That's actually pretty interesting that a lot of people are going into surgical fields; maybe there are a bunch of engineers who like ortho or something?
I'm sure that's part of it. Ortho does seem to be pretty popular--last I heard, there are three people in my class applying in ortho.
🙂
Sadly, I'll be in Toronto that weekend, as ideal as it is.😳
You suck.
👎
What about the weekend after? I.e., Sept. 11-12?
Went with Oct 25/26...otherwise it would have been four weeks in a row...ugh.
👍
Placed on hold for UP.
Do people ever get placed off hold? Should I be writing an update letter to them now?
Yes, some people on hold do get invites later. If you had no chance of getting an invite, they would have just rejected you outright. As for the update letter, I think if you have something significant to update your app with (new grades, a new pub or poster presentation, new significant EC, etc.) then sure, by all means, let them know.
On hold too for UP 🙁 From what I've heard it is still fairly possible to get an interview since Case rejects people outright at this point too? Can somebody who actually knows what they are talking about confirm this? 🙂
See above.
Its only like a $1.50 and the last time I took it (five or six years ago) they were still giving out Susan B Anthony dollars as change.
Haha, you sound like someone's granddad. "Back in my day, sonny, the RTA only cost $1.50, and they gave your change in silver dollars!"
😛
Nowadays, the RTA costs $2.25, and they don't give you change. If you want to ride the RTA, I recommend bringing several quarters and ones.
As for CCLCM, I think I read online that 1500 apply, 300 get interviews, and 32 matriculate (no idea what actual accepted is). ***These are just rough estimates from what I read, it's on the website somewhere if you look***
Those were last year's stats. Approximately 55 were accepted. Just as an FYI, it's likely that CCLCM will be interviewing fewer people this year, more in the range of 250.
I would definitely take the RTA unless you're getting in late at night. It's super cheap and more or less takes you where you need to go, with some modifications.
I agree.
The cab idea could be a good one if you can set it up. My experience with calling cabs has been that they tend not to show up on a reliable basis. This isn't Chicago or New York where you can step outside and whistle!
I would recommend that those of you who are staying at Case (Glidden House) or CCF (one of the Intercontinental Hotels or the Guesthouse) and arrive in Cleveland during the day should take the Red Line train from the airport to Tower City, and then get on the Health Line bus, which goes from Tower City directly to both Case and CCF and passes fairly close by to all of the above-mentioned hotels. I promise you won't get lost, because you can only go in one direction from the airport on the Red Line and only in one direction from Tower City on the Health Line.
🙂
If you're coming in late at night, I would splurge for the shuttle. Case and CCF are both urban campuses, and it's not a great idea to be wandering around these areas late at night, especially if you're by yourself and you're not really sure where you're going. Some things like your safety are worth paying a little extra for, and with as much as med school costs, an extra $30 or $40 is pretty miniscule. If you want to save money, then stay with a student host and save the hotel fee.
