does minnesota use the choose your med school tool? apparently its up on amcas today but I dont see it

Do any currents students or anyone else have an idea on how many applicants typically are on the waitlist for MSTP/ how many actually get accepted? Are waitlisted applicants ranked? I'm assuming yes since they informed us that each applicant gets a "score". Thanks!

Does anybody know the timeline for background check stuff? Like when that should get sent out?

Same he
The wait is killing me😭 I hope jan interview ppl dont have to wait until may to hear back.
Same here. I was told during my interview that an email will be sent to the rest of us after February 15 to let us know whether admission decision will be made on a weekly or monthly basis. I still haven't heard anything though😞

Im trying not to read into it, but based on the past few years, most people who interview after december get waitlisted or rejected. Anyone have any idea how much of the class they have filled so far?

They touched on this during my interview, the admissions member said late January interviewers were the first to interview for the “spring”, said this was a good thing

I interviewed Feb 14th and they said the same thing about it being a 'good thing'...I just hope they were being forthright
I hope so too. I looked at last year thread and got worried. Did they say when applicants should expect to hear back?

Last year's thread will be different in terms of timeline because they were the last class with the old curriculum. This year took much longer in interviewing and accepting students based on pathway eligibility so they are working at a much slower and later capacity than recent years.

Dont know if this is a good thing or bad thing for us😅

Not exactly. I interviewed the day before the Feb 15th decisions went out for a lot of applicants, and during the Q&A portion of the interview, the dean of admissions didn't really give a clear answer as to when we would hear back. She made it sound like our timeline to hear back would depend on how many A's they sent out on Feb 15th??? She said we would get an email giving us a better estimation of a decision timeline after Feb 15th, but I still haven't received that email.

Edit: they literally JUST sent the email three minutes before I posted this lol.

The email says 'We will not issue any new acceptance offers until after May 1, 2023; waitlist and deny decisions will go out on a rolling basis starting next week.'

They just sent an email stating that no new acceptance offers will be made until after May 1st.

And waitlist and denied decisions will be made on a rolling basis starting next week.
+1. The email is worrisome. I interviewed middle of Jan and I’m in no way confident at this point

May 1st? Is this a typo -- everyone in the Spring really interviewed for a WL spot
I was thinking the same thing. It kinda sounds like the only acceptances left after May 1st would be for WL spots right?? Especially because a lot of students will be declining acceptances on April 30. Will we be notified of our position on the WL if that's the decision they make?

This was my thought...though the dean literally told our interview cohort that even as spring interviewees we were 'in a good spot'

Knowing that Minnesota has historically interviewed applicants for waitlist spots, I interpreted her words specifically as 'you're NOT interviewing for a waitlist spot'. But I guess that's just my interpretation

I interviewed in December and essentially interviewed for a waitlist spot... also, does anyone know historic number of students accepted off of the 250 person waitlist?

Im really upset. Having to wait until after May 1 is ridiculous. They need to change their system. Im lucky to have another A but I guess I have to wait to sign a lease until after May since TC is my top choice.

Why are they straight up lying to us when they say we are interviewing for a seat?

Don't know, congratulations on the A... Taints a really bad look on TC in my opinion. Don't know why they aren't transparent with it

I can't answer your question, rather, I just wanted to say how it now makes sense why the dean of admissions was so 'unsure' about decision timelines for us...she wanted to answer the question without explicitly telling us we were interviewing for a WL spot lol. We got clowned.

Doesn't a lot of students declining their As mean that there will immediately there will be more As to give out? Or am I understanding the admissions process completely wrong lol

Thank you! Yeah they made it seem like things would be different this year by having 2 big acceptance dates. Any current student know if there are a lot of students in the admitted facebook/groupme? I find it hard to believe they filled the entire class before the december interviews.

There are at least 1 or 2 DO schools that give an Acceptance Pending an Open Seat, which is basically acceptance except the school filled their seats earlier than expected. It's like an elite waitlist basically. Idk if that is what MN is doing kind of?

Hey all, current MS2 here. I am really sorry to hear about the situation for the December (and onward) interviewees. I was hopeful that the two decision dates would improve their processes and timeline, but it only seems to have made it worse (which I didn’t think was possible… it’s honestly a farce).

I really don’t have extra insight or anything else to offer except my sympathy. I was a December interviewee and I heard back in mid-March, so I understand the long and difficult wait. As always, my DMs are open if you have any questions (or just want to vent).

When you heard back, was it pretty much waiting to hear about WL? Wondering if this cycle will kind of default to the old ways.

I emailed them a few weeks ago and they said my app was still in the first round of review... does this mean I'm just waiting on an R at this point? I take it they are not doing more interviews?

Who was this email sent to? I got the WL on 2/15 and got no such email. The WL email I got said they would not revisit the WL until May, but now they’re saying they’ll start taking people off this week???

Yeah that’s what my WL email said too!

i'm really kinda upset rn. I interviewed in dec for a WL spot? i wish they would have been straight up with me because it would have helped me plan my next steps with some concrete plans. this is just honestly so messed up, please just be transparent i have other things in my life that revolve around these decisions.

so no one from 12/2 and beyond got A? It was all waitlist?

I believe they sent the email to all the people that interviewed December and later who did not receive decisions on 12/9 or 2/15. The email said that we’re in final review and they will release decisions for WL and R on a rolling basis starting next week. It also said no new A’s will be sent out till May like your WL email. So no they did not say they’re taking anyone off this week.

Oh I see now. Makes sense. This school is confusing

During my cycle, I was in the last group of interviewees (with other mid-late Dec) that were outright accepted before they autowaitlisted everyone. Essentially, they got through one fewer month of interviewees this year compared to previous years.

I was under the impression that the purpose of releasing decisions on two dates (at least in part) was to assess a larger pool of applicants, accept the highest scoring of them, and hold additional As for later, so as not to screw over later interviewees (literally they have not sent decisions to about half of you, and their As are gone???). Clearly this did not happen.

im still kind of shocked they were interviewing often enough to be able to fill the class without even getting to December interviewers. Its tough out here I am just going to take this as a soft R so I dont spend every day agonizing over it lol

I interviewed recently on February 21st and I was told that rejections and waitlist would go out on a rolling basis. Crystal Esparza further clarified that February would have to wait until they’re done with January’s interviews for the rolling basis. So January interviewees should keep an eye out! She gave a typical timeframe of 8-10 weeks for the February interviewees which would be about late April-early May.

She did give an April 30th date but then clarified that it would be May 1st for acceptances. So basically what I got from it is that if I didn’t hear back until after May 1st… then it’s a good thing. If I hear back earlier, that means a waitlist or a rejection. She also says that would mean a shorter timeframe to either accept or deny the A because of the deadline to accept. I wasn’t too fixated on that since the U is my dream school but just wanted to reiterate that for others!

I know that this is definitely a confusing time and I’m also very anxious to hear their decisions as well. I understand everyone’s frustrations… but I also think of it as it’s no longer in my hands and now it’s just a waiting game. In the meantime, self-care and enjoying the spring/summer would be the best route. I’m hoping we hear back soon!

Yeah I High key don’t like that because I can’t leverage my financial aid at the school versus other schools 🙁

The II i received yesterday didn’t indicate that it was for a WL position. Have they been indicating this at all?

No they haven’t indicated that we’re interviewing for waitlist positions. I see a lot of people saying that in the comments but I haven’t specifically heard anything from someone at the U that this is the case.
