2021-2022 Wayne State

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II today, complete: 07/09, OOS + no ties, LM66, (I don't remember if this is a casper school, but if so, 4th q casper). If you were complete in July, don't give up hope lol.
People keep saying ties of no ties but I did not see a place to put in ties on the application? Other schools ask “do you have family” etc?

There was a question "Which of your experiences or activities align with WSU SOM’s mission?" I think you could reasonably fit in what kind of ties you have to the state/region if you had any.

Completed my secondary and everything on 08/21 for this school. I have heard nothing. Would y'all say it's safe to say nothing will come of it?

I was complete mid August and still nothing. i think they've given out a lot of interviews already.

I more so meant no ties to the location. For example, if my home state was RI but I did undergrad in MI & had some ECs there then that would be a tie to the area that is evident in my application regardless of OOS status.

Not to give you false hope but I was complete early July & just heard back over the weekend. Unfortunately you just never know.

I didnt complete my secondary last year until late august last year and received an II from wayne in late november so there is still plenty of time

I have been MIA from SDN for a little while, but I was fortunate to have gotten an acceptance on 10/15 at 12:08AM! My interview was 9/24, OOS, 3.55 GPA, 3.42 sGPA, and 511 MCAT. Super excited to meet the rest of y'all soon and I am praying for those of you who are waiting on the A! <3

Is Wayne State receptive to update letters pre-II? I recently got promoted in my job and started a new clinical research role and wanted to update, while also showing my continued interest in the school

Hi everyone! Current M1 @ WSUSOM, happy to answer any questions about the area, school, extracurriculars etc! Good Luck this cycle 🙂

How have you liked living in Detroit? I’m coming from a very suburban/semi rural area of the east coast, so if I go to Wayne it’s going to be quite the living adjustment haha.

Also, how do you feel about the admin? I’ve read that in the past there were some frustrations as well as issues with maintaining DMC as a clinical affiliate? Not sure how that was resolved though or how recent that was.

Is that their max? I know they’ve also sent out Rs too right?
The number interviewed on MSAR says 1184, but I think it's also safe to say they're taking a different approach this year in terms of number of interviews. I had a roommate last cycle who interviewed there in April. Between October and April there's absolutely no way they only have 100 interviews left. My guess is that they have a higher number of IIs but probably an equal number of acceptances this cycle. It would reflect really poorly on them if they essentially finished their cycle right now and wasted six months.

Detroit is honestly amazing. I will say I've pretty much lived in the suburbs of Detroit my whole life but never really got to experience the city up close. The food scene is amazing and barring COVID there is always something going on in the city. I have always had a soft spot for Urban areas but was always worried that I'd get exhausted living in a place like NY or Chicago. Detroit manages to feel like both a big city and small town, honestly can't get enough of it. There are also plenty of affordable living options in and around the area (just do your research ahead of time, there are some notoriously bad places with malicious landlords).

In regards to the administration thing, Wayne definitely has their moments. With that being said, I have lots of friends that attend medical schools all over the country and many of them share the same frustrations I have with faculty/admin. IMO, The medical school ecosystem seems to force schools who care about ranking ( and let's be honest who doesn't) to adapt and consistently find new ways to create competitive advantages. Wayne is getting better at implementing changes but they still leave some loose ends that students often get caught in. If you want specifics feel free to DM me, id be happy to discuss any of this further 🙂.

From my understanding, the DMC thing will not affect us by any means. It seems to be something that affects the higher level admin in regards to contract specifics and all that fun stuff. Wayne still offers a plethora of rotating sites and you will be getting exposure to a broad range of interesting cases. Word on the road is that PDs loves Wayne Students and how well prepped they are as first year residents and I can see why that's the case. Hopefully this provides some clarity, lmk if you have more questions!

This makes me even more excited to have been accepted to Wayne! (Especially the food bit lol) My student interviewers seemed genuinely happy to be there and it seemed like the culture of the school is very low-key. Thank you so much for the detailed response.

Can someone who interview please tell me how many minutes we get to think about our response for the mmi and how many minutes our responses can be?

Hello everyone!! Would it be too late to submit a primary to this school? Thank you!

Was complete 8/16. Still no response.
Time to give up hope?

I mean their deadline isn't until 12/31 so I would send one! I think they'll send out way more IIs than last year given the reasons I provided here:

Just submitted my primary to this school. A little late to the party but no harm in trying!

Just got a promotional email from here and thought it was an II smh
Same! Got so excited then angry. Lol. Why are they sending me promotional emails? Lol. I have t heard back at all. No R. No W. No A. What’s better - to be placed on a wait list or not to have heard back at all? 514 MCAT. 3.97 GPA. Interview completed Aug 27. OOS.

Hey! quick question:

Does anyone know if they require interviewees to use a zoom background during the interview? (I think some schools allow you to use a custom background with their logo)

I'm a little concerned about this because when I try to put a blank background on my zoom it does not work. I have tried updating my zoom, using a green screen, etc and it still just doesn't work.

Any feedback from those who already interviewed would be really appreciated! thanks

I interviewed already, nothing was told to us about backgrounds. Most people in my session didn't edit their backgrounds

Hi, quick question:

Does anybody who interviewed in the morning session know exactly what time you get out? I have an exam on the same day I am interviewing lol and want to get some studying in. Also, do you know if we are allowed to take notes during the thinking portion of the MMI, or is it kinda like a mental brainstorm? Thanks!

I wanna say the entire interview day lasted 3 hours. So I may have gotten done around 11.
And I did take notes. They didn't explicitly state not to like some other schools. And I got an A so I'm guessing it was allowed haha.

Anyone that submitted mid September OOS get an II yet or a R?

How long after interview did those that got acceptance or waitlist hear back?
