Well I am waiting to hear from Michigan. Other than that I've withdrawn my application from most other places. Even though I'm waiting on Michigan, I'm still 95% set on UNC because I am an in-state student and the cost is cheaper. But if I get accepted to Michigan I will deliberate for a little and come to a conclusion

Did you say you were accepted to UNC (if not when did you interview), and are you in-state?

Yeah. Interviewed Nov 12, accepted Jan 12. In-state.

so what seems to be the typical wait time for those that interviewed and got accepted?

Interviewed on November 10th found out January 12th. So about 8-9 weeks for me; almost the same as Aladdin. I'm in-state as well. Some people may find out sooner than that however because the medical school was closed for two weeks for xmas break.

I was told to wait 4 to 6 weeks by the Admission office. I interviewed in mid February.

probably because waitlisted people and rejected people find out at the end of march. so since it is later in the interview cycle, and these waitlist/rejection decisions are coming out, you may found out whether you are accepted or not sooner? idk...

Haha. Your guess is as good as mine. For some reason I am confident I will know in the beginning of March. I had 2 excellent interviews. I really made my case and I know for a fact, I can't do better than that. I was in inspired form.

Well that is awesome, congrats on your successful interviews. I hope to see you in the fall. Who did you interview with and are you in-state? Do you go to undergrad at UNC?

any chance of them making the calls tomorrow?
i heard from a faculty that they start meeting weekly around this time

did u interview? (and if u did then when?)

did not interview, only a fading fantasy at this point.....ha

Congrats to all who are in, and good luck to those still waiting 👍

Anyone know about this? I haven't heard that they start meeting weekly at some point. If they do, maybe it's after all the interviews are over.

I just logged into the online scheduling system (now used to schedule interviews) just for the heck of it, and there is now a link on there to schedule appointments for "Second Visit" so it seems there will be a Second Look opportunity.

Whats the online scheduling system? It wasn't there when I was invited.

It's just a website you go to to schedule your interview, and, apparently, your second look. I don't see any dates to choose from though. Perhaps it's because they haven't posted it yet. Or perhaps it's because I haven't been accepted (yet, hopefully!).

It wasn't up and running for me either. Any chance you could post a link? Just curious....

Hey yall,
So, this might seem like a weird question, but for the people who love UNC and think of it as their first choice, I was just wondering the reasons why you are so in love with it? I know it is a great school with a great reputation and a sweet deal for IS students, but I didn't get a great feel for it on interview day, so I was just wondering what makes you LOVE it.
Thanks guys!

For me it was basically the fact that you get a very high quality education at a low price. I also enjoy the idea of staying close to home. Oh yeah and their basketball team is pretty good.

Quality of education + price of education makes it hard to beat. Something else that really drew me to UNC was meeting/hanging out with their M1s and M2s. They just seemed so down to earth and VERY well-rounded (not interviewees, but students). At other schools, the students seemed a little too obsessive about being in med school which (IMO) could lead to a pretty miserable 4 years.

Just my thoughts....

I'm interested in writing a LOI, does anyone know to whom I should address it? Dr. Bashford, the dean of addmissions? I feel like I got interrupted by my committee interviewer during my "why I want to go to UNC" speech and would like to restate my point. Thoughts? UNC is by far my first choice (I'm IS), and I want to do all I can without harassing people.
Thanks!

And in reply to the person who wants to know why I love it: I love the location. The curriculum is more up my alley (I did a premed master's so learned what I do and don't like in med school a curriculum): things blocked out, systems based learning, one exam every two weeks and not 6 at once, afternoons free to study, etc. I also really liked the students. I know a few and they are all really laid back and actually have lives. The pass/fail system makes it a lot less competitive, so people are really helpful. On top of all of that it's an incredible school and tuition is amazing (I'll come out with less/comparable debt than my boyfriend who did a 2 year master's at Duke).

Thanks!...

I wouldn't hesitate to write a LOI. I would address it either to "Dr. Robert Bashford & Office of Admissions" or just "Office of Admissions." It probably doesn't matter because the admissions office more than likely opens most mail and adds it to your file.

My adcom interview was kind of like yours too. It was very short, but I didn't feel like I got cut off. If you have something important to add, I would sent it (I would say "Why you want to go to UNC" is important").

Good luck!

Yes, as far as I know there is another meeting tomorrow (well today at this point). I'll be on edge the entire day!

I'm just assuming there is one. There was a meeting two weeks ago, and we know they meet every other week.

I'm not trying to be funny, but how do we know they meet every other week? I'm just curious how people find out this information. This whole process is all cloak and dagger.

It's well known, but my adcom member told me during my interview. Plus, if you review this thread, you'll see that people get word every other Monday.

Aye... 'tis a strange-omenon. 'Haps the mittee meets to-nite then, yar?

Here's to many, many phone calls.

Amen to lots of phone calls, though I doubt I'll hear this soon... interviewed 1/27. Just hoping I do hear, because I'm interviewing at Duke tomorrow (lol, irony, I know) and it'd be nice to have some pressure off.

Ahhh....I kinda wish I didn't know b/c now I'm nervous and antsy. Good Luck to everyone!

I think I've given up on UNC. My soul dies a little every other monday.

yep-- they definitely met today. there is a doctor in my department and i saw him scurrying off to the meeting. good luck everyone!

They meet kind of late then . . . what time do they make calls until? If their meetings are anything like my meetings at work then I bet they wouldn't be done until about 10pm! Ha!

so any calls made yet?
quickly beginning to lose hope!
good luck all

Congrats. I guess we now know they call pretty late into the night . . .

Yeah another 2 weeks of looking at the clock until that fateful Monday night rolls around. After two years of this I am just ready to get in... I'm really not looking forward to another cycle

Yeah, probably. Though they sometimes call on Tuesdays if you read back in the thread.

Congrats... hopefully we'll hear some more calls before the week is over
Don't think I can go through another agonizing two weeks

I found this info helpful when everybody else posted it, so here goes...
I interviewed on January 26th and was accepted February 23rd at 7.32 PM. OOS.
Good luck everybody.

yes, to answer everyone's questions I interviewed on Jan 7th and was accepted Feb 23rd in state applicant.

congrats
so curious... anyone know how many seats are filled at each of these meetings?

i wouldn't worry about the timeline. it took me a bit over 4 months to hear. there is just no obvious rhyme or reason to the process here. goodluck errrrbody
