Sorry if previous post sounds way mushy for this thread...I'm taking a break from Biochem by checking my subscribed threads...and James Taylor's "You've Got a Friend" was streaming from Pandora...

😉

:ninja:Don't you worry 'bout a thing! Mushiness and encouragement are always welcome here.

You know... you will have time to have fun in med school.🙂 I took up inline skating, speedskating, hockey, archery, and snowboarding. I can't necessarily devote the time I'd like to those things, but it's good to have something you can relax with.

It's not like you get to med school and your life ends unceremoniously.

Heh, I figured from what I've heard here and at the interviews. 😛 = mostly joking.

First, I greatly appreciate your help in this thread and how helpful you've been in general.

However, your post is rude, melodramatic, and incorrectly and perhaps dangerously presumptive.

I don't get how his post is what you describe. vc7777 is one of the nicest people you'll meet ANYWHERE. Just wait until you're a med student and have to deal with attendings. He brings up legitimate points, and I agree with it 100%. You'll always have time to do things for fun, this really isn't the end of your life. Summer between 1st and 2nd year is completely open, you have another 2 months off before residency starts, you'll have plenty of time to do all the things you want.

I don't think I'll have time or opportunity to be in a(nother) big ballet production during medical school...

I don't doubt that vc is nice, but his post was rather accusatory and painted me to be... essentially the opposite of who I am--in a negative way.

Nor do I think that my life ENDS in medical school. But there are things I could/can/am doing now that I won't be able to do then, unless I'll have drastically more time than everyone I've asked has said about md school.

It sounds like you already know what you want to do, which is totally fine. In the end, neither program will know if you take biochem or not. Even if you say you are going to take it, seriously, the programs won't really keep track. 😉

I try not to be dishonest, esp about med school apps.

I'm not telling you to be dishonest. Situations change and we understand. I can't really speak for CCLCM, which is what you seem to be gunning for, but at UP, we're really understanding people. We totally love it when people do cool things like this. I think biochem is only strongly encouraged, but by no means required. It won't make or break your CCLCM app. Just make a decision and stick with it.

Oh, and the correct answer, for medical school/residency interviews and beyond, is that you're never dishonest, not just for med school apps. 🙂

Ah but the correct answer is dishonest 😉

It's a prereq at cclcm, so I think it matters 🙂

Well in that case, screw biochem, do your dance thing, come to UP, and make up the cost difference with that extra year of attending salary. 😛 I think you'll be happier in the end.

Hey guys, I was put on high hold and told my file would be presented at the last admissions committee. Judging by the lack of phone call I wasn't accepted. A bit discouraged, but hoping for the best next cycle. Just FYI, in case anyone was wondering. Best of luck for everyone else! It's a great program.

Hello everyone,
So, I interviewed in mid December for the UP and had my application placed on hold in early January. Here are a few questions:

1.) Would anyone get declined (not waitlisted) this early or would that really come later in april?

2.)Now that I am on hold, is it possible to hear back sooner than April?

3.) Are the majority of people who interview in this situation?

Thank you and Good luck everyone!!! :xf:

There's another round of acceptances to be done still; not sure if the last committee meeting was the one yesterday, unless someone told you otherwise?

Decisions are up!!

ACCEPTED!!!! Cleveland here I come! 😍

I sent a letter of intent... might help you guys out if it's your top choice 🙂

Hey all - I apologize if this has been discussed earlier on, but I don't have the time right now to go through 40+ pages, and I was wondering if anyone could provide a quick answer - I received the "check your status on iapply" email yesterday night, and then when I checked both last night and this morning there were no changes.
I was rejected from the College Track on Jan 5th (and had been checking iapply regularly, so I knew this over 2 weeks ago), so I'm hoping that's not what the email last night was about.
I have yet to hear from the University track, and from what I saw in earlier posts, getting an email to check your iapply status seemed to be a positive thing (ie- an interview invite).
So, my question is: did anyone get an email telling them to check iapply only to find out that they had been rejected or placed on pre-interview hold? Or do you think this could be a super-delayed email telling me I was rejected from the college track over 2 weeks ago? I don't want to get my hopes up, but will probably contact Case later today if there's still no change on iapply. Is Case still extending interview invites at this point? Gah!

IDK if UP is still doing invites, but sometimes it can take a while for your status to update after an iapply email. Several of us had that problem earlier on in the season. I hope it's good news!

for anyone who submitted an update letter, did you guys receive any confirmation that it was accepted? thanks!

Was this a post-interview update? We were instructed to email those directly to Mr. Essman, and he emailed me back a few days later confirming he got it. It went to my junkmail though, just FYI.

yeah post interview and thanks for the info 🙂

I'm also curious to know if the files on hold will be reviewed again in the next month or two. Can anyone shed a little light on the hold process?

Are any of the current medical students going to be at the UP interviews on Monday (jan 24th)? Myuu? vc7777?

Oh, quite a few people get declined. I was on hold and was informed in like March at some point there were no more acceptances, and that they would soon form a waitlist. Then I was put on the waitlist when they made it in April and then was accepted in May.

To those still awaiting the call - and trying to figure out whether to drop Biochem

You're probably really frazzled by the anticipation:uhno:. I empathize with you - weighing the financial cost of the class + doing things you feel like you'll miss out on because after all the clock doesn't slow down or go in reverse after you start medical school is not an easy process.

I think what the members of this board are trying to communicate is that it is in one's best interest to take a course like Biochem (Flowrate: I spoke to many engineering majors in past interviews who made the switch and the two classes they recommend - were Biochem and Anatomy), particularly if you have the opportunity to and especially if it is required.

However, that is a personal decision for you - possibly borne of your financial situation/previous commitments/etcs. Although this board is a forum for airing counsel (as well as grievances), everyone understands that despite their 2 cents (as valuable as it is) - such decisions such as taking extra classes are personal decisions. From all that I've heard from students during tours, it's about prioritizing - if there is something that you love to do, you'll find a way to fit it in your med school schedule.

Anyway, good luck on the call...and good luck on whatever you decide to do.👍:claps:
Perfectly well said.

vc7777777 is not an ogre, and what myuuuu said is straight up - you will have time to do things during med school.

Complete 12/16, interview invite 1/6. I can't handle any more traveling -- my ears still buzz and pop 7 days after the last landing, and we almost overshot the landing strip -- so I withdrew my application. Wimpy, I know, but I'm just about done with this marathon  Good luck to you all!

Psssh, not wimpy...I'm about to turn down my 4th interview invite 🙁 Travelling east from CA is not much fun (or cheap). :luck:

No, it isn't. You've been complaining about the biochem class for weeks if not months. You don't even have to take it before you find out whether you get accepted, just before you matriculate. (Meaning you could take it in the early summer if you need to.) So just drop it then.

There was no indication that it was the last meeting. I feel like it may have been one of the "mini meetings" vc described.

Dude, you're applying to school to be a physician and not a professional ballerina (or a ballerino or whatever they call the male version of a ballerina). I mean, don't get me wrong. I think your ballet background is pretty unique and all that jazz. But dancing isn't your day job anymore, and learning biochem is. No matter what, you'll be taking a biochem class in the near future anyways. Either suck it up and take the class or drop it. Just no more whining please.

BOOM! Headshot.

I have personally mentioned biochem exactly four times in this thread over a course of several months, once asking about the requirement (in a "can I do this online" way), and once as commiseration with a fellow poster who has somehow not been lynched over the same thing. That's twice in four months that I mentioned I would like to hear back soon with that additional reason. I hardly think it's a fair characterization to say I've been "complaining about it for weeks or even months"--that's bull****.

Also, I really wasn't complaining, I was simply stating the additional reason why I would prefer to hear back sooner rather than later. I don't whine IRL, I'm a logic driven person.

Furthermore, the most recent issue was settled, there is no reason to continue bringing it up except to try and make me feel bad.

I like you folks, I certainly hope ya'll don't think I'm a whiny bitch who somehow warranted a subsequent public forum bashing like that. Not cool, man. What happened to fun and supportive CWRU thread? ****.

With all this bitterness I felt compelled to add some light heartedness. Mr. Essman referenced "the internetz" when explaining changes to the curriculum this week lol.

O! And in honor of all of your post-application and post-interview-induced neuroticism (which we do remember all too well):

On behalf of the "on hold" ers, thank you for the lil' boost to our hopes!

I was at that interview day too! That was the best. Good luck to everyone!
