Yeah the Student Affairs ladies are the best, but they are always super busy. They are all great folks, in fact, they are hosting a little holiday party for us tomorrow! It doesn't hurt to shoot them an email, but I'd hesitate to call (calling is always a bad idea in med school, people are too busy to work on other's schedules, faculty and staff included). Don't be pushy in the email, if anything be excited to get an interview...

As mentioned, it takes a few weeks for them to place you into an interview. But I know waiting feels like a circle of hell...

Still on hold after the re-review last week...🙁 Anyone know what happens now? Does that mean I won't hear anything until after all the interviews are done?

Hey guys, I found out that UKCOM's ADCOM is meeting tomorrow the 16th - the last meeting for this year. The admissions office would close from the 20th of December to the 3rd of January. Hopefully, those of you who have interviewed and are waiting to hear will receive good news before the office closes. Also, if you have questions for the admissions office, make sure to email them by Friday the 17th. Good luck everyone!

I was in the same boat. I emailed, and heard that Robin Rankin is the person in charge and to get in touch with her, only to hear from her that she would get to me in due time. They have not forgotten you, just be patient. It took me about 4 weeks between when my status changed on the website and when I actually scheduled an interview.

thanks for the info. i emailed jodi and she told me i would hear from robin....emailed robin and still haven't heard back from her. also called the office with no answer, so left a message on their voicemail and no response! sigh. playing the waiting game sucks. it's been about three weeks now, so hopefully i'll hear by next week at least! i think they are booked all the way into feb by now. 🙁

what time they usually call you?? :scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared::scared:

I'm scared too!! Did you interview on the 7th? I've known of people getting called as late as 7 pm

no, I had my interview on 10th, OMG 7? 😱

Still not heard anything back about my re-review status, so I assume that I got put back on hold after the committee meeting. Just sent in my Letter of Interest, so hopefully that'll help a little! The more I think about it, the more I feel like UK is where I want to be.

They called me at about 4 pm. Though I was driving on the highway I saw the area code and I had to pick up! I ended up missing the exit I was supposed to take and got stuck in the worst traffic jam of my life 😀 How did you interview go?

nburnett3, I honestly want you to get accepted and I hope it happens soon. So why UK? I know you have been accepted to Louisville. What attracts you to UK?

Just got the call...ACCEPTED!! 🙂

Good Luck to everyone else!

Well, didn't get the call, hopefully that doesn't mean rejection. I had my heart set on UK🙁🙁

Thanks a bunch, man. I hope so too. The only really big thing is just me looking for a change of scenery. I'm a Louisville undergrad, and I like it and all, but I want to experience something different. There are lots of little reasons why I liked UK over U of L (at least from what I saw on interview day), but enough little reasons that they add up to make UK a better fit for me. Anyway, here's to hoping we'll be classmates in August! And congrats to everyone else who's been accepted!

I haven't been on here in a while so I am just seeing his. CONGRATS!!! I'm so looking forward to meeting you.

Thanks Mccarty7...honestly I was wondering where you've been. Would you be at the reception in January?

Yes!...let's just wait and see...hopefully you'll get the call within a couple of months!

so my interviewer called me this morning to tell me I have been accepted! I'm super excited, I love UK 🙂

Thank you! Is everyone going to the program Jan. 8 ? I can't wait to meet everyone 🙂

on hold for RPLP, I have rural experience in middle east not in Canada or US so I am not good enough for their program, but they told I am in good hold, if it matters or not🙁, my parents are moving to kentucky and I dont know what to do, If anyone in RPLP decided to withdraw let me know

goat1360, sorry to hear this. Hopefully, the good hold would turn into an acceptance. Pray!

Hey guys My name is Nathan Harris. I haven't posted on here. Honestly, I didn't think I would get accepted, but I did! haha it's funny the way the world turns sometimes. Congrats to everyone who got accepted, and good luck to those still waiting!

I will not be attending the Jan. 8th program, because I have already booked a trip to Vegas with my friends before the spring semester starts up, but I am an undergrad at UK, and would love to get to know some future classmates. PM me, facebook me, its very nice to meet you all! haha

Happy Holidays!
Nathan

Hey everyone! To all those that have been accepted to UK and plan on going, dont forget to join the facebook group. It's University of Kentucky College of Medicine Class of 2015. Great way to meet our future classmates!

Hi guys,
I was invited for an interview on Feb 12. Unfortunately, i have something really important that I can't miss on that date. Would anyone be kind enough to switch the date for me? Maybe some of the people on Feb 8th can switch! Please help me out and let me know if there is anyone out there that have such flexible schedule. Please email me at [email protected] for further discussion if you guys are willing to switch.
Regards,
Nat

hey nat, this is sort of irrelevant to your post, but i was just wondering when you got the interview invite? I've been waiting on them to schedule mine for the last 3-4 weeks and still haven't heard anything, which is why i ask. did you get the email recently? how long did it take from the time that your status changed to "interviews to be scheduled" to when they actually emailed you? thanks in advance.

It took them a month 🙁 my status changed around october, I didnt get the email with the confirmed date until end of nov-dec 🙂 You are okay. I called and ask about the rumor "any interview after Jan is for alternating list" . They said that rumor is not true

Congrats to all those with acceptances!!!

For those lucky few that have received acceptances to both UK and UofL and decided/leaning toward UK would you share some of your thoughts? ..even the smallest reasons

Thats a great question! I'd be interested to hear that myself from everyone. For me, I chose UK over UofL for several reasons.
1)I already go to UK and love Lexington so it would be nice to not have to move 😉
2)I loved the people I met.
3)I feel more connected to the people of UK. I get a lot of emails from UK asking how its going and do I need anything and here is a scholarship application. Its great. I feel like I'm not just a student but a priority and important. I haven't received one thing from UofL
4)I got into the rural program at UK so that pretty much sealed the deal 🙂

thanks! glad to hear that the rumor isn't true... makes waiting a little less nerve wracking since apparently they're booked until feb now. :/

A big thing for me choosing between the two was the differences in curriculum. UK has sort of a block scheduling of classes where you only focus on a couple of subject areas at a time. I think this is a great way to manage the massive amounts of information you have to learn in the first two years. Not to mention their schedule is 8-12 which gives you plenty of time to study or do other activities that UK offers in the afternoon. Also, I have done a lot of shadowing at the UK Chandler hospital and was really impressed with how helpful the doctors are and how interested they are in making sure the students learn and understand.

Yes, the curriculum definitely works for me and the 8-12 noon schedule is really appealing. I do realize that we would have clinical classes 1 afternoon a week and there is also physician shadowing. Not sure if the physician shadowing is required or optional.

On a different note, I received my conditional acceptance letter in the mail today. Someone please confirm that there is not a deposit required at this time. Did I see right? Do we pay the deposit after we receive the final acceptance letter?

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Merry Christmas to you too!

I don't know about the deposit thing, I sent mine in with the first acceptance letter. If I were you, to be safe, I would just call or email the office (they are closed until the 3rd, so don't worry about it till then) and ask Kim or Carol (whichever you know best).

I did EDP at UK, so I can't tell you why I chose b/w UK and UL... but if you want, I could tell you why I think I made the right choice...

Ok, I'll find out next year. I actually think that they would ask for it with the final letter, which would come after a successful background check.
Yes, why do you think you made the right choice? Tell us about UK...thanks!

I called the admissions office a while back about the seat deposit. They said there was not a seat deposit this year.

UK has the most amazing faculty and staff you will ever find. The student affairs ladies (they are all ladies) are like family members. They are just loving and friendly and always have food. Dr. Cheever and Dr. Griffith (who are the dean of students, and basically handle everything student related) are the most welcoming, understanding, genuine people you will meet.

The block scheduling is the best thing that as ever happened to me. In the past two years I have managed to live a VERY normal life, and I get 10 hours of sleep a day as needed. I feel like the blocks are designed to really give me the opportunity to learn from the best and dive in to each subject and really get a firm conceptual hold of it.

The patients we get at Chandler are among the sickest you will find anywhere in the country. And as both an L1 trauma center and academic medical center you get to see patients from all walks of life and in all stages of disease, both common and rare diseases.

ICM (how to be a doc class) gets better each block. I feel very well prepared for 3rd year and I really have enjoyed the process... it was stress free and fun (really).

My class is very giving and friendly. We aren't too cliquey and despite a handful of gunners, we all share resources and try to help each other out. This is just something that does not happen at other medical schools.

I really feel like I am getting the better education of all of my friends at other medical schools. The opportunities for involvement, the clinical involvement and teaching early, the facilities, the support staff and the students really make this place better.

I can't overstate how important the curriculum is, and the support that the dean of students and student affairs provides. I don't know of any other school that actually listens to students and changes both the curriculum and faculty every year. The recommendations we made at the end of M1 were fixed for the next years class.

I could probably go on. The truth of the matter is, if you are in between two schools, talk to a couple med students from each. Judge which one seems happier about their choice. It won't even be close.

BTW, PM me if you have any other questions, want to talk about this or whatever. I've taken up too much space on this forum anyway!

Maiden, I didn't send in a deposit either because Kim said there wasn't one this year. Is anyone bringing someone with them to the Jan. 8 meeting? Does anyone know the dress code?

I will be brining my wife to the Jan. 8th meeting.

I was wondering about the dress code as well...anyone have a clue?

No dress code. Wear slacks and a polo or something like that if you want to look nice. No ties or anything like that. The whole thing is pretty casual. You'll listen to a few speeches, a panel, a talk on financial aid then recess into a room to meet other students, buy tshirts (if you want), meet faculty and staff, and EAT. Also, a few of us old folks will be there to talk to you and assuage some worries and answer questions. Who knows, I may even show up... free food after all!
