2022-2023 Johns Hopkins

+1 sort of. My stats aren't that high but same situation. I was sent the email almost immediately after I submitted on 7/19 though. So I don't think I would have been included in that stellar stat early push through since I have solid stats but not sky high (517/3.78). Maybe I have been silently rejected but I don't really believe that is the case just yet. Maybe I am an optimist lol.
Same camp but with slightly worse stats. I’m just gonna accept the rejection at this point lmao.

Hi everyone, I just received a "secondary complete" email even though I submitted in July?? I can't seem to figure out why it wasn't complete either. Any insights?

lol completely 7/12 radio silence, probably done for this school

For everyone who is concerned about II and stats I'll say this:

Hopkins does like high stats (like any top 10 school) but they really emphasize holistic candidates. I submitted my secondary mid october (I kept psyching myself out of submitting lol) and got an II in December for a late Jan interview. My stats were 3.9ish science GPA and 513 MCAT. My Lizzy M was like 75ish if I remember correctly. I got accepted without being put on WL and know many classmates who came off WL that had much higher MCATs than me. I know it's so hard to do, but comparing stats isn't going to give you the best predictor! Hopkins really values well-rounded applicants and not just high MCAT scores! There is hope and with some of the stats you guys are posting I think Hopkins would be dumb not to extend an II! There's still lots of time for them to review! Also keep in mind they review in "batches" each month or so! Try not to gaslight yourselves into thinking you aren't awesome candidates! Any school would be lucky to have you guys <3

Feel free to message me with any questions :D

Yo, I appreciate your energy. You're a spot of light on this neurotic website. But you sound more like an exception than the rule. Looking at the stat spread of Hopkins is pretty grim. UCSF and Harvard are two top schools that emphasize holistic candidates and Harvard's 10% is a 514 and UCSF's is a 511. Hopkins' 10% is a 518 according to MSAR. It seems like they're interested in superstars first and foremost, which is understable — it is Hopkins.

Hey! So I am by no means saying all you need to get in is a 513 because, you're right, it falls at the bottom of Hopkins's stats on MSAR. What I was trying to get at is that scoring a 515 instead of 518 is not what's going to make or break an application. Depending on the year (since MCAT is scored by percentile) that three point difference can come from just a handful of questions. AdComms are well aware of this and, therefore, do not make decisions between applicants based on MCAT alone. It's definitely a factor that gives them a good idea of your testing abilities, critical thinking skills, and whether or not you can handle the academic rigor of medical school. However, there are many other parts of an application that can also demonstrate these qualities.

Additionally, Hopkins will use previous years as "templates" for incoming years because they greatly emphasize collaboration among peers and prioritize having diversity in academic backgrounds and life experience. For this reason, they genuinely prefer well rounded students and emphasize holistic application reviews during their deliberations.
These added variables make it very difficult to determine your "chances" of acceptance at Hopkins if you go by stats alone. I hope this clarifies the point I was trying to make! :D

I submitted my application to Hopkins yesterday night. Does Hopkins send an email confirmation that they received the secondary? I haven't gotten confirmation about that yet.

I submitted 9/7 and got confirmation email 9/12. It might take a few days.

I thought so too. Just got II now, and was complete before you. So they're still sending out IIs and they're not going only in chronological order. Interview season is far from over (despite what I've been telling myself repeatedly). Also GPA <10th percentile ORM, so.

For anyone who's interviewed already. They have 1 hour time slots for both faculty/student interviews, do you really use up the whole hour? And how was the general vibe of the interview, more conversational or more traditional? Thanks.

not at all. interviews finished in 20-30 minutes in my case.
definitely more conversational? seemed like they had a few standardized questions they had to ask, then just asked some things out of curiosity/getting to know me better, and that was that.

Is everyone who applied here a super high achiever in the 99th percentile? Or are there any other dreamers like myself who have an acceptable profile and are just shooting their shot because even though they think/know they don't have a chance, they still just wouldn't be able to live with themselves if they didn't just give it a try.

Me. Low stats. Like trash bin and shredder stats. (but went to Harvard and Dartmouth). Miracle if I’m even II.

I have high stats but more like 94% MCAT and a pretty normal 3.78 GPA. So definitely not 99% madness. I have hope!

Def not a 99er, let's push the boundaries of holistic review together!

Don't lose hope! I know someone who interviewed at Hopkins in Feb and got an A a few weeks after. They even bypassed the waitlist O. O

My MCAT was below their 10th percentile and I got an II. They seem pretty holistic to me. ORM too. I wouldn't lose hope!!

for anyone who has interviewed already, did JHU give you the name of your interviewers before the interviews?

Am I understanding the schools financial aid correctly? They do not offer merit aid and instead its all need-based. Does someone who has an EFC of 0 get basically a full ride?
It likely means you’ll get some kinda aid which may be like loans. Financial aid isnt all grants/scholarships

Pretty sure aid includes scholarships, grants, and also loans. Need-based aid includes loans, that's probably what they mean, not exactly a full-ride

Anyone know if JHU accepts update letters/LOI pre-interview? I can't find it on their website

Interviewed last week and don't know if this is helpful at all to people deciding but it seemed like such a genuinely community oriented environment with people truly passionate about patients/discovery/high quality clinical care!

II just now! This one really came as a surprise. I was complete 8/15 and the only dates that came up for me were 12/1 and 12/2.
