Student hosting program might be up in the next few days, I'm guessing.
Congrats to everyone who is getting interviews? When were ya'll complete?
Mailed in my secondary July 5th, so sometime shortly after. Interviewing on 9/17! Pretty excited about SUNY 🙂 Would probably live in Williamsburg or west of Prospect to take advantage of IS tuition!
**Here's to hoping they show love to us Kansans!**![]()

Do you already live in NY? If not you will not be receiving in state tuition. All SUNYs require that you reside at a NYS resident for an entire year before the date of matriculation. Since Downstate starts now I think it's too late
don't live in williamsburg unless you want to spend an hour getting to class every day.
Takes about 10 minutes via Subway. Just got back from Brooklyn touring the SUNY area. Two transfers, so may be slow at night...but I'm sure I'll have things to read
Better than living near SUNY (not that great of an area in my opinion) or living in dorms and paying OOS during year 2. 😀
Anyone else have thoughts on this? I've only visited Brooklyn a handful of times.

all these NY locations are confusing me.
what part of williamsburg are you in??? i can't even fathom this amazing 10 minute trip you speak of!
oh, and if you want trendy but not as nauseating as w'burg... park slope. if you want affordable and a bit less nice... ditmas park.
I have a 37R mcat, 3.43/3.14 c/s gpa, tons of great ECs, should i bother applying here?

Invite yesterday (9/01)
OOS, 3.7+ GPA; 35+ MCAT; complete 7-15 days ago
Good luck to everyone!
Also, what's the best way to get to Downstate from Penn Station? How much would a cab cost?

Beware if you opt for the 2 train from Penn Station...
During rush hour, the 2 routes sometimes gets changed to the 3 route (New Lots Avenue-bound). It happens way too often though. Make sure you're on a Flatbush Avenue-bound 2 train. Or else you'll end up somewhere in Crown Heights.
So, take the train very early! I know I will!
I live in NYC, in fact a 20 min bus ride from Dwnste. Ditmas Park is very nice, in fact, it's like a mini-Park slope. That being said, I have lived here for too long and need to get out. Even the dorms are a welcome change. For newcomers though, it's fantastic. I would love a cheap apt nearby.oh, and if you want trendy but not as nauseating as w'burg... park slope. if you want affordable and a bit less nice... ditmas park.
So conferring the map, it seems that I can take the 2 train all the way down to Winthrop Street (is that how you spell it?); however to be safe should I get off at Navilles (again, maybe wrong spelling), and re-take another 2-train down to Winthrop (Flatbush-bound train)?

JnCalv: Yes, the 2 to Winthrop is the correct stop. If you are arriving from Penn Stn, take the "downtown" aka Bklyn/Flatbush bound train. Not so tough.
Take the subway, no cab. Cabs are too expensive and time consuming. Just hop on the train a bit early to show up early, Dwnste is only two blocks away from the Winthrop stn. Also, I haven't heard of the switch either. It must have been a one-time thing.
You can always check out schedule changes on the MTA website.
It seems you have nothing to worry about, it'll just go a bit slower as you pass the Fulton stn:
yo just let these mother****ers take the cab. i love the cab drivers in nyc. split a fare or something. applicants from colorado are not gonna be switching lines
From Bedford. Take G train, transfer to the 2/5 and get off at SUNY. Maybe 15 minutes. I didn't time it.
As someone who has lived in Brooklyn for the last 5 years I can tell you that the G train is neck and neck with the JMZ for the the least consistent service in New York. You will rue the day that you decided to live somewhere that requires you to commute on it.

So I have the interview lined up, but now my status page has an additional notification:
X [NOT] Additional Information Received | Comment: Des. Non-Med Comm. Svs
Anyone know what that is?
lol i love how this thread has turned into a discussion about the nyc subway system and neighborhoods in bklyn.

How long did it take for you guys to receive the secondary? I've applied here for about 3 weeks now and I still haven't received it, is it normal?
just go to the website and send it in, why are you waiting?!?
What website? They never sent me an email saying they received my primary.

[Only if this applies to you] If you are not from the New York City metropolitan area (Five Boroughs), describe what personal experiences prepare you to live and study in New York City, and what will be your personal support system?

They basically want to know how you're going to cope with living in such a big city, which can be overwhelming especially if you don't have a support system in place already. Like Elmo said, though, just point to any similar life experiences you've had, how you succeeded there and/or what you learned from the situation.
In my case, I talked about how I spent a semester in London without knowing anybody, and was able to be successful forming relationships with other students there. I also mentioned that I would be looking for a church, which would help me build a social 'base'. Good luck!
