I am in an extremely luck position to be able to have a choice in schools but am having trouble knowing where to go.

I honestly loved both schools at jnterview day and am so honored to have been accepted to both.

Here is what I have thought about for each school:

UCI
Pros:
Matches at very competitive institutions
More cost effective (I am in state)
Strong in research
Cons:
I have known it for 4 years already for undergrad (does this make me a less diverse applicant for residency?)
Ready to branch out, live in a new area

Tulane
Pros:
Very established university with reputable name
Seemed advanced in technology
Would like to experience living there
Seems to offer a very humanistic approach to medicine
Felt a good fit with students/liked curriculum & structure
Cons:
Does not match as competitively nor as much in California
A bit more pricey
Not ranked as highly as UCI

I know my lists aren't very comprehensive, but I find it hard to compare schools because when you look at the details, it seems they offer very similar things. I'm not sure what I want to specialize in either, which does not help much. I do hope to end up in California eventually, but do not need to be there right now. To find a job in California, will it be much easier to have a residency in California? I know I am in a great position and I have two amazing choices and I would be so happy to be at either place, which is why it is so difficult to decide.

Congrats on your choices! I got into Tulane and an in state CA as well and will be choosing the latter. I interviewed at UCI as well and wouldve chosen it over Tulane. Although I loved Tulane and New Orleans, the huge COA was a huge deterrant. Although it is definitely possible to match back in CA coming from Tulane, your chances are invariably better coming from UCI.

To me, this is a no brainer as the difference in debt is actually quite significant. At the end of the day, you won't regret graduating from UCI and experiencing the same(ish) environment another 4 years. However, you may regret graduating from Tulane knowing that you could've saved >100,000 after interest down the line.

Also, if you're going to have "advanced tech" as a Pro under Tulane it should be a pro under UCI as well. They practically shove their new ultrasound tech during your throat during the interview day lol

Thank you so much for your reply. I was definitely leaning towards UCI but wanted to see others opinions as they truly are great choices and fits for me. I meant to have technology under UCI too, not sure how I missed that lol. Thanks for your reply and support!

I want to eventually work in California, but I want to live elsewhere before I settle down. I'd love to live in one place for school, another for residency, and then work in California. Is that very difficult? Is it best to do residency in California if I hope to eventually work there?
