Quick question. Does anyone know if people put on hold can later get straight acceptances without being on the waitlist? I ask this because i was drafting a loi and upon looking through some papers it mentions hold will result in either waitlist or rejection, does not mention acceptance being an option. I found that kind of troubling.

Also, does anyone know specifically how heavily Case draws off its waitlist? Thanks.

Hey I have heard that they do have pretty good movement and there is definitely some movement that goes on before the waitlist/reject determining date of may 15, I think we'll see things start to shift in february or march. They said that they want to review all the interviewed applicants before making a decision. Once they have a better idea of the amount of accepted applicants and of the applicant pool on hold, then they will start going over all the holds and take a few off.

Whose going to second look weekend? I'm kind of a foodie, and I really want to take advantage of this opportunity to visit Michael Symon's restaurant "Lola". Anyone interested? For an upscale place, he tries to keep the price down ($30ish per main, about $60 total per person), so it's affordable in the realm of haute. I'm going to try and make reservations 2 months in advance or so. Let me know...

planning on going. i heard case paid for room and board last year, plus gave you food and drink tickets. by the way guys, i started the class of 2013 thread in the allopathic class forum. contribute or die!!!! err.....yeah

I just got invited to interview @ CCLCM and, needless to say, I'm surprised and psyched! Can anybody give me any pointers?

for the people who interviewed at case (not CCLCM):

i'm looking at the interview letter, and it just talks about how there are two interviews: one with a faculty, which will last 45 minutes, and another with a student, which will last 30 mins.

Can anyone please tell me what time I can expect to finish everything for the day?

thanks! 🙂:luck:

you will likely finish between 2-4pm. You can request an earlier time for the afternoon interview, they are very accomidating.

Show your interest in research and small group learning.

Congrats to you both!😀👍 My interview day ended by 3:30, but there's some variability depending on faculty/student availability and if you've told them about scheduling difficulties/flight issues. Faculty interviews (when I went) were in the morning for everyone (between 9-10ish), with students later in the afternoon (I'd say maybe from 2PM onward).

As to pointers, come prepared. Know why it is you applied to Case and why that's awesome. Don't forget to sell yourself and tie that in with things you like about Case.

That's what I did, anyway. Whether it worked or not was decided yesterday and will be made known to me by next week.

Good luck, guys!👍:luck::xf:

I've got my interview coming up too, except it's for the MD/DMD program. Anyone else interview for this program? How were your experiences?

just checked iapply

I'm in!!! yay first acceptance!

Same here on all accounts.😱

Thanks for the heads up!

gratz!! i knew a decision was coming next week. so i hadn't even logged into iapply since my interview. just decided to check today for no real reason :luck::luck::luck:

but i can't get back in right now. iapply is not loading for me.

I was put on hold after my interview, and got a straight acceptance today!!! So yes, it happens!

Congrats to all the new Acceptees!! Of your acceptances so far, is Case your top choice? At current it is for me, so there's a good chance we'll be classmates next year! 😱

Wow will I be classmates with the famous Vihsadas? I'm intimidated.

I sent a LOI after being put on hold, and I interviewed the first week of Dec. Best of luck!

Hey, big foodie here too, so I'm definitely down for checking out Lola.

P.S. Grats to everyone else that got accepted

I have a Case / CCLCM interview coming up on Monday and Tuesday. Do you guys know any good hotels to stay at for it? Which ones would be the most convenient? 🙂

Hey Kids! I am like 98% sure that I am going to case and am very excited to talk to future classmates =) I will be at second look weekend and would be down to check out the restaurant as long as there is time. Isnt the whole weekend very planned though?

Anywho, I think you guys should check this out. It looks amazing. I might try to make it there second look weekend too...

yay for med school! 🙂

I also want to say that being this excited about medical school has been extremely detrimental to writing my thesis.....

I just want to be there now! 😉

Anyone else have problems focusing on their current life?

That does sound really cool, may have to see it at second look... By the way, has anyone heard about financial aid yet? They said information would be available early January on our iapply page but I dont see anything.

I'll be at second look weekend for sure. Excited! That market does looks really cool. I'd seriously love to check it out if we have time.

its certainly an interesting school, the research done there is amazing. I was interviewing there yesterday and it was -10 deg when I walked over with a -25 deg wind chill and I literally got frost nip on one of my ears, lol (Hopefully it will heal before my last interview next week). What do you guys think about living in cleveland though. Not one med stdent I talked to really had much to say about anything to do there at all. I realize you need to spend tons of time studying, but I feel like having a few nice local escapes every now and then would be very beneficial.

Bolded for emphasis...I totally get where you're coming from, I've already started checking out some apartments online! It's definitely made me a lot calmer though (Just ask my friends/family) knowing I'm in somewhere, and that somewhere is pretty damn hot. Right now I'm just focusing on finishing Orgo 2 lab and work work (which ironically enough has gotten a lot more stressful lately).

Haven't gotten any financial aid stuff yet, for whoever asked, but I'm sure it's right around the corner.

As for living in Cleveland..personally, I'm really easy to please..get me a TV, some Twin Peaks/Battlestar Gallactica, bottle of wine, some good food, and I'm set! But really, from what I hear about Cleveland, there's a pretty wide variety of clubs, restaurants, museums, etc...there's a case wiki page w/some info (http://wiki.case.edu/Cleveland_Guide). Definitely check it out..I talked to a few students too, and they seemed okay with it. While it's no NY, Cleveland is definitely a major urban city (which reminds me of another thing..stay safe out there guys!)

does case accept deferals?

yes, case lets you defer for any reason.

Also, re: things to do in cleveland
...it's a small city. Its strengths are all of the green space/outdoorsy opportunities and how there's easily accessible and cheap! world class museums, theater, sports, and symphony available. On the flip side, there aren't as many clubs/bars/lounges, there aren't as many events or such happening in the city, and while there's a foodie community here so there's lots of great restaurants, there's still fewer of them than in a big city (ex. there's only a handful of thai places, but at least 2 of them are really good).

Most likely, you'll find some things that you'll be pleasantly surprised by and you'll have some nights when you wish you were in a "real" city. There's not a lot of people at Case who LOVE the city but I don't feel like there's a lot of people who'd change their decision based on the city either.

Is it too early for someone to start a class of 2013 facebook group for casemed? Who usually starts it?

I would love to get to know people better... 😎

i started an SDN class thread a little while back.

by the way, does anyone know anything about the case merit scholarships? i know their by invitation, but what happens then? and how many people get invited?

 totally agree with you! I'm having a hard time concentrating on work. I want to quit right now and go to medical school!😀

It's a little hard for me to be honest. I've got a pretty awesome life right now with a great gal and great friends. I'm sure it's going to be awesome next year, but you know there will be things I'll miss sorely.

Just noticed I was rejected post-secondary via the status page. 🙁

Burn.

There's always next year lol.

edit: for the university program

Sorry to hear......Is 3.9 from state school better/worse than 3.6 from a private school. In other words does undergraduate school make a difference?

I don't know about Case, but I've heard from some of my interviewers that it does make a difference. It's not a hard and fast rule, but I can almost guarantee that it's certainly not enough to make up for a 0.3 difference.

By the way, I was wondering if anyone is applying to any of the dual-degree options under the University Program. While it will mean that you'd have to spend your afternoons in class, I still think that's part of what makes Case as a whole so unique.

I'm applying for the MD/PhD in Health Research Policy myself..anyone else?

I'm looking at that bioethics masters!👍

whats the size of the stipend if you get into the phd program?

Hey all. I was deferred in October and got the call a min ago from Dr. Mehta. I GOT IN!!!!!!!!!!

Did you send anything since the hold? Update or letter of intent/interest?

I'm drafting a letter now. The more schools I visit the more I love Case.
