Congrats Ricegrad! First, but certainly not your last!

Just interviewed on Thursday and I love Texas A & M. I saw a baby delivered in the clinical simulation center, pretty damn cool. Anybody here interview last thursday.

I was there last thursday! I liked it, I only wish we could have seen the anatomy lab, and had the opportunity to speak to more current students.

Yeah I know, I was going over everything in my head and that is one thing I wish we got to see. If you get accepted, what track would you do? --2+2 or 4

So, I turned in my secondary pretty late, and according to the status update page, I am listed as COMPLETE (not yet been UNDER REVIEW). Do you guys think I could call and ask what cycle/submission dates they are currently reviewing so I could have a better idea when mine will be reviewed? It is just so late... do I even have a chance at this point?

I would probably like to stay in College Station/Bryan for the basic science years, but would definately rather go Scot and White for the last two years. Not to put down St. Joseph's or anything, but Scot and White has a lot more opportunities in several different areas of medicine.

I just received an email from Filo saying that TAMU SOM will be sending out acceptances via email starting the week of Nov 16th.

I turned in my secondary on Setp 18, but my MCAT score didn't come in until Oct 15 so my status didn't go into COMPLETE until Oct 15. About a week after that, it said Under Review, and I just receive an interview invite yesterday.
When did you turn in your secondary?

I was 'complete' on September 30th... now I'm really thinking that I should call...

Yeah they fill out their class twice via pre-match they said at our interview

Did you personally email him about this? Why did he specifically send it just to you? I don't doubt you, just wondering if I should have received this email too.

I was complete September 30th, also, and have been under review for about 3 weeks. No interview, yet. Do you think there is any possibility they will throw me an interview?

I sent him an email wondering if the acceptances would be sent out on the 15th since it is a sunday

I was under review for two months then got an interview so yes!!!

Ok, I was about to call the admissions office but decided to check my status one more time... I am finally under review...

Hopefully I'll hear something in the next few weeks...

I'm starting to look over the school and info for my interview. I'm getting alot of negative feedback from people when talking about A&M's med school. Anyone have the time to give some of the top positives for attending this school? This is a serious request, been looking over their website etc, just curious to others thoughts on the school itself and scores, etc. Any takers?

ill throw in my two cents, based on my interview experience. when i left for my trip to temple to interview, i was really leery about it, not only had i heard not-so-stellar things about A&M but, being from ttu, i felt a little bit dirty about going down to interview with them. however, it was probably one of my better interview experiences. i loved temple, it reminds me of my hometown. scott and white is awesome, and i like the new curriculum that A&M has implemented. the people there were really friendly (though i havent encountered someone who isnt friendly at a med school interview). I also like that they have a couple of smaller campuses like round rock for some one on one time in clinical years. i cant remember much else off the top of my head, but i know i went into the interview day kinda soured at the whole thing and left thinking that it really is a place i could stand to spend 4 years. all in all i was impressed.

however, i would really not want to spend time in college station. thats just me though. and also, no one laughed at my awesome joke about dr. scott and dr. white 😡

hope that helps. probably doesnt. but whatever i had a good time there.

How long did everyone have to wait to get an interview invite once their application stated "under review"? THANK YOU!

I was actually only under review for only a week before I received an interview invite two days ago. My MCAT score didn't come in until Oct 15. And my stats are mediocre.

I went under review July 7th, I believe, and didn't get an interview invite until the end of October. So about 3 months!

How do you guys think one person waits a week and others wait 2-3 months? Especially if stats are similar? Maybe they have to go through apps faster now since interview season is coming to a close?

i dont know if many people are actually under review for that long. for me, i was complete in early august/late july and didnt even go under review until the middle of september, and was under review for pretty close to a week. idk, i may be wrong, but thats how it worked for me.

My guess is that some of us unofficially go under 'pre-interview hold' and are re-reviewed later in the season.

No way of confirming that this is the case, but it's just my guess.

just got an invite today for dec 10th. SO happy!

someone earlier was talking about tracks....-2, +2, 4
what is that?

Hey Congratz on the interview! When were you verified and when did you submit your secondary? Also, how long were you in the Under Review status before you received the interview?

Want to really get an interview here and time is running out 🙁 Good Luck on Dec 10th!

I was verified in the middle of august. i submitted my secondary on the last day..i think it was september 31. i became under review this tuesday.

good luck to you. its not over.

So...in case you might not know pre-match is around the corner.....lol just playing....kinda nervous/excited/am I a nerd because I'm excited to play Call of Duty modern warfare tonight!!!

i'll pitch in as well. i interviewed recently, and beforehand i was kind of weary and not very optimistic about going there (i interviewed in college station). the interview day was pretty good, with a few bad parts (like one useless presentation, etc)

some positive feedback:

- in many of the associated hospitals (such as in round rock and college station) you get a lot of time with attending physicians as a med school student, because there are no (or very few) residents that are also competing for the attendings' attention
- the match list from last year looked good! i saw couple (like 4 or 5) students place into residencies at Mayo Clinic (which is a big deal) along with couple other top-notch programs.
- the dean of admissions is pretty cool and really helpful.
- relatively small class (compared to other texas schools) of 150 students, and it get smaller when people break up for the different campus programs (like 20 - 30 per each campus program) so a "family" atmosphere
- if you choose to do the years in temple, or electives in corpus christi/round rock/houston, texas a&m covers housing and food (you only have to cover transportation costs)
- it is cheap (as with all texas schools) in state below 10k, out of state around 20k i believe
- simulation facility at texas a&m is nice (4,000 sq ft) with some SIM manikins, and they are building a huge one in round rock (like 27,000 sq ft)
- college station hospital has 1 (and getting 1 more) da vinci robots for surgery

hope that helps! for me, the negative parts were:
- college station (not a big fan, but that's because im more of a city person)
- the clinical affiliations are not as "big, fancy, and sparkly" as other places, such as the Texas Medical Center
- lack of strong research (although they're doing better on that in programs like neuroscience and stuff)

👍 exactly how I feel

I agree too. Though I come from a big city, I have no qualms against College Station. Pretty much has everything you need, without the headaches of traffic and costs of living in a major city, and it can be relatively quiet. Really reasonable driving distance to all the major cities in Texas, too. Plus, TAMUHSC has the 2+2 options if you don't want to stay in CS.

Just as an aside, traffic in CS can get really crappy. There are LOTS of students in a small town. They are working on it and expanding the major streets quickly, but in my experiences (5 years there) traffic is MUCH worse there than it ever is in Lubbock (where I am now) or The Woodlands - the only two other places I've lived with any sort of traffic at all. Obviously, this doesn't compare to downtown Houston at 5pm, but the traffic there sucks for a small place.

That being said, I loved College Station. Like Luckyduck said it is basically everything you need and very close to all the major Texas cities. 👍 I'd go back in a heartbeat. I think you would all be pleasantly surprised if you ended up there.

All is quiet on the A&M front. I just spoke to the student affairs office and they said that they will send out offers "some time next week." Hang in there everyone.

Thanks for the update. I know not to look out for that one now!

Good point. I haven't been to CS in a few years... and Houston traffic makes me want to tear my hair out everyday!

Good to know about the prematch... good luck everyone :xf:

when i went to the interview, filo said they will give out notices (of acceptance) to people this coming monday via email for those that emailed up until this week (nov 12).

then they have i think 2 more rounds of notifications, both in december (mid and end). correct me if im wrong, but i think thats what i heard during interview day.

I haven't... I wonder if they're gonna wait until 5 pm.

i dunno. i emailed amanda watkins-borth and she said today so hopefully soon!!!😕

Interviewed 11/12 and Filo said they would send out offers today... haven't heard from anyone yet about getting in.

Just out of curiousity, when did you e-mail Amanda Watkins-Borth? I was wondering if maybe something had delayed them in the process.
