Interview invite today - complete 7/29. Sent an in the area email Friday afternoon.

Crazy question, but is there any advantage to submitting early/asap when they use non-rolling admissions?

I was at Weill Cornell this summer doing an internship. They seriously review everything on all applications, so submitting early means an earlier interview. I've noticed this with my friends and I who went there this summer and the timing of our applications. As well as being close to a Dean(s). Weill Cornell is an amazing school with amazing people. I cannot emphasize this enough. Good luck everyone! Also, if you send an email stating that you will be in the area, I've heard some of them say they pull those applications and review them (but I wouldn't lie about being in the area🙂)

I feel like Cornell is one of those schools where numbers (after a point of course) don't really matter as much. As in, they like interesting people who have cool stories to tell.

This is very true! Also, they try to do half and half of Tier 1 schools and the other half other tiers (so I've been told). I've been told they rather have diversity over a school filled with all 4.0 / 40+ MCAT applicants. They advocate for people with amazing stories.

Hey guys!

I submitted in late July... I'm still 'under review'. WCMC is my absolute #1 choice to the point of it being an unhealthy obsession 😛 Not sure if my stats are ideal but I'm hopeful! 34S, 4.0

Anyways, here's the thing. I have an interview at Stonybrook on the 5th of November. Do I try the 'in the area' e-mail? I'm scared!!

Thanks 🙂
Annie

That's awesome WCMC is your #1!!! I would drop them an 'in the area email' Good luck! After spending the summer at WCMC, I LOVE it!!!

Hi guys, thank you so much for the responses! I sent an in the area e-mail yesterday... We'll see how it turns out for me. Hope my numbers are good enough to get their attention 😛 I love this school!

Congrats to all you guys who have interviews, and good luck, you're going to do great 🙂 what an exciting time! You've all worked so hard and you deserve the best.

Cheers,
Annie

WOW. I was complete on 10/11 and got an interview invite today. I will probably be heading over there on 10/21. Anyone else got this date?

I got an interview invite at Cornell! My first one.
I am very excited because its also my birthday. Awesome!

I hope that I knock it out of the park. Good luck to everyone. We can do it!

Congrats! Its my birthday too. What a great birthday present. I hope we both do well on our Cornell Interview, it would be amazing to get accepted and attend.

for those of you who have scheduled interviews, what days of the week are available to schedule??

Interviews are scheduled Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays with a choice of morning interview (get out around 2) or afternoon (out around 5). In my opinion you'll have a little more to talk about if you do the lunch/talk/meet and greet/tour before your interview, but others may differ.

Congrats! May I ask when you were complete?

@DreamyKid, I was complete on 9/28. So my interview came a little over 2 weeks later.

@Zercom Happy Belated!!! I hope so too!

Not all the hosts have tiny mats. I used to have applicants on my futon. But the mat situation is more common.

Plus, the hosting is a great way to meet students and get their honest opinions. I always made it a point to take students staying with me to meet some small groups of other med students to get some one-on-one non pressured Q and A time.

Good Luck to all.

Sorry to those who got MSTP rejections. I am sure you will get interviews elsewhere.

OMGGGGG INTERVIEW!!!!!!!!!!

I'm so so so so excited 🙂 🙂 🙂
just an interview is the most amazing honor in the world.
thanks for everything guys

Does anyone have any interview advice or feedback for Cornell? I mean Cornell-specific...I know all the regular stuff like don't be nervous, etc.

complete since 7/26 still nothing. Hopefully something comes along

Those who were rejected MSTP, did you pay attention to your status update? I'm assuming they'd email me if they were going invite me for an interview and my status is now "The MDPhD office mailed a final admissions decision to you" 99% sure = rejection 🙁
sucks too cause my dad's going to be the one to get that letter at my permanent address.

😛 they rejected me for early decision undergrad too so maybe it's just never meant for me to go to cornell (ithica or nyc)

Took them a little over a week too. Only submitted my secondary on the 21st.

EDIT: just occured to me. Do they turf rejections over to the regular MD program? the vast majority of my schools do and I just realized I don't know if Cornell does...

why do they send it to your permanent address? shouldnt they send it to the current address? (this is not just for cornell, im asking in general...)

I listed my permenant address cause I graduate in december and move back home so it was just easier to have things sent to my perminant address rather than worrying about changing my address halfway through the application year.

Edit: Wow, there was some really bad typing in there. Edited to fix.

I got a rejection email for mstp before I noticed the status change. And yeah, it seems they were incredibly eager to reject me

😛 I didn't even get an email. I was just looking through all the status update pages and got that status. 👎 WORST way to find out. Ever.

woahh this is really weird. yesterday when I checked the status page it said something like "your application is under review by the MDPhD committee". and now it says "Your application to the MDPhD program is complete and under consideration." I thought "under review" was supposed to be further along the process?
did anyone else get the same statuses?

I'd take that status over the one I got! 😛 My guess, as much as I hate to say it, is that you're right. Under review meant they were giving it serious thought. Complete and under consideration = hold ?
Dunno, that's purely speculation.

I am really confused, so is "under review" before "your application is complete" I cannot remember what my status was when I last checked but now it is: "Your application is complete. Since we screen each applicant individually, the process may take a few months. Weill Cornell does not have rolling admissions so we ask that you please be patient. Final decisions are communicated beginning in December. The class is selected in March."

anyone know what this really means?

I have the same status. I received a complete email on 7/9 and have heard nothing since. I sent them an "in the area" email (going to NYU in a couple of weeks) on 10/15 and never got a response. Starting to wonder what's going on, as it's approaching 4 months since I was complete...

For me, complete came after under review on the status page. Not sure what to make of it exactly. Maybe call and ask?

I was complete early august too. I wonder what is the earliest interviews dates now and how many more they are giving out?

I interviewed here 10/21 and I was complete on 10/8 so I don't think they go sequentially at all. Maybe it just has to do with when the person/people reviewing your file get done.

Does anyone know about sending updates to Cornell? I wanted to send something but couldn't remember seeing info on this...

I don't think it'd hurt to send one via snail mail. That's what I did recently - will see if that has any effect. They aren't rolling and as seen in the rest of the thread, aren't really looking at being sequentially either, so if they really are reviewing people throughout the year as they claim, then I think it would benefit you to send an update.

Okay. I've googled and searched and can't find a definitive answer:

Anyone know if you're still in the running for MD if rejected from MSTP?

I sent an update (pdf attachment on email) around this time last year and got an interview a couple weeks later. Seeing as the whole process is electronic now it seems kind of silly to me to send via snail mail IMO- it'll just get scanned and added to your file electronically anyway. But either way should be fine.

True. I guess I thought snail mail would appear more "official" or have taken more effort, ha. I did e-mail for other schools that I knew absolutely accepted updates via e-mail.

well. after two in the area emails a couple weeks apart (10/15 and 11/1) I have finally been invited to interview at cornell!! lesson learned: don't be shy. pumped.

I completed my application on 9/3 and I haven't received heads or tails of anything since then. Am I hosed? What was the length of time it took from submission to hear back from them? And do they send out a rejection notice?

hey drugsarefun,

were your two in-the-area emails for the same period of time that you were going to be in NY, or did you email regarding two separate trips? just wondering 🙂

Same period of time that i would be in NY, but I sent them 2 weeks apart. For dull disclosure: I am interviewing at NYU in mid novemeber (was invited late september). I emailed Cornell on 10/15 asking for an interview in mid novemeber with no response at all. Emailed again 11/1 reinforcing my interest in the school, and explaining i was just following up on my first email.

got an invite 11/2 haha. I'm not sure if they are just backed up or what. Either way, I'm psyched 🙂

anyone interviewing on tuesday? 🙂

Hey, I live just up the street from Cornell - when I say dream school I mean DREAM SCHOOL!

Whats up with all these people getting interviews after sending "in the area emails?" Should I send one too? I want an interview! And I'm in the area - seriously though wtf?!? Does being local make me at a disadvantage or something?
