2023-2024 Central Michigan

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is an appeal to applicants who have taken Casper for admission to Central Michigan University SOM.

Complete the 2023 Situational Judgment Test Experience survey.

HPSA/SDN has the 2023 SJT Experience Survey available to anyone preparing for SJTs (especially Casper and PREview). If you completed the 2022 survey, you are welcome to go ahead and complete the survey again. This survey consists of multiple pages and will take up to 10 minutes. You can also place yourself on a waitlist for a study focusing more on school-run SJTs run through platforms like Kira Talent, to be released later in the year.

Your feedback matters!
We learned a lot about how applicants prepared for Casper and PREview last year, but the number of PREview schools has almost doubled this cycle! Over 20% of all AMCAS applicants will likely have taken PREview, and up to 90% of all medical school applicants will likely have taken Casper this cycle (according to Acuity Insights). This does not include applicants in non-medical professions who have had to take these assessments for admission to physician assistant, anesthesiology assistant, dental, veterinary, pharmacy, or physical therapy programs, where we see a trend that applicants with higher Casper results are preferred. Medical residency applicants are also being asked to complete Acuity Insights Assessments, and very little is known about how program directors use these data. Your responses are vital to get objective insights on how admissions committees value the results of these exams.

Your feedback matters!
We want to hear from as many people as possible, especially those attending or applying outside of medicine (MD/DO). This year saw an expansion of SJTs in admissions, and more information has been made available on preparing for these assessments. We want to stay current with these trends to guide future applicants and students facing these SJTs.

Many of our findings from the 2022 survey align with the NAAHP Testing Task Force report released last summer. This includes concerns about proctoring, consistency of scoring, and concern that applicants are paying for validity research. But we need more student voices to gain a louder voice to advocate for future health professional school applicants.

Your feedback has helped HPSA develop a workshop focused on preparing for SJTs like Casper and PREview. This workshop is part of our Becoming a Student Doctor preparation course, and we have already had some positive results among those who have participated in our mock interview workshops. An updated workshop will be presented at the UC Davis Prehealth Conference on October 14, and we welcome opportunities to present the full-length SJT workshop to your campus!

Fill out this survey and help future applicants become physicians in their chosen profession!

What is a rough timeframe to hear back after interview. I remember they said something about 6 weeks but don’t remember for certain.

Anyone wanna drop their last minute CMU II advice? How should we be prepared for the group interview?

I'm wondering the same thing. I've applied previously and never got that email, just the rejection come spring.
Here's hoping that you will get an II this cycle. Everyone tells me it's not over until March. So hang in there friend!!!!

Interviewed today and I was told that some (very rarely) hear back in two weeks and most in 6-8 weeks, though it may take a few months to hear back. They also said there was no ghosting, so we should hear back eventually for an A, WL, or R.

Had my interview last week and jotted down some info for those still waiting.
They are expecting 14 total interview dates and the 7th of 14 was 11/10. They start in October and will interview all the way until March. There will be no waitlist movement until after April 30th. They are projecting to interview roughly 500 or so applicants for 104 spots.
Hope that helps.

They have been quiet right? I’ve only seen one wave of decisions so far, or is it just no one is posting?

I got an email yesterday inviting me to RTM: All-Access event in person, does anyone know if this is a good sign? I can't find any info about it besides what they've sent me and it's not even on the RTM schedule post II, wondering if it went out to all postII like RTM ot different group of people - interviewed 10/6 still waiting to hear

it goes to everyone who interviewed
hmmm, why do you think they didn't talk about it during the RTM zoom last night? just seemed like maybe it was in a different category since it wasn't listed in the normal RTM module in the portal

My conspiracy theory mind is telling me that they want to see who is really interested in the school so they kept it lowkey and in-person lol

Interviewed 10/6 and I received it as well. I was a bit confused as I recall admissions stating it was only open to people who had received an acceptance due to limited space

thats what i was curious about!!! did i miss a life changing email or something!! when did you hear them say this?

What are people's opinion about this in-person event? It seems very informative and given the agenda, looks to be a fairly major event. But its quite the time commitment during a busy season for work for me.
I'm taking it as "good if you go, won't hurt your chances if you don't go?"

I think that probably sums it up. I’m just really curious about whether it went to everyone who interviewed or not. I am almost sure the head of admissions stated that only accepted students could be accommodated due to limited space. However, as at least a few of us who interviewed are seeing, the invite came to us without a decision. I’m usually cautious in my optimism, but would they really send out an invite to people who interviewed to come tour their campus, especially those who are out of state, if they weren’t seriously considering them for acceptance? I wish I had more information as that would help inform my decision whether I choose to go or not.

This is exactly how I am, I don't wan to get excited or anything but are they really going to invite me to campus and show me around, pay for my lunch and let me meet student and faculty, then throw me on the waitlist or reject me? It just seems weird to send out to someone who hasn't heard yet... wondering if they're finalizing another list of decisions and the people who are getting As got this email as well to allow them time to sign up without spots getting filled

Fantastic interview experience. I was particularly nervous as it was my first ever - everyone was welcoming and truly wanted to hold meaningful conversations. The group interview was equally enjoyable! I am biased to how awesome you are 😉

Best of luck everyone!

Do you feel like the interview ended abruptly?

Yeah, other schools had a debrief or time for questions but CMU was "thanks, off ya go." Not good or bad imo, just different.
My interview day had an optional Q&A two hours after the interview? So you were able to ask questions.

Mine did too. Perhaps it was so they could group all of the other interview sessions that day together in one big Q&A sesh. Personally, I didn't mind the abrupt ending and I didn't have further questions but I can see how others may have felt the lack of debrief was abrupt.

Is that an all applicants email or i should feel there is hope? When is the November/December Interview if anyone got?
"Thank you for your continued interest in the Central Michigan University College of Medicine. We are currenly in the process of reviewing all secondary applications. While the review process continues, we did want to let you know, that your application is still under consideration."

I didn’t get this email because I’ve interviewed, but I know they extend interview invites all the way into March, so I wouldn’t lose hope!

It just means they haven’t looked at you yet. No rejection or II but it’s still possible til march. Everyone who hasn’t had II or R gets this email and they send one once a month
