Holy moly I just got a Stanford interview!!! I did not see this coming! Wheeeeeee
 
Ohh yeah! Ok, shemarty...we're making a deal now. If I get a stanford interview (haha I know, it's practically impossible, but one can hope!), we go get coffee or something. Deal?

Hey, hey, hey! I didn't say that!

The way I see it, I would have already scheduled an interview the same day as LET (this would be in November), so I would have met you before then. And we become bestest friends so that we don't schedule coffee dates anymore...it would be routine for us. And then we all go to Harvard med school (they would accept you without an app, LET because you're that wonderful) and live happily ever after.



I'm really sleepy...

At my Stanford interview there was only 1 other applicant. I was killing time before lunch, and I had SDN open as one of my tabs. He returns from his morning interview and sees me at my computer.

Him: "Do you go on SDN a lot?"

Me: "uh... haha ... yea..."

Him: "What's your username?"

Me: Shemarty

Him: .......YOU'RE SHEMARTY?!

Heh, it's still pretty amusing every time🙂

Hmph that's better. Actually, it sounds like a great plan. HMS is in a lovely area of Boston. My mom would love it. I'm actually starting to wonder if she sent them an application FOR me cause she's sounded really sneaky lately. Sigh.

And Shemarty, I know what that's like, except I'm usually surrounded by people being like "Have you seen SDN? Bunch of freakin nutcases" and I'm like "yeah! Crazies" *looks down at interview folder and pretends to be very concerned with financial aid info*

I asked them via email if I could send updates and they said it's "against their policy" Not fun for me 🙁
 
Someone I knew was interviewing last week so I came down to the cafe during lunch. I figure more people on SDN must be interviewing in the upcoming weeks...?

If you have any empty time in your schedule, feel free to PM me and I can show you around, too. I had blocks of 2 hours where I had nothing to do, and I ended up sitting in the medical student lounge - which is a great option, too.

Oh no! I totally got preoccupied that Wednesday and forgot. If you're coming, definitely PM me ahead of time to confirm and stuff, and I will definitely come by and/or show you around the undergrad campus if you have time, etc.

So, does anyone have a general idea of the chances of being accepted once you have an interview? I am extremely shocked that I was granted one, because I am definitely below avg. for their numbers. I almost feel like I got this just so that it can be an easy rejection...Blah, but their program is so great for everything I want to do.
 
I was told about 1 in 3. 450 interviewed, 125 - 150 extended an offer.

The earliest date I saw when I signed up a couple of weeks ago was for early Dec. (sorry can't remember anything specific). I ended up registering for a January date.

Would it be presumptuous to send an in the area notification to Stanford? I know the NYC schools let you do this, but what about the Bay area ones?

I don't know, but a lot of schools reply with "thanks, we'll put this info in your file, and if we decide to offer you an interview, we'll try our best to accomodate your schedule..."

I had it the other way around. Stanford sent me an invite first, so I e-mailed UCSF to let them know that I would be in the area. Two days later, I received an interview invite from UCSF.

Sorry about the late response! I was invited on 11/15 and the earliest available interview date then was Monday, 1/5. Stanford also has this rule where if you are physically living west of the Mississippi River, then you must sign up for an interview day on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday. For everyone east of the river, all five weekdays are available. I hope this helps somewhat...

I was complete at Stanford on Aug. 9, and I have heard nothing from them. Is this a silent rejection, or is there some small possibility that I will still get an interview?

It's still possible! I got an invite recently (about a week after I sent them an "in the area" email), and I was complete in early August, too. Have faith.
 
Someone just got in (JambaJHUice) who interviewed in mid-November!

Woah! That's so fast. I interviewed in early November and was told that we wouldn't hear back until late January.
 
Interviewed 11/14. Missed call from California last night at around 9:30 pm EST. Didn't sleep a wink last night waiting to call Dean Garcia back today. Absolutely shocked that I got in (it's a holiday miracle!). They also told me to expect a decision around the end of January.

Congrats!!! I interviewed on 10/15 and I was told that I'd hear back in early January. I'm hoping Dean Garcia continues to call next week. I'm freaking out over here!

Congratulations! I interviewed 11/17 and was told 2 to 3 months, so I haven't been expecting anything. Now I'm nervous!
 
Okay, it's officially Monday now. Hopefully, we'll get some more good news! 🙂

Not for me.

Stanford has such a small class size, so they accept so few people... and SDN is such a narrow sliver of the applicant pool...

Hard to extrapolate.
 
for people who are still waiting to hear back for interviews... i sent in an in the area email per a UCSF interview invite, and Stanford emailed me back and basically said... "No." 🙄
