For anyone already accepted to the University Program, there is an opportunity to apply to the MD/PhD program in Healthcare Organization, Outcomes, and Policy. Case is one of the few schools in the country to have a funded program in this field. The program typically lasts 6-7 years and there are a lot of great research opportunities for those interested in improving the delivery of US healthcare. The deadline for the application is the end of the month.

Decided to suck it up and pay for a flight ticket to Second Look!!! So excited. 🙂
 
Question about the CP:

I'm still on high hold. What does this mean? Is that a waitlist since all acceptances have been given out? I was put on high hold in december and then got an email in january saying a decision hasn't been made yet.

Wow, great weekend, but I think I learned that making medical school decisions by committee isn't always the greatest idea. In our last episode I floated the idea of going out for nachos and beer.....so I got some buds and that's exactly what we did. Well into our session, my friends were helping me with strategy on how to get my ticket punched at Case.:idea: Two ideas emerged and the general consensus was that I should send an update to Christain Essman RIGHT AWAY!! The ideas? Well the good one was that I should submit a body donation form for my parents if Case lets me in!:laugh: Then it was all downhill from there. The best of the rest was that I should make a diversity play based on the fact that I'm ugly. NICE!!:laugh::laugh:

Anyway the beer and nachos were pretty tasty all the same. Wish you could have been here!😉

I probably should have searched but, in my defense, if you're going to post about a program, the most informative/convenient way to do so would be to include a website link along with the email address of the person to contact.

I feel better already! Initially I was thinking peds, but there's nothing worse than a bunch of ankle biting Jedi's after you. Now I'm sort of leaning toward the psychiatry interest group. Seems like I might fit in there? Do you think a hat would help?
 
Hi. I have not been following this thread very closely but I just wanted to say that I got accepted a couple weeks ago and just registered for second look weekend. So excited to meet all of you! Also, will there be rides to pick us up from the airport? Or do we have to find our own transportation?

I took the tram from the airport when I flew for my interview, it's cheap and convenient.. that might work for you!

I am wondering this also. I submitted the Need Acess and FAFSA a while back and they still are not checked, do you think something is up that I need to follow up on?

On another note, I registered for second look today and was wondering if anyone else was thinking about bringing their significant other/could bring them. I was not sure so I placed that on the "special needs" box. Otherwise I will have to make another visit with my husband so that he can get acquainted with Cleveland!

Need Access and FAFSA take a while for finaid to process, so you might not see those boxes checked for a while. If it starts making you super-nervous, you can call their office.🙂

As to SOs, you're welcome to bring them, but accommodations are for you and your potential-classmate-turned-temporary-roommate. He's welcome to stay in a nearby hotel, though. They're not terribly expensive (and definitely not as expensive as an extra flight or car trip).

Thanks for the response ! 🙂 I really like Case however, my husband is not too fond of Cleveland and therefore I would like him to be able to see what I love so much about the school himself.

I can get you guys rooms at The Intercontinental Suites, where all the second lookers are staying, for $78/night total with taxes for that weekend (regular price is around $90-100/night with taxes, which is still pretty cheap). PM if you want details.

Wow thanks! We wouldn't mind paying 🙂. I might have to take you up on that offer!

However, do you guys know if I could bring him to all the events or not. Also, have other incoming medical students done this before? I guess I just really want him to see what Case is all about first hand like I saw it when I interviewed.😍 Right now moving to Cleveland is such a deterrent for him since we also have a young daughter and he feels uncomfortable with the city atmosphere (we are from a tiny town)!
 
Well, i just got off with the admissions office and they said that he would not be able to attend any of the events except the night event on saturday, however, I would feel bad leaving him at the hotel the whole day and evening before.

Would any of the current students be willing to give us your own version of the tour or hang out Sunday (April 10)? I was thinking about maybe doing the second look at OSU friday/sat then driving to Cleveland on Sat/Sun and visiting with the office/finaid on Monday.

I guess from my husband's perspective he just needs to get to know Cleveland better from someone that knows where they are going.

Hi everyone! I was accepted from the last interview day - so if there is anyone else out there from 2/25 - way to brave the snow! I'm excited for Second Look, but disappointed that it also conflicts with Mount Sinai's. Is anyone else in the same position? Thoughts?

A couple of thoughts from someone who has done the small town/big city thing. I've decided that I can live anywhere and that size really doesn't matter than much anymore. It's the relationships/friends that I make that matter and make the experience a quality one. People can be nasty in a small town just easily as in a big town, and the bad news is that you can't get away from them in a small town. In a big town, you have the opportunity to meet a lot more people and can find places and people where you really fit in and feel comfortable. Church and school are perfect places to start cutting a big city down to size and feeling comfortable there. Cleveland is a big city, but there are tons of opportunities there, great restaurants, nice people, theater, sports, etc, and it's very livable.
As for your second look opportunity, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is just a short distance from where you'll be staying , so that's an option, and then if he has a car available, there is the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton. Either one will eat up a day pretty well, so just something to think about. Two wishes.... first, I wish I was you getting accepted to Case! 😉 And I wish you well in your decision making.:luck:

I'm planning to bring my SO to Case for Second Look and would like to organize some kind of event with others in the same situation.

I'm going to contact some of the students I met during the interview day and see if I can get a few people to show us (and our SOs) around the school on Sunday morning. Plus I think it would be a great opportunity to meet others who are dragging along someone with them to Cleveland!

If you're interested in being part of the group please PM me so I can be sure to keep you informed.

Congrats to all the upperclassmen! I can't wait to be in that position in 4 years, hopefully my first choice too!

Demonstrating commitment to this concept the Cleveland Clinic made available full academic scholarships to completely cover the cost of tuition to all students accepted. CCLCM accepts 32 students into each incoming class.

100% is phenomenal!

I know this is going to sound very naive but I'm still learning about the match. Anyways, is it often that not everyone matches? If you don't match what happens? Are you screwed or do you still have a chance to get placed somewhere even though interviews are over? Once again sorry about the ignorance of these questions but I absolutely don't know much about this process.
 
The Match is a version of the on the Stable Marriage Algorithm. Applicants and Residency programs both make rank order lists of their preferred "partners". The twist is that the residencies have multiple "weddings".

Without getting into the gory details, the program favors the applicants (slightly), and it is an iterative process.

Being unmatched is just like in "musical chairs" when the music stops and you have no chair. If you were unmatched you would have found out on Monday (via e-mail). Tuesday at Noon - The Scramble began. That is when unmatched students and umatched residency spots have a very tense and short amount of time to (virtually) meet, and work out a deal. From what I understand, it isn't a pleasant experience.

Fortunately, the scramble process is changing after this year. Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure of the details, so you're going to have to research that on your own, if you'd like to know more.😳

I'd be happy to show you guys around school on Sunday. I would have absolutely brought my hubby with me for second look, had I been able to go. So I want to help make sure that you AND your S.O. get a good view of Case. PM me and I'll give you my email.
 
Hey guys. I noticed that the class for the incoming class starts in July 7th, but I couldn't find the date for orientation. I'm trying to plan out exactly when I should start thinking about moving in and settling down in Cleveland. So when is the first significant event that I should be around to participate? Thanks!
 
The first day of "class" marks the begining of orientation, if I understand things correctly.

They ease you into this whole med school thing. No worries. 😉

Last year the cclcm kids started a couple of days before the rest of the class...but only by a few days

Myuu, your "GO MASON" reminds me of that one time Mason got to the final 4 (or was it final 2? I don't follow basketball) and everyone was like "WhoTF is Mason?". Exciting time for Fairfax.
