REJECTED...not even waitlisted...yea i dont even know what number im at in rejections but its def not doing good for my self esteem or future aspirations... 🙁
I'm sorry to hear about your rejection. CCLCM or UP?

For anyone going to the CCLCM second look: Will you guys be looking at apartments/for roommates during the second look?

For current CCLCM/case students: How far in advance should we be looking for housing/do students usually begin leases june or july 1st?

So... if I'm going to be busy the week of Case's second look... is it possible to ask the office if I could come up on a Friday or something, sit in on classes and have my own 'mini' second look? I'm not exactly sure how these things work... but if there are documents talked about/passed out at second look, will those be available even if I didn't attend?

Yeah, just email Christian. We had a prospie here last week doing the same thing.

I don't know what their policy is, but sure, why wouldn't you call the UP office and ask?

Sorry, hitsugaaya. 🙁

You're getting interviews, so your app is obviously reasonably competitive. Have you gotten in somewhere else? Are you waitlisted anywhere? If you are getting rejected post-interview everywhere, you might want to look into practicing your interviewing skills. If you're on a bunch of waitlists right now, like I told pelliper, it's too soon to give up. A lot of people hang on to multiple acceptances until May 15, so a lot of waitlist movement happens at the end of May.

Hope you get some good news soon. :xf:

For current CCLCM/case students: How far in advance should we be looking for housing/do students usually begin leases june or july 1st?
I showed up in Cleveland on the evening of July 1, signed a lease for an apartment by mid-afternoon on July 2 after just driving around for a few hours and calling numbers posted outside the buildings, and started school a couple of days later. It was absolutely no problem finding an apartment, though you may not want to leave things quite as last minute as I did if you're not comfortable.

I actually started my lease on August 1 and stayed with someone else for a month, although I could have moved in the day I signed the lease if I had wanted to. The problem was on my end, because none of my stuff was in Cleveland yet. 😛

I'm on the waitlist, so not nearly as much, although I'll still be glad to make new friends. If I do get accepted, that's what Facebook groups are for, right? 🙂

Haha, that's good to hear. Did you manage to get a place close by or do people end up having to be much less picky if they do it last minute?

You drove? Or bummed a ride? Because if I recall, someone wanted a new car...2.5 more weeks until your hot new wheels come. 😉

I'm about 1.5 miles from CCLCM and 1 mile from the Case med school building.

It's very easy to find apartments in the Case area. If anyone is interested, my neighbors are graduating and moving out of their one-bedroom apartment in May. So if anyone wants to see my apartment and you like it, there will definitely be some vacancies. I really like this building, and I've lived here all four years. The landlord is a tad eccentric, but he keeps the building up well and it's very convenient.

Nope, I rented a car because I flew to Cleveland. For the first few weeks after I got here, I literally had nothing here with me but a couple of suitcases with clothes and stuff.

I will be apartment shopping that weekend after official events (Sat & Sun). I am planning on being settled no later than a week or two before the start of classes.

Hot new wheels or new hot wheels? 😀

hot new wheels of course!

because i didn't get cclcmer a hotwheels car. you'll all see on revisit weekend.

how much is that 1bdrm apt by the way? (I'd move in July 1st though, not end of May) it'd be interesting to live near the Great CCLCMer and have NOT-EGGPLANT potlucks.

Has anyone not heard from CCLCM yet?

I haven't asked my parents but they haven't told me anything... so I'm going to assume they didn't get mail from CCLCM.

Is anyone else also in the same boat with no news?

well i just got rejected today so maybe no news is good news in this case.

yeh same here, high hold since january but no news yet :-/

Sorry to hear that, hitsugaaya and TheFreak! 🙁 Reminds me that I should be happier about my hold...but I doubt a Case wait list (anyone heard of one yet?) would move fast enough by May 15 for me to slip in. Doesn't seem that Case is a school that many ppl would decline an acceptance. Grr.

I know this isn't much consolation to some of you, but I will be withdrawing my post-interview hold(/rejection? from the looks of that email) from Case when I don't feel too lazy in writing out that email to Christian and Dr. Mehta. It will go out soon...just have my plate busy reviewing a paper--I'm about to be published!

(Not withdrawing from CCLCM.)

Actually I think they accept a little over double their class size (not sure exact numbers, just what I remember), so there's hope
Mmmmmm I keep hearing ppl say that...so what does that actually mean, what if more students than the class size can hold are left after everyone who withdraws is gone?

Wow...I wonder what they would do if they ended up with more accepted students than spots. That would really blow.

Wow...I wonder what they would do if they ended up with more accepted students than spots. That would really blow.

It's probably pretty unlikely since most schools would err on the side of caution. If you don't have enough students, you can always pull some off the waitlist, but if you have too many... it's more difficult. 🙂

They only accept their class size or like two over. Then as people withdraw, they pull from the waitlist. That way, they send out more acceptances than spots, but still never overbook their class.

That's just not true. For example, Ohio State has already accepted 390 applicants for like 210 spots. Every year, after people start withdrawing, they end up taking 30-50 people off the waitlist.

It is true for CCLCM, but not true for UP.

Same here. Haven't received a letter yet about a waitlist or rejection..

CCLCMer, would you happen to know how many people on the waitlist received the second look invite? Just wondering how low I might be on the waitlist, if waitlisted...

Thanks🙂

yes- I also didn't receive a rejection letter so hopefully its a wait list 😀

So I've been accepted and I'm almost positive that I'll be attending. I know it may seem early, but how does one go about getting housing? I'm not going to be available to go back to Second Look, and I'm from out of state so not at all familiar with the area. I know that I'd like to live as close to the school as possible (due to laziness) which I've been told would mean I'd live in Little Italy? Taking a look at Craigslist, I'm just a little confused about what that would mean. Thanks for any help!

I'm wondering the same thing. Any current students or people familiar with the area able to give some advice on apartment hunting? I want to live within walking distance

Hmm, a quick look finds this advice... Areas Near The Medical School The City of Cleveland Heights, where most students live, has three neighborhoods that are attractive to students (because of the proximity of a grocery store, restaurants, and other shops), known as Coventry. These areas are a 15-25 minute walk to school. The Cleveland Heights Housing Office Shaker Heights is about a 10-minute drive to the medical school. The apartments are comparable to those in Cleveland Heights. The Shaker Square Area Development Corp., 11811 Shaker Blvd. Suite 206, Cleveland OH 44120, (216) 421-2100, open 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, maintains a current register of available rentals in the Shaker Square neighborhood. There is a city bus that runs from Shaker Square to University Circle. The RTA Rapid Transit Blue Line and Green Line run between Shaker Square and downtown. The Shaker Heights Housing Office, 3450 Lee Road, Shaker Heights, OH 44120, (216) 491-1330, maintains a roster of apartments and homes for rent in Shaker Heights, which is about a 15-minute drive from the law school. There are two Rapid Transit lines from Shaker Heights to downtown. Students also find apartments right in the University Circle area. The Hessler Court/East 115th Street area offers very reasonably-priced apartments. The Triangle, (216) 791-5959, located in the heart of University Circle, is a 5-minute walk from the medical school. Also nearby are the Waldorf Tower Apartments (about a 15-minute walk), (216) 791-8547, and Kensington Place (about a 10-minute drive), (216) 691-1944.

So it looks like the Triangle for us? 5 minute walk from the med schools orgasmic.

Hey CCLCMer, any idea if all the most recent letters went out yet?

Little Italy is really, really close if we're talking UP.

Also, how feasible is it not to have a car?
That really depends on how many barriers you want to have between you and your nearest supply of food. If you live in little Italy, you're within a mile of the nearest grocery store (the small Dave's on Cedar), but 20-30 minutes (by car) out from Costco and a 20-30 minute bus ride out from Wal-Mart/Home Depot/Borders/the bigger Dave's, for which the return bus is once every 50 minutes or so ($2.25, 1-way). However, a number of students go to grocery stores in groups, with enough vehicularly-enabled people to make that feasible. I have a car.

You can live in the Triangle if you want, but it's pretty much the most expensive arrangement around ($822 minimum for a 340sqft studio, I think--they just raised the rates on me), with almost free covered parking ($25 one-time fee), and water/electricity/heat included. Add a cat for $Iforget one-time and $25/mo. There's also a monthly trash fee of $10, but I can't remember if they're leaving that separate or rolling into rent. I think they might be. Washer/dryer not included--$1.25 per machine in-building. Studios do not have dishwashers, though I believe units bigger than that do. Refrigerator, microwave provided. Workout facilities in both Triangle 1 and Triangle 2. New amenities for the Triangle for you guys: pool tables, foosball, and pingpong in Triangle 2.).

Also, re: transit time, it's not really a 5-minute walk unless it's an off-peak traffic time (crossing Mayfield is your major barrier), which is to say before 7:30AM M-F or during the weekend. At minimum, I'd say 7 minutes, unless you run (also doable, but bottlenecked by crossing traffic), with 12 minutes at maximum. 15 minutes to walk through the hospital in the event of rain/cold. 10 minutes to skate @7amish, assuming you wait for crosswalks and are carrying a ridiculous 20lbs load (not sure why I do that).

But I do enjoy living there.

I'm told that if you're choosing between a Waldorf (aka the Waldorm--it's just up the hill) studio and Triangle studio, you should pick the Triangle.

(Shaker's a bit far. Most people live in Cleveland Heights, with a large contingent in and around Coventry/Euclid Heights/Overlook.)

hey Myuu,

thanks for all your help. One more question, is there parking at the hospital/medical school? If so, how much does it cost? I am trying to figure out if it's worth it to live somewhere further off but with cheaper rent + driving cost, or living somewhere within walking distance but more expensive.

thanks!

As I recall, on-campus parking in lot 53 was an astronomically large number of dollars.😳

is anyone going to start a cclcm facebook group? 😀 (i don't want to)

i also withdrew from my hold at case. hopefully it helped someone here. :luck:

haha i was thinking of doing it the other day...how about i'll make it if you join it?

Is anyone else getting antsy about them making the waitlist? I really hope I'm on it, and that there's movement soon (or better yet, that some people will be accepted at the end of the month, but I know that's wishful thinking). I'm especially worried because my significant other got into grad school at Case, so the outcome of this affects more than just me.

Yesssss

haha, i already made it...both of you should join so im not the only lonely member

Well, I hope Dean Franco lets me join! :luck: Someone was taken off the waitlist the other day, but I presume most of the movement is coming only after May. Does CCLCM also have the May 1st date like the UP since it also starts pretty early?

I wonder when CCLCMer will join us.

By the way, can you privatize the group such that it doesn't show our names in the members list? I still want to stay as anonymous as possible. 🙂

I hope so too! I like fluffy rabbits and I'm assuming you do too. :luck: By the way, if you google "fluffy rabbit," a lot of the images on the first page are of EXTREMELY fluffy rabbits. To the point of not-cuteness.

We have an April 15 deadline instead of May 15, so I would assume there's more waitlist movement after April 15.

i just made the group closed, that should do it, right?

I guess so, as long as other people can still join it. It looks awfully lonely...🙁

You know what. It doesn't matter. It's not like I've been doing crack, growing/selling pot in my backyard and firebombing buildings in my spare time, then posting about it on SDN, so I have no fears of Dean Franco trying to identify me and taking away my acceptance.

Anyone else on their spring break and bored like me?

i just made the group closed, that should do it, right?

You should have the option to make it secret, which will hide the a) existence of the group and b) the names of its members.👍

ok, i think as long as its closed people can't see who are members, but they can still search for the group and request to join it...haha if i make it secret than there will only be 3 of us

May 1st date like the UP since it also starts pretty early?
May1? So does that mean there might be superquick movement between May 1 and May 15? That'd rock! 14 days between then and the 15th and having to tell my other school...hopeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeful!

I think they said the UP hold list was going to be reviewed at the end of March. The end of March is creeping near...*fidget fidget squirm*
