Does UCSD accept update letters? The email was a little convoluted and there are no actual directions on the app portal. "In the application portal, you will see a tab for "Document Upload" - There is information there that details what types of updates we will consider for the 2023-2024 application cycle. Your careful attention to those details is appreciated."

Unless the portal changed from last cycle, it says they do not take update letters (or letters of interest or intent) unless you are waitlisted and they will contact you in late April when you are permitted to submit updates. The document upload is currently for explaining extenuating circumstances re: MCAT, as it was explained in that section (again, assuming that they didn't change the portal).

Does anyone know when the first round//earliest interviews are being conducted?

Does anyone know if there’s a directory of students willing to be contacted by prospective students with questions? Or anyone on here who is a current student? 🙂 I have an interview coming up and would like to chat with a student about the school

advice: i am from the area UCSD is located in and i do not believe the optional essay applies to me, or even the community i identify with... however i feel that because it is optional, it really is recommended/required to fill out

will this look bad against my application if i don't do the essay? did anyone not complete the optional essay?

I didn't and got an II. If it's NA then don't force it

Does anyone know if the UCSD interviews are open or closed file?

UCSD uses MMI (open/closed file designation doesn't really apply) so your interviewers will be judging you based off how you answer the MMI prompt!

Sorry, this may be a stupid question, but I'm not too familiar with the different interview types. For questions about the interviewee as a person, such as past experience, would you assume they've read your application, or give ample background?

UCSD's MMIs are closed-file! I made sure to give relevant (though brief) background context for any examples I provided.

Looks like someone else said they were closed-file but either way would recommend for MMI you give some background, I like to view each MMI interaction as its own bubble.

Does anyone know if UCSD is still sending secondaries? Or if we should give it up at this point 🤣
I am wondering the same thing. I was looking at previous years and it looks like they only sent them in September. Also, when I applied 2 cycles ago, I got the rejection in Nov. 😢

Do yall think it would be wise to prepare for a “Why UCSD” question even though it’s MMI?

for the most meaningful experience on the application portal, is this additional activities on our AMCAS application that we can designate? it says not on amcas at the top so im confused!

I would interpret as this writing more about an activity that you didn't already write one of your 3 most meaningful essays about on your AMCAS primary. It could be an activity that is on your AMCAS primary, or one that you couldn't put on AMCAS because you hit your limit of 15 activities. You only get 100 words. oops 100 characters

When UCSD says you have 1 month to write a secondary, what is the cutoff time on the day 1-month later?
