have any insights? This school is kind of low-key but I like the vibe

Got put on hold until the end of the year last week. OOS, complete 7/29

Does anyone have information on this school's post II acceptance rate or any numbers pertaining to this?

Received Interview on Sunday at about 830 PM

Congrats! Mine was very casual, interviewer was super nice. Mostly just had a conversation but he did mention he had some questions from the adcom that he needed to fill out so I gave my answers to those (they were about specific ECs, classes, etc.). Really enjoyed speaking with him.

Writing exercise is writing a paragraph describing an image they assign you. I imagine it's for getting a writing sample of some sort. Other than that, there was another phone interview with a student a few days later, mostly just conversation with some questions here and there. Good opportunity to learn more about the school environment as a student.

Overall, really good vibes from both the interviewer and student!

Congrats on interviewing!! How long are the interviews??

Thanks! About an hour with faculty on Zoom and 30 minutes with student over phone.

Thanks for the information, did you feel the questions asked were pretty generic or were there any curve ball questions that you would say you had a difficult time answering?

edit: how long does the response to the picture take? I'm worried I won't make it by the 4 pm est deadline
