2022-2023 UCLA (Geffen)

Is that 100% confirmed? I know you're a current student but the admissions timeline on the website says they interview from August-March so I just wanted to check.
Technically they can end it early if their class is filled 🙁

Per their site, referring to MD track:

But how can they know their class is filled? I would assume the majority of those accepted here have multiple A’s? Right? Or do they have limits on acceptances offered?
I assume that they accept more people than they have space for and then based on previous years' experiences they are able to ballpark what % of accepted people will attend. Besides, they also have people on waitlists so if they're happy with the class they formed so far, there is no reason as to why they would continue interviewing, as painful as it is to admit 🙁

Does anyone know how/why schools use financial information from the non custodial parents?
My parents are separated for many years and my non custodial parent does not support us in any way. It’s also hard to get into contact with said parent. However, ucla has a mandatory non custodial parent financial aide form, does anyone have any info on how they handle this? Specifically:
1. If I’m not able to access the information from the non custodial parent
2. How the income of that parent may affect me even if they contribute nothing to me

Thanks I’m advance.

You can ask for a waiver and they'll tell you what you need to be considered.

In case anyone is in the situation of needing this waiver form, this is what I needed to submit last year:
  • Typewritten personal statement which explains in detail the extenuating family circumstances that you believe your parent information should be waived
  • 2 additional signed letters from a friend or relative who has personal knowledge of your family circumstance. Person writing this statement must include name, address, phone #, relationship to student
  • Optional supporting documentation (legal documentation, police reports, medical records, death certificates, etc.)

You do not need to submit parental financial information to be eligible for federal Direct and Direct PLUS loans. You need parental financial information to be eligible for DGSOM-offered need-based scholarships and loans. You will also need both parental financial information to be eligible for Loans for Disadvantaged Students (LDS) program through the HRSA.

Thanks for the well written response, I appreciate it.
So providing the material required for exemption will still make me eligible for the dgsom offered aide?

is there any insight as to when january interviewers hear back? I've been looking at previous threads but what's the earliest someone could hear (guesstimates are fun too)

If the waiver is approved, then yes, you will be eligible for all UCLA-specific need-based aid offered. If you foresee yourself being in the situation of needing to submit a waiver, I highly recommend reaching out to the fin aid office -- they have always been beyond helpful and responsive to me.

Please note that the LDS program offered through the HRSA does NOT have a waiver or appeal process, so that is off the table unless you are (1) orphan/ward of the state or (2) parental passing.

Thanks! I did reach out and they were responsive indeed.

Just got accepted via email 😭😭😭 Not sure if I received a phone call or not since I am abroad and don't have my normal SIM card in my phone.

Interviewed on my 25th birthday in December. I literally almost didn't even apply here bc I thought I had no chance as an OOS student. 🥺🥺🥺
