If it makes any difference, my labmate who went to Northwestern for undergrad and worked in IT says random servers containing stuff like usernames and passwords go down all the time...

Don't take my word for it though! It is somewhat suspicious

i can't login anymore either, hopefully this doesn't mean i'm rejected 🙁

That's obviously not what it means. By the way, the uber-negativity is not going to help you during this app process. If you're concerned then just call them.

I am able to access the site. It says that I'm under review. I hope I get an interview from NW. It is one of my top schools 🙂.

....more secondaries to complete.... =(

i guess my internet sarcasm wasn't obvious there, perhaps i should've added a lol in there somewhere 🙂

anyways, i called and the lady wasn't quite clear about it, but she's pretty sure they are having computer problems, and they can look up your status for you if you must know.

hey to all who got interviews, major congratulations, i'm so happy for you!

since i'm applying to this school as well (am in the process of completing the secondary), i was wondering if you guys wouldn't mind sharing what your stats were (gpa's, mcat) just to get a sense of what my chances are of getting an interview.....thank you!

I think most people willing to share their stats have MDApps profiles that are linked to their SDN account. You can look at mine, if you'd like. 🙂

Does northwestern have a student hosting program?

Edit: nevermind, answered my own question. "Available September 9, 2008"

I get the feeling that after you've been complete for a couple of weeks you are removed access, possibly to the site to limit bandwidth usage. Someone earlier posted that the status page never contains anything about interview/rejection status anyway but that it comes in an email.

I haven't heard a peep from Feinberg and I've been complete for about 2 months. Can they at least send me a rejection or hold notification . . . seriously.

Feinberg is...almost my #1 choice but it's not fun how it's one of those schools that give the silent treatment.

Hey all - so what's the consensus? When the letters are received and/or the submitted application is received, on the "status page," I will see it as "received" instead of "Application Due Date: September xx, 2008"?

I just turned in my app now and sent in my LoR ~2 weeks ago, but I still see a due date (for tomorrow) instead of an actual status 😕

Mine said received with the date received for the supplemental and then for the LOR. My LORs took a while to post on the status page but it's okay if they are received after your deadline. If you are worried just call and ask, they were very nice when I did.

Here is what your page should say after they have received everything from you:

Application Status:
Your application is complete and under review.
You Supplemental Application and application fee were received [date].
All letters of recommendation were received [date].

Thanks for the info. Was this status update automatic (ie. pretty immediate) or did it seem like someone in the admissions office actually had to "approve" and "process" that they have received your application? I'm definitely being impatient, but I turned mine in like half an hour ago and the status page is still the same 🙂

I'd say give a few weeks for everything to show up (letters), definitely won't happen when you hit submit.

I sent my letters in on 8/28, submitted the app 9/2, and it didn't show that it received my letters until 9/6.

how about the app though, did it show up as "received" pretty immediately or did that take time too? And if my deadline is tomorrow, is it okay that it's not marked as "received" yet if I've submitted the online app on my part?

it showed up pretty quickly, by the next day.

I want to say that my app was marked received the day after I sent it, but I can't remember exactly. I'm sure they get a time stamp of when you submitted it online so I don't think you will be penalized if it isn't marked received until after your deadline (as long as you submitted it before that).

Good luck!

I had been unable to log in for about a week and a half, but I randomly tried again this morning and it worked. The status is still the same ("under review"), but maybe they have fixed whatever the problem was.

Northwestern, get back to me already...! I've been complete for a little over three weeks and not a peep 🙁

Going to check last year's interview invites to see what the range of completion -- interview invite was... I'm eager to hit up NW during my Pritzker trip, as I can't afford to fly out there twice.

Just venting. Thanks for listening guys.

always within a month of completion ... so I'm going to assume it's bad news if I haven't heard in a week or so...

Northwestern: Ebizzle (complete 8/08; Invite 8/16, Interview 9/21), ICanDoThis (complete 8/8; invite 8/16, interview 9/18), BurnEmUpBears (invite 8/21, interview 9/25, QTCL13 (complete 8/15, invite 8/23, interview 9/25); alesdu1 (Complete 8/10, Invite 8/30, Interview 10/5) Artaxerxes (complete 8/17, invite 9/6), SigurRos (invite 9/6), icemountain23 (invite 9/6, interview 10/12), stwabewwie (complete 8/16, invite 9/13), waitforme (complete 8/25, invite 9/20, interview 11/16), g8terboi (complete 9/11, invite 10/5, interview 11/20), Bonsai (complete 8/13, invite 8/30, interview early Oct)

well that makes me depressed. i've been complete for almost a month now.

I received an empty email from Luss, Felicia FSM today. It just said "Dear XXX".

Anyone else get this? What happened next?

Still nothing from Northwestern. . . still under review. Can they at least put me on hold?

It seems they "clicked the wrong button" while looking at my file. "There is no message."

At least they were looking. . .

That's how it was last year at least....so far this year, no one who's been complete after 8/6 has gotten an invite. That's a lot longer spread than last year, so I wouldn't give up yet. I've been complete for one month today, so here's hoping for some news soon!

I haven't posted my info on the Feinberg thread, but I was complete on 8/7 and was offered an interview on 8/26. I do NOT think that means bad news for the rest of you who are waiting to hear from them (since many of you have amazing MDapps), but I did want to just throw that bit of info out there. G'luck!

With an application like that, I'm really not surprised lol

i know!! i tried calling to hint about hitting it up while im in Chi too, but the lady basically said "we look at files in the order they are received"
she said to send an email with the fact that you'll be in town, and that they can put it in your file.

I also called after submitting my app b/c I knew that I would be in Chicago for another interview, and was told to send an email as well. After I sent the email, I got the message of "we look at them in the order they are received", but then I was offered interview dates that corresponded to the date that I had told them I would be in Chicago. So. Who knows?

hey peeps, dont get depressed! i was complete 8/4, and got the invite today, 9/18.

Also, their interview scheduling isnt so goood... theyre giving me 2 dates... oct 7 and 10th, neither of which are easy for me (i already have interviews on oct 6th and 13th)

I finally got an interview here. Looking forward to it. Good luck to all still waiting.

Does anybody know how many people who apply get invites to NW?

About 11% of applicants are interviewed.

From the MSAR (latest edition):

Acceptance & Matriculation Data for 2007-2008 First Year Class:
Resident | Non-Resident | International | Total
Applied 1003 | 6106 | 418 | 7527
Interviewed 130 | 693 | 40 | 863
Matriculated 38 | 121 | 10 | 169

Matriculates includes 5 from early assurance program, 36 Baccalaureate/MD and 15 MD/PhD.

I hope this is helpful.

It is helpful. Thanks!

Here's hoping!

that leaves only 65 available seats for the incoming class

Not if the total matriculation is 169. I think you're using the out-of-state matriculation of 121.

anyone know if midway or ohare is better?

anyone know if midway or ohare is better?
For the med school Midway is probably better. Its usually cheaper and flights don;t get delayed as much. I've only flown out of there once. I fly out of ohare all the time, flights are usually delayed, etc. you can get to the school using public transportation from either airport. pick whichever you get the cheaper flight from.

Northwestern is an amazing program. I'm an M1 from California and turned down two UC schools to come here... very pleased with my decision.
If you have questions PM me (just know we are very busy).

Northwestern is one of the few schools that ignores USNWR rankings. Many residency directors consider it a top 10 med school as our match list suggests. Each year there are about 120 spots for applicants applying through AMCAS (the rest come from Northwestern directly).

I was at the Admissions office today speaking to interviewees - maybe I met some of you 🙂

Good luck!👍

I was complete 8/21, still no invite yet

Same here, not that I'm expecting one. But Northwestern is my dream school, so I'm praying for some kind of miracle.

I would LOVE to get an interview here....

been complete mid august.

Then I guess being complete on 9/4, I should just be prepared to wait some more! Hoping for an interview badddd!

I have been complete since 8/5, and I keep calling admissions, but the keep telling me to wait and that their final decision with be though email and mail...

What do you mean by "one of the few schools that ignores USNWR rankings"?

Some top schools in the US News & World Report intentionally do things that will increase their ranking, such as primarily accepting people with incredibly high MCAT/GPA (WashU especially), aiming for LOTs of NIH $$$, etc. While many of these "officially" high-ranked schools put out really top-notch doctors, there are schools, such as Northwestern, that also have great programs but may be ranked lower on the USNWR because they choose not to build their program/admissions on what will increase their rankings. Which of course makes me love them even more.

I'm not sure how much this matters at all. Seems like you really took that paragraph in wikipedia to heart.

That said I have had a good experience at Feinberg so far, regardless of our take on whether or not Feinberg admissions tries to improve its rankings.

I know better than to get my information on med schools from wikipedia.
