What does "service" mean in Pillar 4? If it's volunteering, wouldn't it go under the ECs in pillar 3? Sorry I'm not completely understanding how this works
It seems to be listed under both 3 and 4. 3 says community service and 4 says just service. I assume the one under 4 they are looking at some value metric since they are trying to measure empathy, humanism and service and also interview.

Pillar 1 - Academics
Pillar 2 - region
Pillar 3 - minority, low SES, disadvantaged, ECs, leadership
Pillar 4 - ratings on service and interview together

If you assume people in the region get 25 points and everyone else gets zero out of 100 I can't imagine a lot of people outside of region making up the difference.
I think people from adjacent counties might get like 12.5 points? Who knows this is just pure conjecture, but I agree with you it seems very difficult for people outside the region to make up points.

Good point. I went to school in an adjacent county but i don’t live there, so i’ll probably get some points but not many.

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. The only other people I met outside ETX were very close to ETX

Hm. If they've already interviewed or scheduled ~120 and they said they'd interview 120-150 then I'd assume they probably will finish up with IIs by the end of the month or maybe into next if they want more

The admissions committee can only see what academic quartile you are in for Pillar 1, right? Not your specific scores? Also, does the admissions decision simply boil down to who has the most points? Because it's a tough hill to climb for non-ETX ORM's.

Regardless, I'm super impressed that UTT is going about this in such a holistic way.

I think that kinda may be the point? They're focusing on ETX, underserved, URM students. If the point based system is true it makes sense that someone who doesn't meet that criteria will have to compensate in other areas of their app

They said today in a panel at UTT career success conference that they’re having a big meeting tonight to vote on some potential candidates, so fingers crossed!!
ooo i’m going to the afternoon panel so i’ll see if they say the same

I so wish they'd send out early prematches. I know they won't, but my anxiety is killing me
THIS. lol. UTT is my top choice and the only school I have interviewed at that is waiting until December. The wait may kill me haha.

Yep, they basically confirmed that they're deciding on yes's and no's for the first few rounds of interviews tonight but that they could make some changes between now and december 🙂

Everything else was pretty similar to the AMSA talk but we talked a lot about the IPE portion of their curriculum which will be fun since we have a pharm and nursing school here!

I take that as we are not hearing back early 🙁

They did tell me that they will still not be informing us until december!

They will interview until January correct? I mean they even extended their Casper deadline so there is no way they will fill the class soo soon.

Everyone is interviewing thru January. The fact that they are announcing prematch in December does not make it a full class since they would probably hold some spots for the match.

Yep, and I doubt that EVERYONE who interviewed will find out in December. The Sept/Oct dates may hear back first, then the later dates. This isn't per them, just speculation!!

People are reading prematch as if the class is full. UTT is following the same process as other schools announcing some admissions in December since they are unable to do them in October like most other schools. Baylor will probably towards the end of November too but none of the schools announcing prematches will stop their interview schedule saying they are full and do not need to interview anymore.

Just got off the phone with Ms Amanda. She said for pre matches in December they don’t have the date yet. Also to be eligible for pre match in December if your interview was finished anytime before the week of announcements, you could possibly prematch. Also there are still interviews available in November, December, and January.
When I got my II a couple weeks ago the only dates open were in December, so the fact that there are November dates available makes me think people are cancelling after receiving prematch offers from other schools 🙂

Possible. It is a good thing if people who have no intention of going to UTT if they get in elsewhere give opportunity to others who are seriously interested.

I'm sure this may be obvious for some, but maybe not others. If you are waiting on II after submitting your 2°, make sure your CASPer and Duet are showing as received (Green ✔ 's).

Just to clarify, UTT is just covering tuition right? The total cost of attendance will still include things like housing and insurance, so we would still be responsible for paying those things?
yes the support is for tuition. Living expenses will be your responsibility

yes but they said they plan on having some scholarships to cover cost of living

All schools allocate some money for scholarships. Since UTT has tuition already covered for everyone, they should have some money for need based room and board. Expect some for people who might have received Pell grants for undergrad.

After Tuition, it should be about another 18K a year for the rest of the expenses, they will need about 2.88Million to cover the full class for 4 years.

the good thing is, cost of living here is very cheap. i rent a 3 BR house with a big yard with a friend and after rent & bills come out under $850. gas prices stay pretty low compared to places like dallas/austin. the only thing is that the campus is a bit away from Tyler itself so if you’re in south Tyler it’s a 30 min drive, but the more north you get, the cheaper houses/rent are anyways!

wow, that is cheap. In Houston each of you will be spending 1k for rent even for most shared condos or homes.

30 minute drives are not the best for such a small place.

South Tyler is safer tho ?

If you are referring to crime, Tyler does not really have much of it, but yes South Tyler is the safer but also more expensive area to live. The area that the UTTSOM campus is at though is like, past north tyler? like, nothing happens out there because there is nothing out there
Yeah the people I talked with on interview day say most people don't live near the health science center. As you said, there isn't very much there.
