Where are you guys reading this?

I called today to ask about something and they told me that decisions would be sent out next week

Whoa, this thread just blew up. I just wanted to wish everyone good luck!!! Definitely don't sit by the computer tomorrow. Besides being somewhat pointless, I wouldn't be surprised if not all decisions go out tomorrow and don't want anyone to freak out needlessly.

Expect the worst but hope for the best. And no matter what happens, you'll ALL make great doctors someday (even though some may not be accepted until next time around). :luck:

Lol, I ain't going through this again. I'll do a PhD in economics or maybe a JD instead.

Retsage, I think we're in very similar positions!

Everything looked great on paper, and then reality hit me over the head. 😳 I guess the interviewers knew something about me that I didn't!

Life goes on... 🙂

zomg that's rather disturbing... I should stop by tomorrow and see whats up. (I probably wont)

So this means that even email rejections and waitlist offers will not go out until next week????

who knows.....the PAS now just says that notifications will be sent out once ALL applicants have been reviewed....no date or time estimate...pretty vague....im on edge...:scared:

Stop it with your encouraging words! Your silver tongue won't fool us, you pernicious harbinger of optimism!

For serious, though, I NEED a defense mechanism against disappointment. Duke is not only the perfect school for me in terms of "fit," it's also one of only a few schools that work for me geographically. So I REALLY, REALLY (REALLY REALLY REALLY) want to get in here, and the irrational part of my brain keeps telling me that I will. So the disappointment is already going to be huge - I just can't let it get TOO huge.

Wow, don't think I've ever heard an optimist described in such villainous terms! But you and I have the geographical part in common -- after spending time in beautiful North Carolina, I developed an allergic reaction to everywhere else.

Oh, and Duke just posted a new note on the PAS. It says that they've actually already made all admissions decisions and that the delay in their delivery is motivated by nothing more than a desire to cause anxiety and inflict suffering. <3, Duke.

Honestly, based on the positive feedback I kept getting at my interviews, I'm starting to wonder if one of my LOIs was just no good. Or maybe I just can't take responsibility for my own mass amounts of suck. But damn it, they said such nice things. 🙁

aw man, I was even prepared. I called apple to figure out how to turn off just one of my email account on my iphone.

so.....i'm guessing no news today....

probably not going to be today. i vote we all relax as much as possible over the weekend. i for one have exhausted my cortisol supply.

While you are relaxing, there's always that possibility you might be in for a surprise. 🙁

OMG got a Duke Alumni email this morning and almost died...I guess by reading the posts today there will be no news...

No news.

Thank God. At least my weekend isn't ruined. Giving bad news on a Friday is immoral.

I know what you mean. Although my interviews were hit-or-miss, my decisions have been consistently disappointing...and I'm not sure why! In general my interviewers were non-critical and complimentary, but sometimes I wish they were less so (after all, it's ultimately the committees we're trying to impress - and their job is to ask critical questions). Eh, but that doesn't matter anymore.

Anyway, I think we've both earned a little break from being hard on ourselves...! 👍

I am on the same boat as you all, dying of waiting. and I completely understand how it feels to try and not get your hopes up. I feel like I am going in cycles, daydreaming about getting in. then i say to myself, that possibility is so low, then I daydream again, then I stop myself. in a way, i don't want to find out.... then I can just daydream. i guess i stop myself just because if i get rejected I'll be sad!

Is anyone experiencing this emotional cycle, this love-hate relationship of your own capabilities?:scared:

Same here, right now I feel like I'm on a perpetual waitlist...

i'm so nervous still waiting....

maybe monday? We should start a poll to place bets on when the acceptances/rejections will come out

Haha, my interview invite was sent on a Monday at 6:16 am.

I'm putting my money on this Friday...

friday they send it? or friday you get the mail.

I'm thinking Monday, but that is just wishful thinking on my part.

I'm gonna say they send out decisions on Friday...put me down for sending decisions on Friday. I'll wager...hmmm...$1?

sighs.
Another waiting for Duke here.

Duke..... I'd really love to go to med school there. Hopin its not going to be the one that got away 😀

Rarely do I ever have clarity in my life. But when I went interviewin, I knew that Duke was my no.1 .... amazing program, amazing curriculum, awesome med students. Loved NC, even coming from CA where we peeps are notorious for hating everywhere else.

Kind of sucks that they interview SO many people though. I mean, just makes the post-interview chances that much lower really.

I dont even have a no. 2 choice..... even though I'm into four other schools. If I dont get into Duke I'd be disappointed as heck coz I can't see myself half as happy going to a different med school. *shrugs*

How many people does Duke interview? Is it a lot more than other schools?

I think it's usually 900-1000 a year but only for around 100 spots, so they'll only accept 150-170 outright. Like any highly ranked school, Duke has a pretty good retention rate so they don't admit too many!

My friend that works for AAMC actually dug up the exact statistics on Duke admissions for me, but they're from the 2006-2007 entering class.

Primary applications completed:5166
Secondary applications completed:2120
Interviews:780

But it sounded like Duke was interviewing a few more applicants than usual this year.

no mail today....
i wasn't waiting by the mailbox or anything....i just happened to be out by the road reading when the truck whizzed by my house....*sigh*

realistically we should be expecting to see at least some of the reject/waitlist emails before acceptances via mail...right? Assuming they go out around the same time.

Oof this stinks. Now I get to have a minor heart attack every time I see the (1) on my gmail inbox again, but while during interview season it could be a good thing, now I get to wait for bad news all day every day this week. And that's assuming we're hearing back this week. Sigh...

I honestly doubt we'll hear back this week, so I'm just trying not to think about it, you know?

Well, med schools are supposed to present to AAMC a list of accepted students by March 15th, which so happens to be a Sunday, so I'm thinking the latest they can possibly send us info would be Monday. But I'm guessing they'll get stuff out Thursday or Friday.

you mean may 15th?

Nope, I mean March. May 15th is when each person can only hold one acceptance. On March 15th, all med schools have to give to the AAMC a list of accepted applicants equal or greater to the class size. I think this was discussed in some other threads here. I'm guessing this is why all non-rolling schools give all decisions around this time.

Curse the (1)! One of the students I tutor told me she was going to send me sporadic e-mails throughout the week, as she apparently enjoys inducing the small heart attack episodes you speak of.

Someone brought this up in another thread and asked how Penn could get away with sending out acceptances at the end of March...so I did a little digging and saw that the AAMC website says March 30th. Still, I would be surprised if Duke went much later than the 15th, considering that a week ago they were aiming for March 6.

Huh, interesting! I could have sworn everyone else said March 15th. Well, I stand corrected.
