It seems as though the WL is moving at least as well as last year--maybe even better. But it may be an artifact in that we have some very dedicated people in this thread whereas I do not believe there was in previous years.

EDIT: I'm an idiot. I take back part of what I said. Last year's thread was actually better (in terms of participation) than this year's thread. It's hard to tell if it's moving any faster because they had a lot more people on it and a lot more acceptances. They moved to the middle tier waitlist on 5/19 and the lower tier sometime in July.

EDIT 2: And I just noticed how the WL from last year at this time looks VERY similar to this year.

On 5/13 they had less people under accepted and two less people on high tier. I think we can expect at least a few more people to tell us they've been accepted by 5/15, so I wouldn't be surprised if they switch to middle tier by the end of the month. Nothing new really, they can only tell you so much regarding WL activity. What they told me is that they are still in the top 1/3 of list and can't tell us how far in that third they have gotten. They are continuously extending offers and that we can expect some more movement around the 15th. Also speculated that they will/might dip into middle 1/3 at some point. You should check out the buffalo waitlist thread for 2008 or 2007 - they had 14 and 22 pages of postings by the end of the season!

Dang. I hope since we have so few pages at this point, it means people are less interested in Buffalo than in previous years. (horrible thing to say since I love the school, but hey I really want to get in!) In fact, in 2007 the thread WASN'T 22 pages, it was 33 pages because the thread was split.

So far we're moving a lot faster than 2007 and probably faster than 2008. But I can't tell if we're moving faster than 2009. Since 2007 they've made it to the middle tier. I really doubt any of you on the upper tier have a thing to worry about. But the middle tier is a mixed bag... In 2008 it seemed like they took a good chunk out of it and in 2009 they got all them. 2007 they hardly got any of them, but I think that's the worst case scenario (and unlikely since it looks like we're moving a lot faster so far).

The lower tier is extremely unlikely to get an acceptance. 🙁

EDIT: No wait, 2007 was 39 pages! And they took a darn good chunk out of the middle that year too even though it was moving very slowly.

I've been doing some serious sifting through the really old buffalo waitlist threads (oldest I could find was 2003 I believe), and there are a couple of interesting trends worth noting:

-if the waitlist goes through the top 1/3 by the end of june, it typically dips into the bottom 1/3 before school starts
-2007 and 2008 were pretty bad years for the waitlist - it only went into the mid 1/3, but the other years dipped into the bottom 1/3
-this year seems to be the only year were waitlisters from the middle 1/3 were pulled off before those in the top 1/3
 
Ill add myself to the list. Bottom third for me, I called the admissions office and they said I have roughly a 20% chance of getting in. Thats higher than I thought but I am still not going to get my hopes up.

Thanks Annihilatorpro, Lets hope they enter the mid 1/3 soon (in a week or so), and hopefully we'll have us another great wl year.

According to this post, they accepted 95% of the waitlist in 2002, which is just a phenomenal amount. I don't know how much weight we can put in comparing this year to those from many years past, but at least we know it's certainly possible for massive waitlist movement.

It doesn't even need to happen within the next week. As long as it happens by the end of the month they'll probably get through the majority of the middle tier.

ACCEPTED! Found out by status check early in the morning. Sent one letter of update back in late March. Now to decide between schools 😀

Does anyone know how long we have to decide between schools if accepted after the May 15th deadline?
 
Hey hoping! Congrats! I would wait for your official letter/e-mail from Mr. Rosso. He'll give you an official time-frame. I think right now it's 2 weeks. By the end of June, when phone calls start, you have from the time he calls you until he leaves the office at the end of that day. Either way, it will take me less than a millisecond to decide, lol 🙂 Good luck with you decision!

Also, regarding the top 4 (now) people being accepted, they don't always go exactly in order of number. I mean usually they stay in roughly the same order, but if they have 3 people from Cali and a person from Buffalo fourth down the line,who they know wants to stay in Buffalo and will quickly accept, they're going to offer the Buffalonian.

And, the top 2 on our list, Paiger and Medmad, may want to call and check where they officially are on the final waitlist. It's possible for people to move down on the list from the time of their interview until the end of interviews, which was April 28th. So, if they have not gotten an update recently, it's worth another call or e-mail to Mr. Rosso.

I have checked several times with Mr. Rosso after the waitlist was finalized about my waitlist rank. He said I am in the Upper Third and that my waitlist rank will not change no matter what. He even said that sending updates or LOI's are useless at this point in time as the waitlist is finalized.

yeah.. i moved into the upper third in march and have stayed there ever since - so i'm probably just on the edge... when i get in it will prob. be a good indicator that we've mostly moved through the top third. hopefully soon so i don't have to re-take the mcat at the end of the month! good luck all!

I've tried calling a couple times last week and got sent straight to the voicemail, but when I got through at the end of April, Mr. Rosso pretty much said that I was free to send whatever updates/LOIs by email, fax, snail mail, etc., but that it would have absolutely no affect on my waitlist position - but this was right before the waitlist was officially finalized.

You realize they've never NOT gotten through the top 3rd in the past 10 years, right? If I were you I'd probably go ahead and cancel it. I know you don't want to be overconfident, but realistically there is probably very little chance of you not getting off it. It would be a different story if you were still stuck in the middle or on the lower list, but I really can't imagine them not getting through the top third.

Congrats! People on SDN have been quoting a 2 week time frame, but you should probably check with the individual school as to their actual policy.

I just had a chat with Mr. Rosso about waitlist movement this year. Mr. Rosso said that the waitlist movement speed as of today is almost the same as it was last years (we know how good last year was for waitlisters). This means that middle thirders have a great chance of getting off this year too. Thought I should let you guys know about this.

Mr. Rosso said that the waitlist movement speed as of today is almost the same as it was last years (we know how good last year was for waitlisters). This means that middle thirders have a great chance of getting off this year too. Thought I should let you guys know about this.

Exactly what I was thinking. Hopefully it just means that people aren't around to check their status/emails or whatever.

Literally every day people are calling me to ask me if I got in! It had better happen soon. haha

My employer has been hounding me over whether he should look for a replacement, so I sure hope I get in soon!
 
Called the admissions office a little earlier - my wl status is the same and Mr. Rosso said there was a lot of movement over the weekend. Hopefully this corresponds to much more movement!

...and I also wish I knew what was going on, because my employer is wondering what is going on with me too...they need to hire a replacement.

...and I hear you about people asking everyday about my status...I just keep on saying..."Nothing yet" 😉

Wow! Two quiet days in a row.........that's definitely not looking good. I hope there is some movement in the next two days.
 
My status changed this morning and I was accepted!!!!!!!!! Should be moving to the middle third shortly! hooray!!!!
