Is tomorrow the next committee meeting? Would that mean decisions come out midnight tomorrow?

I interviewed at the beginning of December, so I am hoping for an acceptance tomorrow (fingers crossed :xf:).

I want people's opinions on my interview. It was really different from my interviews at other schools. I asked more questions than my interviewer! He didn't seem to want to ask me any questions really. I almost felt like I was interviewing him. After the interview, however, he took me on a mini-personal tour to show me how the school looked when he went there many years ago. Do you think this is a good sign? I just don't know how to gauge my performance. Fell in love with the school though. I have never seen such happy students.

Don't worry. That means that the interviewer had nothing to indict in your resume. My interview for med school at Wash U was the exact same (i.e. listen to the interviewer talk for a long time punctuated with occasional questions from me), and it worked out OK for me 🙂 (as an aside, that's how residency interviews are done, as a matter of course... so think of it as Wash U investing a bit in your future by letting you know what you'll see in 4 years!). And we really are that happy. Good luck!

I had the same, somewhat confusing, experience at my interview in october, and i still haven't heard back, so I don't think it is necessarily a good or bad thing... just a particular interviewer's style. (though i found it frustrating because it seemed like he wasn't very interested in me and didn't give me much of an opportunity to change his mind.) My interviewer said he is also the residency program director for his specialty, so that makes sense given what you're saying, Keg.

Keg, where do most people live who go to WashU? Are there certain areas of higher student density or is it just find what you can and do that? Also, the second year has letter grades right? Did that make it a lot more killer or did the competition stay the same?

-Sorry if you answered any of this already and i missed it-i've been in a daze

so they had the committee meeting already?

Since they had a committee meeting, what's the time frame in which I might hear? Have they posted status updates online yet or will it take a couple of days?

If I am waitlisted or deferred until March, how/when will I hear? And if I'm rejected? I know that your status page changes if you are accepted but I figure it doesn't change otherwise.

As an aside, I emailed the admissions office yesterday asking for a status update and updating my file just in case. I hope I get some sort of response from that.

for the record, there is NO indicated update on my status page as of yet...i'm sure the majority of calls will go out today...btw i interviewed the first week back in october

Thanks Keg. That makes me feel a bit better. Hopefully my phone will ring today, or my status will change! Elegant Weapon, could you post when your status does change, just so we know? Thanks! Congrats to those of you accepted.

as far as the interview, I wouldn't sweat it. All of the interviews were pretty chill and interesting (even the panel interview for MSTP wasn't too bad), but I did have one really rough interview. This guy was just attacking my lab to point where I was focusing so hard on not looking as angry as a I was, that I couldn't pay attention to his research....but I still got in. So don't worry to much about a weird/bad/lukewarm interview, especially if there are others to balance it.

My Question:
Could any east coaster Wash U students (from NYC, Philly area) comment on how they've found living in St. Louis? The city seemed very different from what I'm used to. I'm just wondering how big of an adjustment was needed.

hahaha who did you interview with? this sounds kind of like what i experienced.

First question: most people live in the central west end, within walking distance of the hospital. I'd look between Kingshighway and Taylor and as far north as Lindell. As far as particular buildings by med students/sq foot, #1 is del coronado, #2 is residences at forest park, #3 is metrolofts (my favorite 🙂), #4 is park east. Then it's just whatever you can find.

Second year is letter grades, and there was no competition either first or second year.

Anything else I (or goodeats) can answer for you or anyone else?

there are letter grades in second year? I thought it was high honors, honors, pass, fail.

Sorry, that's correct. I consider that letter grades (equivalent of A, B, C, F). You get a traditional GPA at the end of it.

do you think that helps or hinders the residency match process?it seems like it might be a disadvantage versus other schools where you could pass/fail and then rock the boards, where as you could have straight b's at washu and still rock the boards no?

although its hard to think otherwise since premeds are mostly trained this way, i wouldnt think too much about the match process. its 3+ years away, and theres so much more to it than the school you go to. find a place that makes you happy and go there. the acceptances you have will all match well if you do well.

I don't think so. I think that straight pass/fail (especially in third year) places people at a disadvantage because residency programs don't like not knowing how a person is doing in their coursework. I've not known anyone to not get interviews because of their grades, at least in my class.

What's the deadline for the Olin scholarship? So...girls accepted after the deadline are no longer eligible for the scholarship?
Also, has anyone heard back anything today via phone/website/email...anything? Awfully quiet today. :boom:

The deadline is Feb. 1. Meaning the info has to be there by the 1st. And yes, you must be accepted to the medical school to apply.

Oh, and everyone, the two times acceptances have come out, some people got called, some didn't. (It's up to your interviewer if they want to let you know). Otherwise, acceptances are updated on the status page at midnight CST Saturday (aka, in 3 hours).

Okay, so if I don't get an acceptance tonight (gosh I hope I do) how do you know if you are on the waitlist? Do they inform you via snail mail or do they tell you on your status page? They are handing out more acceptances in February and March? What is the absolute last day that you can know if you are in (not off the waitlist, but just accepted outright)?

I really want to know. This waiting game is making me nervous.

I don't believe they make a waitlist until later in the season, but I may be totally wrong here.

Do we know approximately which dates we're expecting to hear back from tonight?

last year, acceptances went out again mid-february and then at the end of february and the waitlist was formed in march

then again this year could be different

:luck: to everyone hoping for good news in half an hour!

any status changes yet? 😕

Nope, but I interviewed in mid-late December and so I wonder if they would even have reviewed my application this time around. And of course, I wonder if I'm good enough to be accepted anyway. 🙂

I'm in the exact same boat as you. At this point I hope the lack of news is because they haven't gotten to me and not because a rejection is on the way. I fell in love with this school and am NOT ready to let go. Lets hope our status chages Midnight Feb instead...:xf:

this school interviews a lot of students, yet not many on sdn have reported acceptances. no idea whats going on

I wouldn't give up hope for this round of acceptances until someone actually posts that their status changed. Maybe they haven't updated them. Just because it's what happened last time, doesn't mean that it will now.

do you remember when last time? i remember someone saying they had a meeting mid-dec, but only one person said they were accepted (and i think it was over phone)

I got called by my interviewer earlier today and my status online has changed to Congratulations, <my first name> instead of Welcome to WUMS Apply (or whatever it said before)

I interviewed the first week of October

I was really hoping to hear back soon so I could apply for Olin. Oh well. I didn't interview until Dec. too, and I haven't seen or talked to anyone that has heard back who has interviewed around that time. Maybe they just haven't reviewed us yet. Do you think it would be inappropriate to call and ask?

It was Dec. 18/19.

If I haven't said this already, congrats! Guess it was the same this time. What day did you interview? I interviewed that week too.

Thanks! and yeah, it actually did get updated at midnight CST for me.

I think I interviewed on the 5th, maybe the 6th?

If I'm not mistaken I think I remember someone saying that they email us next week if we were rejected or waitlisted, but that would only apply if they reviewed us (and I'm not even sure if this is the case). But it couldn't hurt to call and ask. I'm guessing they will just tell us we are still in review if we haven't heard anything.

And congrats to those who got acceptances tonight! !! 😀

I thought it was very uncommon for them to reject post-interview, but maybe I made that up

Interviewed back in late-Oct., and haven't heard back anything yet...Gess, I guess I have no luck on this school 🙁
