Some good news: Of the 26 people indicating they have been accepted on mdapps, 14 indicated they withdrew or were attending another school, only 3 indicated they were attending BU, and 8 did not clearly indicate their choice. So maybe there will possibly be movement here this year?

what i want to know is why do they accept more than the class size, how many more they accept and how SHORT is this short waitlist?

Talking to admissions is like pulling teeth. they are worse than the FBI and CIA combined. Why is there so much secrecy around med app's?

Can't believe I am actually turning BU down, but I send an msg through BU's website and withdraw my application, that should do it right?

They take more than the class size because many people don't want to wait around on the waiting list for months. Since their yield is about the same every year, they can try to get more of the students they originally selected. Otherwise, they would be frantically trying to fill the class and going through the whole waitlist to do so after May 15th.

And I have know idea why these schools are so secretive. I feel like we should be allowed to see how they grade our application throughout the cycle. It seems to be generally the same in most schools too. I thought physicians are supposed to be good at giving bad news, such as you have no chance of getting in.

Because admissions people ARE from CIA, FBI and NSA.

The truth of the matter is that many med schools will accept about 30 to as much as 60 over the number they can take for their final class size knowing a good percentage will attrite out so that they don't have too much waitlist. Then on top of that they may put another 100 to 150 people or so on the waitlist. And maybe only a few of those will get off. This is how it is becoming at my old school. In the olden days at USF the class size which is still 120 used to accept about 150 and then about 100 would drop and 60 would get off the waitlist. Now a days they accept about 180 for a class of 120 with knowledge that enough will drop. This makes it look like their original pics are getting in rather then waitlistess who were second picks.

This is probably similar to how it is at BU in that BU knows the trends of how many traditionally decide to withdraw and so know about how many they can accept and still have minimal waitlist movement. I would not be surprised based on what I do know about how MD admissions works.

It is secret to keep it fair. When you eventually get in you can join the admissions in 4th year and ask them the why but by then its moot point.

That is like saying why is a person's medical records confidential and so much secrecy from their loved ones. Or like saying why don't they tell us how they pick candidates for jobs. Stop reading too much into it. I can see it only being more fair if some people aren't getting an unfair advantage of seeing the intimate details of how they pick people which others wouldn't have. I also think you gotta realize some of what happens in admissions involves an element of bias and subjective factors and they probably don't want you to see what they discuss in what people's perceptions are. Sometimes its better to not know what they are thinking.

Hey guys, most of these comments are mere speculations. Don't let the brain ninjas get to you, and lets all remain optimistic. Btw, how about them Boston Celtics.

My 2 cents:

Some things we are not ment to hear. They need to be honest with each other to make their desicion. I am not saying I like but hey..

And more importantly, in my opinion, BU has been one of the nicer and more accomodating admissions people. Dean Witz emails and letters are thoughtfull and classy despite the mass email. Says a lot about the school and people in my opinion. Earlier this year, these correspondence emails were a breathe of fresh air in a stressfull period. Dealing with 12 thousand apps I think they do a pretty good job.

While my opinion means nothing probably I will say one last thing. Being put on the waitlist does say something about you as an applicant versus being outight rejected doesnt it?

Best of luck to all of you on the wait list. I hope you guys get in somewhere if not BU. :xf::luck:

I agree. Even last year when I got rejected from there, their letter was one of the more polite letters compared to FIU in Fl.

And secondly as someone who has now gone there for grad school and learned from the same professors that teach M1s, I cannot stress to you how phenomenal the professors are. They CARE. They love their jobs. They teach well. They have a good sense of humor and they seem like they really don't have an over inflated ego. And though the auditoriums I don't like, I love how many research centers they have everywhere. And BMC is a good hospital for clinical training.

To those of you who end up there, I wish you well as I think BUSM is a good place for training. Its only real pitfall is its massive cost.

to those of you who go elsewhere, good luck to you as well as you begin your journey into medical training.

believe it or not, all these postings help my stress level. just needed some clarification. I'm just gonna cross my fingers...although i know my chances of getting in is very little, i'm still trying to be positive...best of luck to all who are waiting as well.

Good luck. At least May 15th was today so it begins if there is any. Good luck. 🙂

um.. nope.. just 2 other WL.. 😳....

Well if it gives you any hope my friend last year was on 5 waitlists with no acceptances and she ended up with 4 acceptances off of waitlists. At least one of those will hopefully pan out. Good luck. Just keep praying and hoping for the best and start filling out amcas in case you need to reapply but keep your head up high.

I think BU doesn't follow the May 15 thing...I think the e-mail said they only start taking off the waitlist on June 1.....just to torture us even more!

Really? i talked to the admin and they said they fill in the spots as soon as they open. They dont wait till the 15th to review the applications again.

I think that is true of most schools. The reason that the 15th is special has nothing to do with the adcoms but because that's when most of the people with multiple acceptances will drop for sure since they have no choice but to pick one.

The question though is how much waitlist movement will there be esp. since schools overaccept a certain number.

I just got a call from the office of admissions. I was accepted off the waitlist! Dean Witzberg said that the number of seats available in the class # in the single digits. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! There will be a few more calls going out I'm sure. :luck:🙂

BTW Just realized you are a fellow floridian who was also accepted to my old school for medical school.

But I will tell you that if you are willing to risk the debt, BU is worth it because I can say that the research opportunities, medical training, and innovation in medicine is really seen here.

And the professors are amazing. Good luck. Congratulations to my fellow Floridian. 😀

Hey, so I got an e-mail a while ago saying I would be contacted by the Office of Information Technology with information on how to set up my BU account and e-mail and everything, but I haven't gotten any information on this yet. Has anyone else? I just want to make sure I'm not missing thing I should be doing...

I got the same email, but thus far nothing from IT.

We can represent USF in Boston! 🙂 I really thought I would have to go here (it was my safety school) this year, but I'm so elated that I have the opportunity at BU. Do you know anything about financial aid? Do students usually get enough aid (either through government loans or institutional funds) to cover the full cost of attendance?

You bet I sent a letter of intent! 😀 I sent it a little over a week after my interview.

Hey bnh10, Did you send the letter directly to the Dean or did you upload it on MyApplication?

my BU email is looking good.

my old school has a whack e-mail address...love the @bu.edu

I uploaded it to myapplication, but addressed it to the Dean. He was definitely the one who reviewed my application from the waitlist so I'm sure it was nice to see something personally addressed like that.

I did the same. I sent a letter of intent, a thank you letter, and an update letter. This is getting really frustrating.

I called adcom (the secretary) too, whom I might add is very rude. She basically told me that the class was full and hang up on me mid-sentence. Granted, I love BU but the lady working these phones have to keep it classy.

I KNOW. She is VERY rude. Every time i talk to her, i feel like she hates my guts and wishes me to die or something. I try to be very polite and have legitimate questions. I've talked to other schools and their admission people are very nice and understanding.

Maybe she knows we don't have any chance in attending BU anyway, hence the rudeness. I don't know.. like many previous posts say, the class is already full.
