2022-2023 UT Houston (McGovern)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
is there any way this hurts someone’s chances? for example, if a school like PLFSOM sees that an applicant interviewed at utsw/bcm, isn’t it possible they’d be more hesitant to extend prematch or match offers for yield protection?
I interviewed at utsw and bcm and got a prematch from plfsom today so anecdotally, no?

I would think it confirms that you are a desirable candidate: game on!

wasn't a problem for me, received prematches from utsw and plfsom 🙂

Lower ranked schools dont lose much in interviewing a high stats student, admitting them and then losing them during match. They are playing the lottery for high stat students hoping some of them will end up with them if they miss out on BCMs and UTSWs and other higher ranked schools in Texas. The thing I am curious about is whether some of the schools are skipping some students when they get interviews at other schools.

skipping students during the match? or not interviewing them at all?

Honestly just based on this thread it seems like probably not, or if there were any the number was minuscule enough to not have any SDN users post about it. IMO there will be another wave later with offers for september/october interviewees.
I vowed to stay off SDN for a little while, but couldn't resist some late-night reading.

I also see that almost all SDN-reported prematches were for August interviewees (unable to confirm @megladoc ). Keep hope alive! September folks up next wave, I hope! Let's speak some positivity into the applisphere™, shall we!

I'm new to SDN so I didn't know if I could quote both of y'all... either way the question was definitely geared towards you as well. CONGRATS! It definitely gives me a lot of hope. Looking forward to sharing the same feeling hopefully soon 🙂 fingers crossed

510, 3.81/3.72, ORM, good ec’s and essays imo , 2nd Quartile Casper

Edit: I wanna note that I had zero real research experience, which was something that I stressed over a whole lot
I don't have research either. I honestly think the importance of research is overblown, at least for most TX schools.

When were you complete?

Congratulations to everyone who has received an interview invite today!!!!

I was also curious if anyone who interviewed in September received any prematch offers. As far as I know, they have only sent pre-match offers to August interviewers. However, it is certainly possible that all of us who interviewed in September on this thread simply didn't pre-match. Ultimately, I was just curious if anyone thinks they already sent September pre-matches out.

I heard from one September interviewee who prematched. They didn’t share the news on the public thread

Congrats to all those that got II today.

Does anyone know based on prior years whether they will send more II?

10/28, 11/11, and I believe 11/16 and 11/18.

These are the current interview dates that are open. It means they still have slots for December and January.

For the faculty panel tonight is everyone going? It says that it has no bearing on admissions but I kinda have my reservations about that

I am! But I don't mind if it has any bearing on admissions I'm just so pumped about this school lol

I plan on going. We won't even have our videos on so it seems super relaxed. I'll probably just log in on my phone while I cook dinner and listen to what people have to say

I love this program too but I’d have to call off work to go to this and I’ve already done that a lot for my interviews and first looks

I highly doubt it would have any affect on admissions if they explicitly said that. I mean it's even bolded in the email.

Ohhh I see. Yeah if I had work, I wouldn't go but since I'm off I might as well. I genuinely believe this has zero impact on admissions, so I wouldn't beat yourself up about going. They also stated they will have more of these sessions planned in the future.

The schools are not going to lie to you. I am amused that we seem convinced sentences suddenly mean the opposite of what they normally mean.

If you are concerned, then email admissions and say you’d love to attend the next info session because McGovern is a top choice, but can’t make this one due to work commitments.

I think some of us are just anxious, we haven't had as much success as someone like you!

There is nothing inherently different about me vs. anyone else.

And you're right, I would behave erratically if I had been ghosted everywhere I applied until now. I should be less mean.

I wouldn't call the original person's behavior erratic lol. That's a little insensitive. It was an honest question

Sorry, to clarify I was not referring to the original person. I was referring to myself, that if I had been ghosted, my behavior would probably become not typical/erratic, relative to my normal behavior.

Edit: Rereading my original message, I see that I put "also" which does imply that I am referring to the previous poster. I removed it, I am sorry.

I was just trying to give you props haha. You've had a great cycle.

As a current reapplicant, even tho I've been through the process I can't help but be neurotic myself at times!
