I think I got accepted into the mph program? They asked me to select a modality of learning but I didn’t get an II from downstate. Does this mean I’ll get an II or is this totally different?

did anyone hear back from their dual degree program acceptance ?

Yeah got the same email too and I have no clue what it means

Reminds me of college admissions when I got my “please confirm your scholarship” letter before I got the admissions email hahahah

Hopefully this means we both got at least interviews?

MPH and MD are two completely separate processes that don't really communicate with each other aside from giving them your application info. you may get an acceptance for the MPH and got a rejection from MD, i dont think it means we are guaranteed an II

I have not gotten any continued interest emails. Is this a good kr bad sign? I interviewed in first week of dec.

Anyone know what are the chances that the continued interview interest email would lead to us getting an interview?

anyone think it's worth sending a letter of intent now or best to wait until we hear back about A, R, or waitlist? I've read different opinions about whether or not to send them before you've had any decisions made or not (I interviewed in late November and fully intend to attend if accepted)

I am just waiting for now since I’m suspecting next “big batch” will be around Valentine’s Day based on what I’ve heard from virtual chat/interview. I’d probs reach out March if still no news this month.

I am also waiting until around end of march to see if I hear back in feb from the big wave

Oh also preclinical is pass fail which is also great
Does anyone know if the preclerkship p/f is ranked or unranked? Current students I’ve asked were unsure, but MSAR says “students ranked for residency application”, which I’m interpreting as ONLY the clerkships are ranked but not preclerkship.

I’ve heard preclinical is pure P/F with no internal ranking from students. Rotations are honor/p/f system which idk is ranked.

Does anyone know if I can upload an additional letter of rec prior to my interview?

What do you think sets SUNY Downstate apart from other SUNYs that are ranked higher? It seems like Downstate matches with some great schools despite being unranked so do you think the curriculum or other factors contribute to the success of the students? Are you guys given any resources like UWorld for studying for STEP or shelf exams? Are there opportunities for shadowing or getting published in MS1 if you're interested in competitive specialties? What's it like going to school in NYC, do you have any regrets?
Downstate isn't ranked because it doesn't participate in rankings. Penn state (and others?) do not either. Nothing to do with the quality of the school. I think reputation-wise, downstate would be somewhere in the top 50-75. Its reputation in NYC in particular is quite good.

OOS II on 1/19. Anyone else have a super late interview date (late Feb)? Worried that all the A's are already rolling out and spots taken 😢

As far as I can tell only a handful of people received As so I wouldn’t be too worried about that yet.

this might be a neurotic question, but did everyone who attended the in person tour of Downstate dress up? Business casual?

mine was very casual. I and some others wore slightly business casual attire but a lot of people were very casual. you're pretty much with current students the majority of the time

Oh I had a nightmare cycle. Interviewed in Feb, alternate list in April, A end of May. That timeline is the main reason I deferred and honestly best decision I’ve made for my mental health.
hey quick question! So I interviewed in early Jan and would like to send a letter of intent now before decisions come out. However, do you think it is a good idea to wait until decisions come out and if I am waitlisted, to send in the letter of intent then? What would you recommend? Thanks again!

Preclinical is p/f but there is some kind of award they give out if you are top 5% of the class or something like that. I wouldn’t know exactly because it doesn’t apply to me LOL. But I think it’s a good way to recognize people who do extraordinary well without hurting others

Congratulations to everyone that got accepted! Does anyone know if there’s still a chance that early September interviewees will get accepted with the next batch of applicants in February or is it a bad sign that I didn’t hear back? Thanks in advance.

yes! it seems they only released a small initial batch of As and the rest will hear back in mid feb so around next week!

Just received the invite to tour last week and interviewed in December. Is it a good sign to receive this invite or do all interviewees receive it?

In state II just now. Anyone have a good source of info on this school? Have already put down a deposit at a different MD school (T30), so want to do some research but their website is pretty sparse.

A wuick google search would provide you with lots of info. I think the best thing about this school is that its placed in NYC, lots of opportunities to do research. Im sure you can maybe even reach out to MDs from other big hospitals/schools and ask to be part of their projects (i.e sinai or columbia or cornell etc). Their matching rates are also good, this school is well known.

Probably a long shot but does anyone have any more insight into when they may be releasing more decisions? Are we thinking later this week?
