The SAS account is how you logged in to schedule your interview.

Oooh, carolina duke, right next to each other, 1 and 2 at the top of the specific school threads. i like the drama.

has anyone seen the tobacco road documentary on hbo? i just came home to watch my parents dvr of it. it is an INCREDIBLE documentary; it really embodies everything about the rivalry. anyone who isnt from carolina or duke undergrad and considering either school should really watch it.

id hate to go into the harsh rigorous grading of clinicals before even being exposed to a patient. we will be full of such nervous excitement (emphasis on the nervous) when we enter into clinicals, itll be nice to have some background and experience. I assume everything changes when you are actually facing a real patient, and id hate to learn of that change after the grading has begun. this is why, for me at least, patient contact is very important in the preclinical years
Idk if this is true or not, but if it is everyone will be in the same boat. So it really wouldnt put you at a disadvantage for grades.

Hey aladdin, you said second look was scheduled for March 28th?? DO you know why I havent received anything??? I guess I was before the special online login system

Good question. I don't have access to any online login system either so I don't know what the deal is with that. I knew of the date because I emailed the office (last weekend) and asked. Randee said that it second look would be March 28 and that the invitations would be mailed out this week ("this" being last week). I didn't receive an invitation either, so I am not sure what the deal is. If I haven't heard anything by the end of this week, I'm probably going to call and ask them some time next week.

When I log into my SAS account, it has Second Look listed for March 28, and a place for you to indicate whether or not you are going to attend.

Can someone please post a link to this SAS account? Did they give you a specific login or is it just your AMCAS ID? The early birds are feeling left out 😕

There is a place at the bottom of unc medical school education page that says login. I think that is it. But the people that interviewed early don't have username passwords.

Everyone is so interested in the Second Look day login via the SAS software. I doubt it means anything. Anyone who had to register for an interview can see the Second Look information.

We were asking about the SAS because only people who interviewed after Christmas or so registered for an interview online. For example, I scheduled my interview over the phone (there was no online scheduling system in place then).

Haha. It's not a big deal. I wish it did mean something for those that haven't heard yet.

is the committee meeting today?

Yeah, that is what mine shows. The link that brought me to the interview calendar has disappeared, and now it just brings me straight to what you described.

👍

The FAFSA just has to be submitted by March 1, not processed, right?

Yes. That is correct. It must be submitted by March 1. Submitting after March 1 puts you far down the queue and is not a good idea if you want a decent Financial Aid package.

Where do y'all get this information on Second Look? Can someone post a link to the site?

Everyone who interviewed pre-January that didn't get a SAS account should have gotten an email today inviting them to attend and RSVP for the second look on march 28th.

.... if admitted. no?

Yes if admitted you got an email re: second look.

Everyone who has been accepted should have gotten the email. I interviewed in January and got it.

question...i filled out Fafsa with my parents tax information from last year...if I go ahead and change that now will it put me at a disadvantage (dont know why it would, my parents income went down 20K)?

No, it won't put you at a disadvantage. If you submitted the Fafsa with last year's info, then it has already been submitted. Just change the info for your parents new info whenever you get a chance.

Hey everyone.

So, I was accepted to UNC, and just got a letter yeaterday that I am an out-of-state applicant. I was not really expecting that (I grew up in NC, but have been in San Francisco after college, working). I have heard that you can get in-state status after a year... does anyone know anything about this? I interviewed on a snow day, so we missed out on all of the financial aid talk. I would appreciate any help!

In order to be an in-state applicant you have to have resided in the state of NC for one continuous year prior to matriculation. Also, I believe the fact that you are working outside of NC did not work in your favor. Prepare to bite the bullet when it comes to tuition.

From what I know, after your first year becoming an instate is easy and straightforward. Talking to other oos students and unc, fin office is very easy to work with and they'll help you every step of the way when the time comes.

Congratulations!

I would think that you'd be able to get in-state residency for the next year. You just need to do things like register to vote, vote, get a NC driver's license, buy a house/condo if you can, pay NC taxes, etc.

My girlfriend is going through the process now. You have to get an NC Drivers License, Register your car in NC, get NC insurance, and pay taxes, and I think that you have to support yourself financially for a year at at least 50%. This means that you have to have a job, demonstrate you are providing for yourself, and pay NC income tax. Since you have been doing most of those things in SF for the past year, you are now a CA resident. I may be leaving something out of the process. If you want to know more, PM me and I can ask her for more details.

will there be alot of calls going out next monday?

So here's the thing about this coming Monday: its UNC's spring break-med school's too I THINK, so most faculty and students will be gone. I'm not sure if this means they won't meet or not, but just so ya know..

Question... since the second look is set for Mar 28, does that mean they're going to fill up the remaining seats before then?

Med Schools Spring Break is definitely not this week. It starts the 20th I think. I was talking about it last night with my roomate.
He also keeps telling me one of his friends is on the admissions committee (who is also a med student) and that they culled a lot of people last week. So if you didn't get a rejection letter things are looking good. I think he or the girl he was talking to is confused though, since only out of state people will get rejected outright before April 1st. Or so I believe. SO, OOS'ers there ya go.
Furthermore, said friend keeps asserting he's heard they've only accepted or filled (he isnt sure which) about 100 people. Personally, I don't really put much stock in this because my official stance is that I've abandoned all hope and I'm suspicious he's just trying to keep my hopes up, but some of you might be interested in these things.

So the friend who is on the adcom is a med student? I thought there were no med students on the committee.

I was told 3-4 weeks ago that 100 seats had been filled.

There are. My adcom talked about it at my interview.

If that is true then 60 spots left. Not too shabby. I want one 😀

I think I approach every other monday with dread rather than hope.

I'm planning for the future in case I need to apply again. Gotta keep moving.

Thats what I thought. I didn't know students interviewed. I had a student interview at ECU and I didn't like it. It was a weird dynamic. Anyway, thats what he told me. I told him a good bit of that stuff conflicted with what I saw on here, so I just don't know what to believe anymore.

Hey does anyone know, for unc but also for med schools in general, how much you have to screw up during your last semester of college to get your acceptance taken away? I took some classes that were WAY out of my comfort zone because I thought they would be "interesting" but now am wishing I had taken at least one of them pass/fail! I don't need them to graduate or anything, but still... Anyone know the rules about this? Thanks!

Just out of curiosity, what is the incoming class size at UNC I'm thinking its pretty big.

Cs I think....although all that ive seen from UNC was that we needed to successfully complete our graduation requirements.
