Just wondering if anyone has heard any decisions from Loma Linda University about yea or nay on their admissions. I seem to recall from my interview on the 23rd of November that they would be starting admissions decisions in December, but I may be misremembering.

If anyone has heard anything, I'd love to know, good or bad. And I'd be happy to say a pray for you/with you if you have not yet heard and are suffering anxiety as a result.

I wish you all the best of luck. Please wish me the same!

God bless you all,
DS

I know that Jesus applied but they said that his hair and beard were too long and not in tune with good christian values

Nice, the ignore list does work wonders.

DS, from what I know, adcom usually meets in the middle of the month (pretty close to the 15th), and Dr Nyirady makes the call on Fridays. So the earliest is this Friday, if not, it would probably be the 19th. I'm hoping to hear from them too!

Good luck!

Good luck to those who've had an interview! For those who haven't has anybody heard of many interview invites going out yet to non-SDAs? I'm dying checking my mail every day for an envelope, but still no luck. I've been complete since Sept. I'm really, really hoping for an interview, but I'm thinking I may not see anything in the mail until Jan/Feb from what I've read. Any ideas? Thanks!

Non-SDAs started getting invites in mid-Nov. Good luck.

Does the interview invite come via snail mail?

I'll say a prayer for you then. I hope you get a fair chance to wow them.

As for you, Alam:

Thanks a bunch for the info! Kinda makes sense that they'd let us know on Fridays so we could spend Sabbath with God and His Son. I certainly hope my beard and long hair didn't bar me from admission, although Jesus did say that if He was persecuted, being righteous, how much more will we who are wicked be persecuted for His sake? If Jesus would be denied for having a Levitican beard and long hair, then I suppose I should expect the same.

Therefore, please pray for me all the more! I need the boost, apparently.

DS

P.S. Since I know admissions committees scan SDN from time to time, I would again invite you to ask questions about my decision to have a beard and long hair, or anything else that is "odd" at face value. I've read a lot about it and heard a few very interesting sermons on the subject of beards and hair at www.blueletterbible.org that I'd love to discuss with you.

DS, I remember you from that day. I sat across from you on the other side of the room, during Dr. Hadley's interviews. I wouldn't be too worried about it, but will still pray for you. Good luck! Hopefully we'll hear something tomorrow!

Maybe this is a stupid question, but what is SDA?

Hey everyone! Loma Linda is one of my first choice schools, do any of you know how long they offer interview invites for? If we haven't gotten an invite yet can we hold out hope into March?

Hello,
If you look on the interview feedback page, there is feedback from interviews in March and April (although I don't know how likely it is). I don't see how they could be done sending out invites yet, it just seems so early, although some people seem to think it feels late. I'm still holding out hope, but trying to be realistic... I guess I'll just see what God has in store for me!

@DrJD.
I'm non-SDA and I got an invite on December 31st in the mail. When I called them on the phone, they said that there were only 3 interview dates that I could choose from (2 in February, 1 in March). Hope this helps.

By the way, from the 2009-2010 MSAR, I can see that they interview ~400 for a matriculated class size of about 170. What about the number of acceptances that were given out? Anybody know the post-interview acceptance rate?

My status was recently updated to say "The admissions committee will make a decision on your application by April 30th." Is that their equivalent of putting me on hold prior to interview? i.e. if they have enough interview cancellations I might get one?

My online status page says that too, but I was recently offered an interview at LLU so it might not be a pre-interview hold at all.

Hey did anyone happen to find out when Loma Linda will start handing out acceptances? I interviewed 1/08

They started with the acceptances in the middle of last month.

Cyanide - when was your page updated to that status and when/how much later were you offered the interview?

I just noticed mine was updated to the 'decision by April 30th' status as well... and have been really hoping to hear back from Loma Linda - they have such a great GIS (geographic information systems) program!!

Anyone else out there do GIS or excited about this opportunity? I am a GIS Specialist in my current job and do it for medical part-time research and volunteering as well.... really hope more schools adopt this technology as it is useful for more than just public health and making maps.

BTW - I am OOS, Non-SDA, Non-Christian

I got the update to that status on January 1st via an email "LLU School of Medicine will decide on your application for admission by April 30." However, I received my interview invite in the mail on January 5th (the postmark date was December 31st though..so it took awhile to get to me due to the holiday). I'm in state, non-SDA (Christian though).

3.5 weeks, but I know people who have interviewed in november and still not heard back yet.

Make sure they have all your stuff first. I had all my stuff in by Dec the year I got accepted. I hadnt heard anything by march and gave them a call. It turned out that although when i signed on to the secondary application it said completed, they actually didnt have it. They reset it and i redid the secondary. I then got my interview beginning of may before there Mid may meeting and accepted end of May. There were a couple other people interviewing then also.

How much does Loma Linda cost compared to a public medical school?
Cause I would like to go there too someday.

LLU costs around $55K /year (which includes $15K for living expenses). So technically the tutition is about $38K /year. So its definitely not cheap, and it helps if you have a scholarship. Public medical schools will always be cheaper than private medical schools. Personally though, I think the benefits at LLU outweigh any higher costs that I'm paying. In the end, its better to be really happy than sorta happy and saving a little more money.

Interviewed in November here... still waiting (((and hoping)))! My app also gives an April 30 decision date, but I just think that is standard. I was told by my interviewer that, since I am in grad school and won't be done until May 2009, I may not even hear a decision until mid-summer after they get my last semester's transcripts/grades. Although I am praying for an earlier "WELCOME!" :)

Wait, are you saying that Loma Linda doesn't hand out acceptances until you're done with school? What about all the people that are finishing their last semester?

They do hand out acceptances before you're done with school.

Well today is 3.57 weeks (25 days) and still no news!

Is the 3.5 weeks number arbitrary based on the applicants on SDN, or did they actually tell you it would be 3.5 weeks?

No, thats just how long it took for my decision to come back.

And am I correct in my thinking that Loma Linda lets you know via phone?

The Dean of admissions, Dr. Nyirady, gives a courtesy call to inform the applicants that they have been accepted before they receive their acceptance letters by snail mail.

In terms of when he might call, of recent years, it's been on the Friday before or after the 15th. For Dec, we got the call on the 19th. Jan acceptances were on the 16th. For Feb, it can be on the 13th or 20th. Of course, this is just speculation... good luck!!

Hey thanks for the info. So if I interviewed on January 8, I could expect a call possibly this Friday (Feb. 6) or next Friday (Feb. 13)?

Hi Guys,

I too applied to Loma Linda in September and have not been offered an interview. I did get invited to an Open House Reception this Sunday and am planning to attend but I don't want to waste my time going if I'm going to be rejected shortly (I've been accepted to other med schools but I would LOVE to be at LLU). Did anyone else get invited to this reception or do they know anything about it? I did tour the school last year so they may have invited me because of that... Any thoughts? Should I go?

Also, has anyone been rejected from LLU? I have realized that some schools wait to the end to send out rejections so just because I haven't heard anything doesn't mean I may still be in the running...

Thanks and best of luck to everyone!

P.S. I am non-SDA, In State, Non-Christian

There is the possibility of hearing back on those dates, but it is also possible that you may not. Not getting a call does not mean you have been rejected though. I know of situations in which applicants interviewed in November and didn't get accepted till March. Typically, I would guess the adcom reviews the new interviewees since the last acceptance and the old ones and weighs in which applicants are more suited for the school.

The latest acceptance at LLU that I know of was in July, two weeks before school started. The applicant was on waitlist and a slot opened up, so he got in.

Oops, just noticed that you changed my dates. I said Feb 13th and 20th, not the 6th... (though I could be wrong.) Just that the trend is the acceptance calls have been closer to the 15th of the that month.

Well if that is the case then I hope they call me this coming Friday! Or at least shortly thereafter.

Ok I finished my secondary a long time ago probably in early november. But I havent received anything yet and when I check my application it says they will decide on my application by april 30, so I dont know what that means

Honestly, what are the chances of me getting an interview that late?

It is hard to assess anyone's specific chances of an interview/acceptance. I honestly wouldn't stress about it though: LLU conducts interviews and admissions all the way up to summer. Just pray about it and trust in God... I know that may sound like just empty words, but in all sincerity that is all you can do. I will be praying for you also. I am also playing the waiting game right now, so I can relate.

My interviewer told me that they probably were not going to make a decision on my application specifically until I have completed my graduate degree in May. He said that I may hear something sooner, but probably not. Most regular applicants find out within 1-2 months however.

how long did it take to get interviews? i have been complete since back in late oct...
