GMS stands for Graduate Medical Sciences. It's a division of Boston University School of Medicine. Most of the people posting on this forum are probably Master's of Medical Science (MAMS) students, which is a program within GMS (there are several others, but MAMS is the largest). It's a Master's program designed to help students boost their credentials before applying to medical school (or after applying unsuccessfully) to help increase their chances of acceptance.

Yeah I was somewhat skeptical of those numbers as well - just what I've heard other people talking about. Do you know any specific numbers? I'm kind of curious...
 
I'm so confused, I doubt that's what the background checks are about... I have definitely not interviewed at 17 schools... I think it just sent it to me for every school on AMCAS w/ a background check (not even sure which those were). Or maybe its just a total glitch...

I'm also a GMSII riss, so I'm hoping that good news is forthcoming (and that the # of accepted GMS students hasn't been revised too far downward...)

I'm going to agree with this post on the basis that I have already consented to CBCs for the schools I've been accepted to. BU is the only one participating in this service that I have yet to receive a decision from. I received the CBC email. Hopefully this is good news.

ok now i dont know if i should be expecting an email about background check or a phone call from BU :scared:
 
yeah i got 4 CBC emails... i have 2 acceptances, 1 waitlist, and i have BU pending... i also hope this is good news but i don't want to give myself false hope!
 
Hmm, I never got the certphi email but I got this from AMCAS (as I said, 17 times...):

As you were notified in the AMCAS application, and in an email upon submission of your AMCAS application, you have applied to at least one medical school that is participating in an AMCAS-facilitated national background check service. For a list of medical schools participating in the national background check service, please go to http://www.aamc.org/students/amcas/faq/background.htm. A participating school has now requested that a background check be procured on you via this service, and you will soon receive an email from Certiphi Screening, Inc. that requests that you log into their online system and provide consent for this report to be procured. To ensure that you meet this requirement, please ensure that you have added [email protected] as a trusted email sender.
For additional information, including details regarding the consumer report to be procured, go to our web site at www.aamc.org.

I am assuming this is a different thing than what everyone else is describing?

No, that's the one that everyone received multiples. The Certiphi email came for me about 2.5 hours later.

Okay good, I was so confused. I'm into a few schools that have the check, so I just hope my stupid spam didn't block it before I found it. If I got the email in the morning, do you think the certphi already came?

I haven't gotten the certphi email either - hopefully I didnt delete it from my spam....****...

Nope, didn't interview with him/her. Sorry--I feel a little strange writing the doctor's name here.

I got 19, and I've only been accepted to one school so far (so I got one certiphi email after the 19 AMCAS emails). It's probably just a random error...

I've been accepted to several schools that do CBC, and haven't gotten one of those Certphi (sp?) emails. My guess is Gmail filters out those emails before it even gets into the spam box.

Did you get the initial email from amcas giving you a heads up about the cbc? the email has instructions to make sure that the Certphi email is added to your trusted email sender list. I have gmail and didn't have a problem receiving any of the emails. Otherwise just be patient I guess...as long as the schools you've been accepted to do the cbc it will happen.
 
I've been accepted to three schools that do it and only got two emails, so no worries 🙂
 
It's good to hear that people are still getting interview invites. I was getting worried.

I just called to check on the status of my application and I was told that if I got an complete email everything is fine. But I am sure that even after people are complete files get lost and other random errors occur. How rude.

Congratulations to the accepted! For the rest of us, it looks like more people will get phone calls tomorrow and some of us might get accepted by status page and email next week (according to last year's thread).

right there with ya! i jump each time my phone rings and get mad at whoever it is but BU loll i just gave special ringtones to my fam so i wont yell at them 😛
 
Haha The different ringtones are a good idea! My boyfriend thought it would be funny to call me and make me freak out.. not funny lol

I can't decide if my interviewer is the type to call. Right now I'm just trying to assume I'll be waiting until March to find out the decision.

i must say, talking with him was one of my most enjoyable interviews of the whole season, and he totally sold me on BU... :xf::xf:

No but I did get a chance to speak with him at the end of the day (it was about some joint programs I'm interested in). He's a really neat guy and very genuine.
 
Dr. Witzburg is a big part of why i loved BU!! 😍

i wish i had the chance to interview with him..

I've been complete since 9/15 but still no decision... Anyone else in a similar situation?
 
Got the acceptance call from my interviewer last night!! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting.
 
Got the call from my interviewer this morning! This is my first acceptance so I'm super pumped! :clap:

I'm in the exact same position. I'm hoping my interviewer just isn't calling anyone and I'll find out via status page next week...

I'm in the same exact boat. It means one of 3 things:

1) You will eventually get an acceptance call from your interviewer - it's still early
2) You could be accepted via email/status page without a call, as the call is only an option that the interviewer is given
3) You could be deferred/rejected via email/status page
