Can I talk about shadowing a geriatrician for the primary care prompt?
As a general rule shadowing is not the best example for any of the questions since it gives the impression you just followed someone around.

They are looking for you to have done something with the patients when they ask you these questions. Have you worked with elderly patients during your shadowing?

Not during shadowing, but I have worked with elderly patients. I meant to ask if my experience with elderly patients would count under primary care.

Most internal medicine doctors treat elderly patients. I dont know of them actually referring patients to geriatry specialists automatically but in most cases they refer them to other types of specialists like cardiologists and pulmonologists.

Google says geriatricians are primary care doctors with additional training. :)

The doctor you shadowed most likely did residency in IM.

When did interview invites get sent out for UHCOM last year/when can we expect them this year? Also, is there a way to access data for applicants who received prematch acceptances here?

1. Last year the first interview invitations were sent in early August
2. Past dates are not a guarantee & we don't know if it will be the same this year
3. Prematch offer student data stats are not compiled anywhere.
Remember that a school MAY send out prematch offers as early as October 15, but they don't HAVE TO. Last year U of H Fertitta didn't send any prematch offers until December 23.

So I've shadowed an OBGYN and psychiatrist, but was never able to shadow primary care (tried multiple times but they weren't allowing students).
So do I just answer NO to the first question?

OB is primary care
Is psychiatry also primary care? I was on a website for another school recently and they categorized it as primary care.. but I’ve never seen that before 😳

University of Houston residency programs are supporting internal medicine, surgery, family medicine and ob/gyn.

A large city like Houston requires a lot of mental health doctors but I can't say if it is part of UH mission.

Medical school, here they come! Our pre-matriculation program for the incoming Class of 2027 gave students the opportunity to come to campus, meet other students, learn from faculty and staff and get an overall introduction to #MedSchool.

See you at orientation, Coogs!

LM 70. Have worked as an MA in Sports Medicine for about a year, and worked with PT/OT to develop strength/flexibility program for local HS athletes, so lots of clinical hours. Volunteered with old coach to provide free baseball clinics for underprivileged youth in my hometown as well.

LM 70 as well. 4 years of research, around ~300 clinical hours (Hospital volunteering, patient screener), ~600 non-clinical hours. Still volunteering in different settings. I am a reapplicant as well.

70 is not considered high. The people invited seem to fit the mission of UH based on their additional info.

Then what is the avg LM? I feel that my application fits UH's mission as well but I haven't heard back from them yet, so I figured they were starting with higher stat people

Applicants in Texas can go to LMs upto 82 which is the reason for saying 70 is not high.

UH does not go for high stats specifically since they are looking for students who are interested in primary care. The interview invited candidates credentials in terms of ECs reflect that.

Makes sense, thank you!

II a couple of days ago! I wanted to ask if others who have received invites saw the information for the zoom meeting? They said it should pop up on the portal but I dont see anything and the interview is in a week and a half. Anyone know anything about this?

It will pop up in time. I recommend looking up assigned the faculty interviewers before as it adds some familiarity.

I am under the impression that it will be scenario based MMI. There isn’t a lot of information online. Would love a previous year interviewee to maybe chime in on this.

Yes it’s several MMI stations and one break station. Theyre pretty hard on the time limit for each. Casper is great practice.

Does this school not have an interview feedback page?

Interviewed today, the interviewers were really friendly and the virtual interview went smoothly with no issues for me! Good luck to everyone else interviewing.

Does this school accept updates or letters of intent?

Does anyone know the class size that they'll accept this year? Just not sure if I should go by the graduation year or entering year on the website.

Anyone emailed to submit proof for a secondary waiver? It’s going on a week for me and I haven’t heard back yet about it
