where did you all do your undergrad?

where did you all do your undergrad?
I just called them. They said OOS and Canadian are NOT separate. They are WL together. Also, it seems 7 out of the 20 that were sent an email yesterday were OOS.
I wonder if sending an my AMCAS in June will hurt my chances at Wayne for this cycle? We have no reason to believe that it will, but who knows? I'm planning on having my application sent into AMCAS no later than the second week of June; Wayne probably won't get it until July.
where did you hear that there will be another round of rejections?
I was thinking of this as well and I really don't think that it could hurt you. If anything I think it shows how much you want to go to medical school by trying to get ahead of the game again. However, if anyone has heard otherwise, please do tell.
When is the first day to submit applications on AMCAS? I was also thinking of submitting ASAP and getting things done really early since it's basically all filled out already anyway, besides a few changes I need to make.
Here is what shows up on the log-in page of the AMCAS: We are currently entering transcripts into the application that were received on 05.18.10. Submission of the 2011 AMCAS application will begin on or about June 1, 2010.
My goal is to have it fully submitted by June 3rd. I mean, a week or two or even three doesn't really matter. But last year I waited until September 2nd to send all of my stuff into AMCAS. I want to give myself a 3-month head start this time around. Why, you ask? Oh, BECAUSE THE WAITING AND MISERY WASN'T GRUESOME ENOUGH THIS PAST YEAR SO I WANTED TO SUBJUGATE MYSELF TO MORE OF IT!![]()
Can you just send the application without choosing any school, I want they verify my application then decide where to apply ?
I really don't want to waste another year of my life. If I thought I could get in then I would re-apply but honestly I don't think I will without retaking the MCAT or boosting my GPA.
So retaking the MCAT is out because I don't want to take it again, it was too grueling.
I don't have the money to go do a SMP and once again even if i do one I don't know if I'll get in.
I'm also 25 and just want to move on with my life. After spending the last 8 years being pre-med I'm kind of burnt out.
If it wasn't meant to be then it wasn't meant to be. If others have the strength and courage to go on then good for them. I'm just so tired of this process that's all.
I know you can ADD schools after submitting your application. However, I'm not sure if they require you to choose at least one school or not before submitting.
This is correct. By the way guys...please just hang in there. I understand how terrible this waiting process is. I never thought in a million years that I would get pulled from the wl. I was deathly terrified that I was the last person on it. Your day will be here soon. After all, it is only may...we have the rest of the summer. Things will work out...they always do.
Just wanted to let you all know that I just got accepted off another school's waitlist that I would almost for sure accept over Wayne state. I am going to remain on the waitlist though, because I still need to figure out my financials for the other school (OOS) because I can save a lot of money by going to Wayne instead, if I get in.
But, to be honest, I will most likely be giving up my spot if I do end up ever getting in.
Good luck to you all!
So guys, what percentage of the total offers do you think have been made thus far, since May 15th?
I feel like at the beginning of Fall last year, my confidence was a brightly-lit torch. Now, it's a dimming match. But what matters is that it remains illuminated. I still have hope. We must all have hope!
Waxing optimism aside, if my score were low enough to give me the rejection seanshah is anticipating, it would be bittersweet. I could move on and begin to plan for reapplication, though it would be sad. But I'll just make sure that the sadness is short-lived and keep working for the future! (I guess this is where my waxing optimism ends, technically.)
I remember when I was looking into the program (a while ago though), they used to have a June 1st deadline so hurry up and get it in. One thing to note: this is a 1.5 year program, correct? So you won't be doing yourself any favors for the class of 2015.
He's not Canadian. Also I seriously doubt they would separate Canadian students from OOS students. MFC is going to call tomorrow and check so we should know soon enough.
I am applying this summer.
Does anyone know if going to a top/ivy school increases the likelihood of getting interviewed/accepted? A friend who attends WSUSOM told me that wayne interviews the vast majority of applicants from top/ivy schools. He told me that they do this because they try to recruit students from top/ivy institutions. Not sure how true this is...

I definitely can relate with you. Right now, I'm at the point where I don't think I'm going to apply to MD schools next year. I feel like the application I sent out was my best...and though there could be minor improvements made, which would probably include retaking the MCAT for a couple extra points (which I don't even know that I could do better), and even then I won't be a shoe in. I am still kind of young (22) but I don't want to waste my time, money, youth, and sanity pursuing something that isn't right for me. I'd really like to get on with my life, and if that is unreasonable, then this career isn't for me. I don't know how students can reapply year after year...I'm already sprouting gray hairs, lol. With that being said, I'm still hoping and praying with every fiber in my body that I get in this round so that I CAN get on with my life!
My guess is that at least 60 people have been taken off the waitlist after the last admittance cycle ended on May 5th. This is quite a bit of waitlist movement...so I would guess (for whatever it's worth) that more students are going to be accepted of the waitlist then last year.

Ya everyone is pretty different in this process. I don't like it when people can't relate and just say will if you want to be a doctor that bad then reapply and retake your MCATs. There are so many other things going on in life, everyone's life that can affect the way you feel about reapplying.
I really hope I get of one of the two wait lists that I'm on. This whole process is very unfair and unforgiving to me. You work you ass off for years and years just to have a bunch of people who don't really know you that well pass judgement on you. They could get you completely wrong! That seems really bias and unpredictable to me, it's I do believe a lot of luck when it comes to getting in!

its probably not true. as with all schools they have general MCAT and GPA guidelines they like to follow (among other things). going to an ivy won't guarantee you an interview anywhere
also, why do you keep referring to it as "top/ivy". if it is an ivy school,it is redundant to say its a top school. and if its a top school thats not an ivy, then there is no point in mentioning ivy. what are we hiding.
The kicker of it all is...we work our asses off, spend the little money that we DO have to try to get into medical school in hopes of working our asses off even more and going into extreme debt at the same time. Kudos to anyone who has the passion to be relentless through this process, but the 5 years I have spent is enough for me. Now that I'm on a role with all of this whining, idk about anyone else, but do you have friends that say "Of course you're going to get in you're really smart", or "Yea I understand what you are going though", who actually cannot relate at all and are going into completely different fields? Or the kicker is when they think you are exaggerating everything, or when they compare the GRE to the MCAT. That's very frustrating to me. Phewww glad I could get that off my chest.
Regarless though, of whether I get in or not, I don't consider it a complete loss. I think this whole process really tests a person, and brings out parts of your character that you hadn't had to use before. I know I have learned a lot from this whole process, which can only help in future endeavors if need be.
so how many years have you been a premed?
Assume that these top/ivy students have average stats....
Completely untrue. Go to Wayne States statistics page. Most of their class comes from U of M. GO BLUE.

There isn't an Ivy League in sight.

Chemdude:
Applying this year.
"GPA:3.9
MCAT: 37S
EC's: latino center council member, member of latino education committee, helped in the building of a school for my community, tutored disadvantaged middle school kids for one semester, latino center soccer team(is this even worth mentioning), etc.
Research: 2 years as an undergraduate research assistant in biology in two different labs. Starting a big chemistry research project this semester. (1 publication, 1 presentation at a national conference).
New addtion to EC's: I recently started a tutoring program for disadvantaged high school students in my community. I managed to find 6 college students(friends) that were willing to tutor these kids for free. I put up ads at our community center and we began tutoring a fair amount of students(17). Three of the students were immigrant girls who were getting tutored without their parents' permission. Unfortunately, the parents [fathers] of these girls did not want them to continue their education after they graduate high school (I know, wtf?!). I contacted the fathers of these girls and spoke to them about the future of their daughters. After hours of negotiation, I convinced two of the fathers to let their daughters attend college next year! (I think this is by far the most important accomplishment of my life)
Clincal Experience: ~170 hrs of volunteering at 2 different hospitals (1.5 years time span). 60 hours of shadowing.
BTW, I am not latino....

I get why you would think that I am applying to Wayne State as a safety. That may be true for other ivy students with high stats. I am not applying to Wayne State as a safety; I have genuine interest in Wayne State. I did 2 summers of research at Wayne State. My publication and presentation were based on this research. One of my LORs is from a professor who has been teaching at Wayne State for 20 years. My hometown is a 30 min drive from Wayne State....you get the point...
Although Wayne is not my top choice, I would be very happy if I got accepted there because I know it is a great school.
this is yoru stat??
and you are not aceepted hopeful...i can really feel for you now.
Mention all of that in your secondary and you're sure to get in. Now if you don't mind, this thread must revert to blind speculation and desperate coddling of our hope that maybe one of us will be pulled off the waitlist in the next few weeks.
