Yikes - you guys are making me nervous! I interviewed on 10/8 and I'm hoping to hear this week.

i interviewed that day too. i think they said we were the first dates for the new bundle, so we're in the lot with everyone else from mid-october

didn't someone from the 10/8 week already find out? i could be wrong 😕

has hopkins started sending out rejections or have they stopped sending interviews yet? anyone also know if there is a way to check on your status?

many thanks,

phialpha

yes, no, and no 🙂

People from the 10/15 and 10/21 weeks have found out they are accepted. After some post history digging and napping, it seems that real acceptances have all gone out at once (minus pharaoh). So I'm not really too hopeful. I thought this interview was one of my best too. 🙁

even for 10/1 completion?

any idea of when theyll send interviews til?

i have no idea. But honestly, there were people complete way before you that have yet to hear a word from Hopkins. No one really knows what the reasoning is. One can only speculate. I'm guessing though that if you've heard nothing, than it's just that. They haven't made up their mind yet. Because if they were sure about a decision, they would definiitely let you know asap since they have so many applications

so you are saying there are no more interviews coming out?

wow congrats to those of you who just got accepted!

the wait is so much more painful that I thought it would be - i interviewed on the last date in October and still I'm feeling nervous.

Also, NotSur - I'm with you on this one. JHU was my second interview, maybe I shouldn't have made it so early...

Thats not true... even from this year alone it looks like it took 2 days to make the calls. Lets just all keep our fingers crossed for tomorrow. :xf:

There was a reason a said "real acceptances" as opposed to just "acceptances". Not everything posted on here is truth. But I really do hope you are right. Maybe Director Mazza and Dean Hicks split them up. I sure hope so.

So, I did some digging through last year's thread. And not all calls for each set went out at the exact same time. I can't find a pattern at all though. For instance, two people interviewed on the same day, both accepted, one found out two weeks later than the first. Also, two people, one on 10/10, one on 10/9, both accepted, the 10/10 person found out 3 days before the 10/9 person.

So sorry for my melodramatics. Yes, I still think that one acceptance reported here is fake, but don't give up yet, peeps. 🙂

Congrats for all the new acceptances!

So I called the office to see what they'd say about my application, and apparently I haven't been reviewed yet. My committee meeting is next Tuesday. Weird that someone who interviewed a week after me got in already. Who knows how these things work? Oh well, at least I know something. :xf:

Happy to hear that you can breathe a little bit now!

Maybe the reason you hadn't been reviewed yet is because they haven't received an evaluation from your interviewer?

the people who interviewed you present you to the commitee, so that could create a holdup.

yay I was so upset to see that you hadn't been called yet. I got my fingers crossed for ya! Hopefully we'll be classmates next yr =)

For what month if you don't mind me asking?Dec? Or are they scheduling Jan already like some schools? Thanks!

Late December.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, probably the last December date. They only interview on Thursdays and Fridays, and I believe the ones after mine will be all holidays.

Complete for FOUR months.....

Does anybody who interviewed already and heard back remember how many people the admissions director said they typically waitlist each year? I remember they said they only took 3 off last year, but didn't they say that was an unusual year?

thanks!

Last year was VERY odd... so don't let it discourage you. Mazza said more people decided to stay than normal (maybe the economy??)

More likely the brand new facilities for medical students...

if you interviewed on a thursday in earlish-mid october, letters were sent out yesterday. if you werent called, most likely a waitlist/rejection.

+1 Seems like the amazing new building and the most radical curriculum change in 20 years, which included the move to true P/F. I feel like they'd probably take >3 this year, but it's impossible to tell if last year was a total anomaly or the beginning of a new trend of a higher "yield."

The building was really the nicest thing I've seen, ever. The architecture just made you feel really important at all times. Very seductive.

guys don't get swayed by the look of the buildings! if that was the contest, im pretty sure mayo would win hands down.

Liked Hopkins better than Mayo, with regards to space for students, as opposed to overall hospital awesomeness. And, I don't think any of us are being overly swayed by swankiness. I just think that wonderful facilities + an interesting new curriculum likely provided a winning combination for last year's acceptees.

they were playing up their new cirriculum a bit too much imo. all schools are pretty much the same. some just do more pbl than others.

While this may be generally true, I do believe it is a real departure from what JHU had before, so they may be a bit overly proud of that.

does hopkins do much pbl? i don't remember... when i visited the students were all kind of hazy on what exactly the new curriculum entailed.

Not really, it seems like they do a hybrid lecture + small group thing. They now have a longitudinal clinical experience that lasts about 1 year, they start the first year with anatomy in 7 weeks + clinical practice class, then move on to foundations classes (biochem, etc.). Year two is systems based. Seems like they've integrated more selectives, and more public health. Can someone who actually is a student correct me? This is just what I pieced together from 1st years, 2nd years, and a student on the curriculum committee.

For those who have stayed in Reed, is there wireless internet? If not, do you know if they provide ethernet cables like Wash U? Also, how many towels do they provide and is there anything you would have brought extra while staying there? Thanks!

Yes, wireless. They give you a hand towel, washcloth, and bath towel. No toiletries like at WashU though, so bring those.
