😕 I got the same email this morning.

pls don't feed the troll

Edit: this is why I LOVE sdn... so many people to have fun with. so many people who take your jokes seriously 😉
I hope my maturity kicks in before interviews...

Quick question! For "end date" in activities do you just say current if you're currently doing it? Sorry if this is a silly question but Davis had like really specific instructions regarding this stuff ,so let me know what you all did!

I just checked my saved pdf and I put the tentative end date of the activity on my app. I think if you estimate in a reasonable way that should be ok. Schools are aware that the future is uncertain so they won't hold you against it unless you do not represent facts clearly as they stand right now.

I put May 2010 as the end date for everything that I plan to continue doing during the next academic year, since presumably I will be leaving for medical school next summer. 🙂

Now, the “when were you in the minority” question can be about anything. I don’t know how some people ended up thinking that it was referring exclusively to race/ethnicity lol. Personally, I think writing about race/ethnicity or a disagreement of some sort would be a trap of triteness if you don’t have something exceptionally remarkable to talk about. If you read about what Hopkins is looking for on the admissions site, you’ll see that the school really prides itself in taking “unusual” people. That stuff isn’t just promotional fluff, so try really hard to be different and creative. I wrote about my experiences completing two very dissimilar majors in undergrad, talking about how I was a bit of an outsider to both communities since I didn’t fully belong to either.

Good luck all! The whole process starts out really slow and then moves really fast. Before you know it, you’ll be anxiously waiting for med school to start and looking back🙂

I had writer's block for like a month on that one.

You sir, are a genius who has given me a great idea for how to wrap this thing up. 👍

for those of you who still aren't complete, i have gmail and my "complete" email got sent to spam. have no idea why considering the other hopkins emails from the same sender didn't get trashed.

so far i have loved gmail in this application process! i've been labeling emails from med schools as 'applications' and now gmail automatically does it, even though i haven't made a filter or anything to tell it to do so.

when does hopkins interview? they are rolling, no?

anybody still waiting on a complete email?

Got the complete email today, after having gotten the secondary received notice 08/06. Two week turnaround.

Oooooo hopefully I will get a complete email soon. Got the received notice on same day, Aug 6th. I'm uber curious to see how this application goes. :xf:

By "secondary received email," are you two referring to the one that begins with "Thank you for submitting your on-line application to the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine?"

no, they sent another one that was:

We have received your secondary application. You will be notified if any items are needed to complete your application. We will send an e-mail when your application is complete and ready for review by the Committee on Admission.

i also got that one on 8/6... and still no "complete" email. le sigh.

I mailed my paper copy over a week ago, but have yet to receive the "we have received your secondary application" email. Then I have to wait a few more weeks for the "complete email," it sounds like. Seems like JHU is the slowest school I'm applying to as far as processing applications go.

Try your patience with Columbia, which hasn't even started sorting through secondaries.. Even worse, OHSU and Emory haven't sent out their secondaries.

For the second essay question (If you interrupted your college education for a semester or longer, please describe what you did during that time), does a gap between graduation and post-bac courses count as an "interruption?" The first question already asks what I've been doing since graduation, but I'm not sure if I should be expanding on that in this second question, or if that is only for interruptions in a 4-year degree.

I wouldn't repeat information you've already provided in essay prompt about what you've been doing since graduation. I think I'd just interpret the question literally and answer if you have gaps in your 4 year college degree.

ok thanks. 🙂

Just take a look at Rosalind Franklin (Chicago Medical School) and then this will seem much better. Moreover, Schools like Harvard, Penn State have all taken up to 3 weeks to notify me of my 'complete' status, so I guess JHU isn't that bad. This past week was the school of medicine orientation and I think classes begin soon so now they might pick up pace with processing apps. We should be hearing back from them soon.

how can we "indicate degree of involvement' in the limited space provided for listing our activities? Do they mean "hours worked per week" to be equivalent to "degree of involvement i.e. the more hours you work per week, the more you are involved?

I thought the same thing, lame choice of words.... but yeah, hours per week is probably what they're talking about.

Can I add activities in John Hpkins Supp that are NOT listed on my AMCAS? because I only choose the "most important" ones for AMCAS. Since I have space on Hopkins supp, why not utilize it?

I would do it.... not sure if there's a right or wrong but it's probably fine.

What is considered "senior faculty" in terms of JHU's LOR requirements? Hired lecturer probably would not hack it, but what about assistant professors? I asked another applicant at my school and he said he took it to mean a tenured professor. I don't think the assistant profs who wrote my letters are tenured yet

That's tough. Technically "senior faculty" only refers to someone with tenure, though I feel like JHU just wants someone with some degree of authority to write or cosign your letters...so for sure, not a TA. Did you get all of your letters from assistant professors?

My 2 science letters were from assistant professors who taught upper division biology courses

this should be fine I'm sure. at my school, only profs who do research get the "Full Professor" status. All others are "Lecturers," even if they are there to stay. I can't imagine these people would be looked down upon.

i just submitted my JHU secondary. However, after I clicked on the button that says "downloadable forms" i could not find my application in PDF version. Does anyone else have this problem?

yea I just sent them the pdf that I saved before submission. According to my knowledge I don't think there is a way to get a pdf after submission.

oh ***! what if i didnt save it? did anyone else run into this same problem with the PDF file of the secondary not showing up to be printed?

come on boys you can figure this out. after you login, click "application for admission"
then click the print icon on the bottom left of the screen. choose adobe then you get the pdf.

ohhh!!! thanks so much! i almost have to call them for the stupidest reason ever.

In one of the questions, it asks for "extracurricular, hobby, travel"

Travel doesn't really make sense to me...do they want a list of every time you've gone out of country and for what reason (family, vacation, work, etc.)?

Anyone know what "travel" includes?

I think it's travel as interesting experience/hobby. Not every time you left your house, but I travel a lot for work and whenever I can for pleasure, so I listed some of the more interesting experiences.

Thanks! I don't think I'll list any traveling things - they are already evident in my AMCAS activities anyways.
