2025-2026 The Ohio State Secondary Essay Prompts:

1. The mission statement of The Ohio State University College of Medicine is to "improve people's lives" through innovation in research, medical education, and patient care. Please describe how your past experiences predict your potential to contribute in two of these three areas. (250 words)

2. Provide examples of factors contributing to health inequities that exist in the United States. (250 words)

3. Please indicate any affiliations with Ohio or Ohio State University that would not otherwise be apparent from your application. (unsure of word count)

4. Complete this section only if you are a reapplicant. Please list any medical schools you have previously applied to (up to 25): School and Year of Application.

Good luck to all applying!

Anyone know if people who have applied to medical school in the past but not to Ohio State are supposed to list previous applications? They say only re-applicants should fill out that section, but don't define what a re-applicant is so I wasn't sure (and feel a little weird about the idea of giving them my old school list). Also anyone figured out how to find their selective service number? Tried the government phone and website system for doing it and both are broken 🙁

they have maintenance today lol

can you copy and paste them please
Watch out for apostrophes converting into question marks when copy-pasting your essays. I'd save your application and return to it after 5 mins to make sure there aren't weird formatting issues.

@wysdoc

FYI for anyone interested in the 3 yr Family Medicine track or Community medicine track, I was browsing the program info for that, and found out that you are supposed to submit an interest form for either track *before* submitting your secondary, because they send you a different app, and you are considered separately from the standard Ohio Secondary? Anyway, I submitted the form and did get an e-mail in response that I would be receiving a different app in 5-7 business days. Not sure if anyone else has gone through this process already and can confirm

can you send the exact language again? i'm going to share my thoughts below based on the current language i see:

my personal opinion is that there is no need to mention you are a re-applicant if you don't absolutely have to. in this case, the wording and context makes me think they are asking if you are a re-applicant to their school. otherwise i would expect language along the lines of "please fill this out if you are a re-applicant to ANY medical school". so if you have not applied to ohio state before, i'd probably leave the section blank.

if you feel weird about leaving it blank, i could also see an argument for only listing like 10 schools that you applied to previously (ideally schools around the same caliber as ohio state), and calling it a day.

Is anyone having problems getting their selective service number? The website and hotline are both down so I am truly stuck.

reading this again makes me think they define re-applicant as having applied to any medical school in the past. however, i still don't dislike the idea of only including part of your previous school list instead of divulging the whole thing. why should we entertain the ohio state adcoms' insecurities and jealousy? 😂😂

Hi! I was verified mid-June and have yet to receive an OOS secondary. Just curious if anyone else is experiencing the same thing? Not sure if they just hand out secondaries in slower waves?

Yep, I've made sure to check during business hours and it is down with no public statements as to when it will be back up.

Im in state and its my undergrad institution. Havent gotten it yet and im so worried.

Anyone else not get a secondary from here yet? Im lowkey getting worried now
As mentioned the first time you asked this, they do this in waves. This school, as well as pretty much all others, send secondaries into July and even August because it is not possible to send it to all applicants at once.

Anyone know an alternate way to find my selective service number? Just waiting on the government page to come back up but it looks like it’s been over a week…. Feels bad waiting on that when I have everything else ready

Can't access mine either. If it isn't back up this week I'm gonna email admissions. Sucks that it's pushing back our complete dates.

My primary app was verified before June 27th and I just got the secondary today

Does anyone have insight on whether the community track is more competitive than the regular track? Main goal is to get in OSU so I don’t want to limit my chances if it is more competitive. TIA!

Yo does anyone have any input for that licensure question? We get that after residency but our program also "leads to licensure".

did some research and most people say to put the state in which you intend on practicing

Did anyone ever find out if you have to fill out the re-applicant portion only if you applied to Ohio State last year? Or do you have to fill it out if you applied to any MD programs?

I remember a section of the secondary saying that if you are reapplicant for other schools to type the school name and year you applied.

Anyone still waiting on the secondary? Decided to apply here later in the cycle so its expected I'll get it a bit late tho
