Are you IS?Just received pre-II R. Was complete back in July, ORM, LM 75. Good luck to everyone still in the running!
They’ve been sending them for a while. It’s a T5 school so the odds for anybody are minusculeHave many people who are IS gotten a pre-II R? I feel like I'm the only one who got the R so early on...
Would it be weird to reach out to UCSF and ask how to improve my app?
I'm only seeing OOS reported on here. Yes, sdn is not representative of the entire applicant pool, but I was just wondering what was so poisonous about my app hahah edit: especially since they are MCAT blindThey’ve been sending them for a while. They only accept updates from those who already interviewedDoes anyone know if UCSF accept application updates pre-II? And if so, should it be sent through email or the portal?
Today marks 14 weeks for me and still radio silenceSo today will be 13 weeks since submitting secondary (which how long they said it would take)
Probably gonna get an R today
15 weeks at 2 days here but who's counting 😉Today marks 14 weeks for me and still radio silence

Instead of rejecting "large number of admirable people", maybe do something admirable like creating more spots for people who genuinely want to go to UCSF. Instead of looking at stats and creating "intense competition for admission", make it more admirable for those who might not have the best stats, but their journey shows how much hard work they put into making it so far. Coming from a village where we had no girls attending college, I became the first one to graduate college. It was my first time in college, and I didn't have the best strategies to studying. I still persevered. It makes the effort seem not so worthy when you get R just because there is "intense competition" that is created by these institutions in the first place.Pre-secondary R recieved today at 3:04 pt. Verified 07/13. Good luck everyone else who applied to UCSF, wishing you all the best
We greatly appreciate your interest in attending the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine. I am sorry to inform you that the Committee on Admissions has decided not to advance your application for 2022.
We have come to this decision reluctantly. It is based on the Committee’s review of your AMCAS application, including your academic record, outside activities and personal statement. This adverse decision does not mean that we believe that you are unqualified to enter this medical school on either personal or scholarly criteria. It simply reflects the intense competition for admission here. We have a limited number of available positions, and because of this we must turn away a large number of admirable people, most of whom go on to successful careers elsewhere.
I sincerely hope that you will be able to attend medical school in 2022 and am sorry that we cannot accommodate you at UCSF.
Seems like they might be going in order for R's. I was complete July 30, and no secondary yet. I guess the R should be coming soon.Pre-secondary R recieved today at 3:04 pt. Verified 07/13. Good luck everyone else who applied to UCSF, wishing you all the best

This. I can understand the frustration, but it's a bit unfair. UCSF is a top-tier institution, ranks top 5 in everything. So we can't assume it's not going to be tough. As compared to other T10 schools, I think UCSF does the best job of taking a holistic approach. There are better schools than UCSF its full of rich, snobby, privilleged kids who have access to the best mcat programs. They dont accept people from low tier schools who are not ranked by Forbes or schools that have big reputations.
I know this is n=1, but someone from my school (I believe it's ranked around #400 in the USA) got an II/A to UCSF last year. So clearly that's not all they are looking for. There are better schools than UCSF its full of rich, snobby, privilleged kids who have access to the best mcat programs. That means they fully consider your primary application and if they don't believe you will be invited to an interview, you will not need to waste money on a secondary. Isn't that a good thing? How does one be the best at a holistic approach if not everyone receives a secondary and it’s MCAT blind? Wouldn’t the best be the ones that take everything into account? Including all interested students?

The MCAT (like SAT and ACT) likely follows the trend where the more money you have, the higher you score. There's a lot of biases for sure in MCAT testing. I do wish they consider MCAT, my MCAT is stronger than my GPA.
I'm not saying their process is perfect either, but look at NYU. Look at Columbia. Schools with MCAT averages over 520.
I feel you. I think the same thing about my primaries and the secondaries.Yea i def believe they give real consideration to the primary. I guess I’m just frustrated because i know a lot of people, myself included, shine through in their secondary responses.
The primary is kinda blandish cause of the limited space/characters, which is why the secondaries is what usually allows us to speak more about ourselves. Especially the secondaries that ask good questions like Kaiser, CUSM + others. So like, idk. I just find it hard to be TRULY holistic if you’re literally looking at something that is intended to be kinda general and non specific.

Just got a secondary, verified early august. Wondering if a secondary this late is a good thing or a bad thing![]()
I don't think it's either good or bad. It's just a reflection of when they got to you. Based on the number of people they are rejecting pre-secondary, it's clearly not a money grab by them, and that's a good thing! And, as was said above, it's definitely better than the alternative.Just got a secondary, verified early august. Wondering if a secondary this late is a good thing or a bad thing 🤔
Except they didn't look at MCAT at all prior to interview, have a high % of URM and have nearly 1/5 of students being first gen, far higher than many other schools (e.g. NYU with that 3% fgli)There are better schools than UCSF its full of rich, snobby, privilleged kids who have access to the best mcat programs. Hurts that im a first gen and DV survivor with a 4.0 gpa despite ALL ODDS but got R’d. n=1 but someone i know who got into ucsf a year ago had rich parents send her to Africa and do a mission trip there :// irdk what these top schools are looking forExcept they didn't look at MCAT at all prior to interview, have a high % of URM and have nearly 1/5 of students being first gen, far higher than many other schools (e.g. NYU with that 3% fgli)

Even if my parents had the money, my parents would never understand what volunteer work is and mission trips. They would always question me like how is that even related to medicine and why do you gotta do all this. Must be nice to have parents who are proactive and understand the process here. End of rant. Thanks for coming to my TedTalkm not a competitive person, so this whole app
Crying +1, hoping, and praying...Oh well lol. Nothing i can do about it except cry on anonymous forums.
There's few people who don't want to go to UCSF. So your idea isn't feasible and simply idealistic. I commend u for all u pushed through but the process is hard. Not enough resources to just "create more spots." Not enough residency spots. And UCSF is the most holistic school of any institution. Secondaries are as cookie cutter as primaries. Very few people shine. Better to not waste your time and money giving out secondaries to everyone. And everyone's on an even playing field with primaries. It's holistic cuz u don't auto get a secondary or II based on just stats. Everyone's activities, essays, letters, get looked at
Only one month (give or take a couple weeks) until they're supposed to release results! I interviewed one of the earliest days they had, and am extremely lucky to have received an acceptance to USF Morsani, but UCSF is unequivocally my #1 so I'm really hoping I get some good news in Decemberanyway....
any movement this week ladies & gents? Any IIs this morning? 🤓
Wishing the best for those waiting on those precious As!

Best of luck to you as well! It's funny how the UC's work - UCSF thought I was good enough for an early secondary and interview, but UCSD gave me the soft R and UCLA's ghosted me so far. Davis and Riverside didn't even send me a secondary lmao. Guess it just goes to show how unexpected the admissions process is, given the absurd seller's market of med school admissions that we've grown to know and love.Heck yea! That’s so awesome. Wishing you the best!. Your A is def coming!
