Hey hockeyjunkie! I tried to visit you and the interviewees, but no one was in the office between classes :\ I'm glad you had enoyed it! We do our best to make it a very comfy day so you get to see Case like it really is. ^_^
When I interviewed here, I saw how friendly people were with each other. Several of them had called each other and tried really hard to find me a student host when I went, too. I was shocked. My student host went out of her way to let me stay in her tiny place for 2 nights, and was an absolute blast to hang around with. I thought that it was possible that it was just those few who involved in the interviewing process or who offered housing, but when I saw how the students interacted with each other in the halls, it was dramatically different from other places I'd been. I was sold.
Then this summer, and I'm not joking when I say it, I was even more impressed when I got to know my classmates...so it's no joke that Case really creates a very special class of students who have all sorts of different backgrounds, but all have a very "team" kind of attitude. <3

Oh, and this isn't really all that late in the game. You've still got a great chance. I interviewed in Jan. Good luck!

Hey Auriga - sorry I missed you. I was in the 2nd year lecture then I went to the IQ sessions on Monday. I wonder if I saw any M2s that are on SDN. Anyway, I had a great visit and looking forward to hearing back from Case soon.

Beaten to the punch!
Yes, she is wily - what nerv she has, using me as a medium so mercilessly...

I am hereby banning myself from SDN until after the Biochem/GI exam next Thursday. I leave you with a picture depicting the epic journey upon which I embark:

You see anyone in a bright red caps hoody?🙂

That was you? I was the one who asked you if you were a CAPS fan.... Sorry I didn't introduce myself, kind of felt awkward after I asked that question.

Hmmm, I dunno about the CAPS.... I am not a huge Ovechkin fan (I do like Backstrom and Green though). Steven Stamkos is my boy. Rooting for Tampa Bay or Vancouver.

Myuu have you been to a Lake Erie Monsters game? Do you know what AHL games are like? I would love to have a team near me if I were to go to Case, I can't live without watching hockey.

Haha, I figured that was you! Sorry about the timing. The meet-the-dean bit starts at 11:30, so I guess I got there a weeeee bit to late to hang out.

Ovechkin is a bit of an... odd personality. Green, Backstrom, and Semin are all awesome, though!

I have not yet been to a Monsters game, though I plan on seeing one next month, actually. I've never been to an AHL game, but I have gone to ECHL games (as a much smaller person), which are definitely fun. If you want to watch local hockey, there's plenty of that, too. Actually, there are some sports medicine residents that will let you shadow them at high school hockey games.🙂

Sports Medicine is something I am interested in so that would be awesome! I saw from this thread that you play hockey too? Is there an adult league that plays nearby? I may need to bring my gear if I get the privilege of attending Case.

Hahaha, well I play pretty badly, but there's an adult league that plays 5 minutes from school on some very well-maintained ice. There are also several opportunities for pick-up games.👍

At least its 5 minutes away. I just got done playing a game and got home at 1am...... Closest rinks are at least 20 minutes away.

The AHL is good stuff. Quality hockey and you see future NHLers on their way up as well as NHLers on the back side of their career or in rehab. Decent crowds at many venues, and the price is right! 😉

Rejected from UP on Wednesday. 🙁

I definitely wanted to interview here, but I guess I'll press on. Good luck to everyone else! 🙂

I am sorry to hear that BostonFan. 🙁

Good luck to you with your other schools.

is there a student hosting program available for case western?

are we supposed to just make use of the 3rd and 4th your name bank, email the admissions office, or is there a formal process?

I just contacted students on the student hosting list directly. I had a great student host, would definitely recommend staying with one.

There's a list of first and second years who have volunteered to host. As per the instructions, you are to contact them via email.

Hi, my interview for case is coming up! i'm super excited to visit this school! i was hoping someone can shed some light on the format of the interview. I know it is 1 student 1 faculty and they can either be in the morning + afternoon or both afternoon. are the interviews open file or closed? and how long are they typically? i have a flight to catch at 7:30pm, will i be able to make it on time if i decide to take the RTA? finally, can someone shed some light on the med curriculum and (this may seem very naive) what makes case such a good school? thank you!

I had the last interviews of the day and got out around 4-ish (my faculty interview ran wayyy over, haha) and I took the train and still made a 6:25 flight. You should be fine. Cleveland's airport security is a breeze.

Student interviewers only have the activities list from your AMCAS application, faculty interviews are open file. They'll give you all the info about their curriculum and and the school when you're there.

Hey everyone,

I was lucky to receive an acceptance to Case (UP) a while back and now am seriously thinking about where I will be living the next four years. I am married with a toddler (20 mo) and my husband is a bit (ok alot) skeptical about moving to cleveland.

Are there any current students from midwest towns that could give me insights about your adjustment to moving? Or any other info about what cleveland is really like?

Also, is there any info about the second look weekend? It appears that three of the schools I am accepted to have the same second look weekend! I am seriously thinking about going to the case one but would like some more info/insight from current students. THanks!

Who else is a little excited about the fact that the committee is probably deciding some of our fates right now?!! Also a little scary haha.

Crystelle, I would suggest that you thoroughly research the curriculum and university well before your interview - don't wait until the interview presentations to learn about it. Case is (from everything they and their students say) big on fit, and a big part of that fit is your fit with the curriculum. You would be at a significant disadvantage if you weren't familiar with the curriculum before your interview. Maybe you aren't a good fit, in which case you wouldn't be happy there, but you need to find out if you are before your interview. You should find more than enough material on their website. I'd look at it, then bring your questions to current students.

Faculty interview is open file, student only AMCAS activities, both very conversational. Both interviews are said to be timed, where they actually try hard to not go over (although both of mine did). Timing for faculty is 45 minutes, 30 minutes for student (pretty short). There seemed to be back to back presentations throughout the day, so I didn't have a lot of downtime.

My flight was at 7, and I was one of the last students to leave the admissions office (~4, 4:30). I had PLENTY of time (although I left straight from the interview via RTA at the Cedar stop, didn't look at parts of the campus), and was waiting for my plane for a good amount of time. You will be fine.

Is Case still giving out interview invites? When are the last interviews generally?

Anyone know how long it usually takes Case to update your status after the committee meeting?

That is for UP right? I think Dr. Love might be asking about College Track. If I recall correctly, he was interviewing for that program.

Ahh, sorry about that. CP does things a lot less frequently, so I've no idea. You get a phone call when you get a phone call. Celebration ensues.

No, I was actually asking about the UP (I interviewed for both programs). I know that the committee met on Monday, just wondering what day I should frantically check my status (glad to hear I picked the right day).

CP only does three rounds of acceptances, so I'm not expecting to hear back soon.

My bad. Well lets get started on frantically checking our status on iApply.

It's been super snowy today, but we still had classes (haven't cancelled in 15 years, apparently), so hopefully they still met.:luck::xf:

EDIT: Wooooow, I was asleep. They met on Monday, not today.

For days like today, are students pretty cool about sharing their notes with those who couldn't make it in because of the weather?

Oh, definitely. I remember hearing something about someone attending IQ by skype once, too.👍

That's awesome! Such a good idea. I'm glad the students help each other out. I probably should've guessed that from how friendly everyone was when I interviewed.

OK I'm done checking my e-mail, this is stupid. Case Western needs to hurry up and send acceptances already, what is this nonsense?

I believe it is known as "impatience" in the common vernacular.

Myuu, did you watch the all-star game last weekend? Did you like the format?

I am just trying to start a different conversation so I don't keep freaking out and check iApply ten million times.

Sadly, I didn't. I was a bit occupied studying for an exam.😳

Are you mocking me? Is that what you are doing? :eyebrow:

Chilllll. Your decision will come when it comes.:luck::xf:

DON'T TELL ME TO CHILL, I'M FREAKING OUT!+pissed+

Just kidding, actually I don't think they are going to update the status today, so I am going to get a burger - burgers make me happy.

Maybe I will go get a burger too- they also make me happy.

Baaahh! Burgers make me fat so I'll just be on pins and needles until I receive a status update email:scared:

Oh yeah, the burger place on my block had a "snow day". Couldn't be happy if I wanted!

For everybody worried about the decisions not being up and obsessively checking this thread and iapply (I'm doing this too..)...two weeks ago the decisions weren't mentioned as being up until about 50 minutes from now...burgers now...panicky indigestion in about 50 minutes...good luck to everybody!!!
