Can we send updates/letters to admissions post-interview? If so, how?
You can send update letters to the admissions department email address. The language they used in the post-interview email was specifically "update letters", so I'm not sure if that definition includes LOIs or not.

Does anyone know if UCSF will be sending any more secondaries or have they sent all of them out by now?

Did you fill out a secondary? When did you turn that in?
Yeah I got the secondary July 16th and had it submitted July 26th.

Goodluck to all the future doctors applying here! I'm sure you guys will crush it!

Also just got the pre-II R. 521 3.95 complete 7/20 (like turned in secondary 7/20) OUCH I loved this school. Good luck to all you amazing applicants out there 🙂

Jesus Christ those stats. I know you’re gonna get in somewhere but man, what the hell does UCSF want if they are rejecting people like this! Unbelievable

They might just be emphasizing mission fit or a really strong personal statement. I thought with my stats I would never get consideration from this school but I had an interview 10/19.

513, 3.76 GPA, OOS complete 8/14 and URM. If anyone has stats like mine and is still waiting for an II don't give up hope!!

One thing everyone needs to remember is MCAT is not looked at to offer interviews, so in that regard knowing someone's MCAT doesn't tell you much. Only after interview will the MCAT be used to stratify it seems

How does UCSF feel about entrepreneurship? I submitted 7/31 but have heard nothing so far. Do they reject you as soon as they know they don't want you?

Oh I totally forgot that they screen without the mcat. Makes me wonder how thoroughly they read the activity section and PS before even offering a secondary
I understand that UCSF reads the applications quite thoroughly. Indeed, I have a friend who applied last August (2020), received a secondary in late October, and was ultimately accepted - and with a 495 MCAT and 3.6 GPA no less. (UCSF weighs non-academic activities and community commitments very heavily - and does not accord as much weight to "numbers" as other schools given that the "numbers" apparently carry strikingly minimal import in how well one will do as a practicing physician.)

Interesting assertion. UCSF’s average class MCAT is what - around 516 or so. That’s a top 4% score. It would appear that UCSF does believe that MCAT scores matter if you go by UCSF’s actions. Are there many or any MD programs that have a class MCAT average of below 500 or even below 505?

Are there studies that back up your view?

If you read the original comment thread they are talking about screening before a secondary. Not sending acceptances

So Stats most likely matter after reviewing the entire application, and post- interview

Actually, the comment did say that the person did not receive a secondary until October, AND WAS ULTIMATELY ACCEPTED, with a 495 MCAT.

I think the correct answer is that this person is an outlier, and that the mere fact that even a single person could make it through a secondary screen and then be accepted to a T5 school with a score like that demonstrates that UCSF does not place as much weight on stats as its peers. No need for studies or MD programs with means below 505 or 500 to make that point! 🙂

okay

My point bone of contention is the claim by the poster that MCAT scores have no connection to physician competence.

Literally, no one believes that especially when we’re talking about very low scores.

I wonder when UCSF stops sending secondaries
from looking at last years thread it looked like they sent a few through November. Albeit not nearly as many as months prior. So hopefully there's still a few coming out

Has anyone with an interview on November 2 received any information about it? I’m interviewing for JMP

Ehh. Don't really want to join you in that rabbit hole. 🙂 Suffice it to say that AAMC itself claims that scores above 500 demonstrate a competence to handle the academics of medical school, which is all the test is designed to measure.

The quest for scores above that is just another indicia of the nuclear arms race that we call med school admissions. Since the test was never designed to be a predictor of physician competence, there really is no point going there. I have no doubt plenty of people who are either weak students or poor standardized test takers would make excellent physicians, given a chance. The fact that many DOs, who invariably have weaker stats than MDs, make superlative physicians, more than proves this point.

Does UCSF review applications chronologically? I saw that the R wave that came recently was for people who were complete in July.

My primary was verified in August and the UCSF secondary came a month after verification. I was wondering if they sort of screened their secondaries. I completed mine in September so I can expect not to hear from them for a while.

I was complete in July and still haven't heard anything so not sure if they review chronologically
