I'm interviewing in Sept...I know there host list isn't up yet, but how likely is it that I will find a host? I don't want to be in a situation where all the close (non-expensive) hotels are full and I have no host.

Fear not! You will get a host.😀

They just sent us MS1s an email last week asking us if we would like to be hosts for interviewees. When I put myself on the list it was already up to 15 hosts, so I think you will be alright.

interview invite!

submitted 7/24
complete 7/25
invite 7/25

gotta love the instant feedback
wooooooooooo!

how much of a stickler are they with the 2 week turnaround time?

It is not a hard and fast rule, so much as a generally good idea. The sooner you get it in, the less competition for interview spots you'll have, right?🙂:luck:

I agree. Also, if you are unable to explain something so others can understand, it's not that they're stupid, it's that you can't articulate yourself well enough to explain something complex in laymens terms. That's an important part of being a physician.

How's high school working out for you?

yay I'm so happy 😀

Does anyone know if there's an easy way to get from Cleveland to Columbus? I have an interview at ohio state and it'd be awesome if I only had to make one trip out to ohio. thanks!

Um, d00ds, he is talking in reference to the discussion just one page or so ago about what level of terminology to use in discussing research in your secondary essay on research.
Rephrasing his words:
You need to know how to explain complex concepts in simpler terminology to patients in order to be an effective physician, and therefore this (secondary essay) is a perfect opportunity to show you can do that well.
👍

For the research essay, should we cite background information that serves as an introduction to the project?

Submitted. Jesus, that took forever (applied to both University and College). I hope to hear some good news soon (stats similar to those with IIs), but it seems that CCLCMers have to wait a bit longer? Anyone have an idea when they'll start looking at apps?

The research essay should be self-contained and completely answer the prompt. The reviewer is not going to have time to read background literature. Furthermore, as mentioned elsewhere, this is not a re-print of your abstract of a publication.

Yes, people who apply to both should chillax a little knowing it takes time. They will start extending the first interviews in a week or so.

It's interesting to note how my anxiety has increased by several magnitudes after I saw that my application was complete yesterday.

Also, on a completely unrelated topic, are there many clinical trials ongoing at Case/CCLCM that would pay for research subjects? I'm at UMich and there are way more people here willing to sell me their blood than needed. Since CWRU is much smaller, maybe test subjects are harder to find (= more $$$ for a poor med student)?

Planning on submitting later today or tomorrow, but still need to wait for 1 LOR.

Indeed it is interesting to note the posting rate - which I propose is a proxy for estimating the applicant anxiety levels. Can you tell I just got out of stats seminar? 😉

😕 I am not sure if you are hoping to make more as a med student selling yourself, or complaining about having to pay more for blood for personal use while you are in Cleveland? 😛

I just did a random walk 20 feet to the bulletin board here in the student lounge and there are two studies enrolling patients currently posted. The elevator has one for $10. It won't pay the bills, if you are wondering. 🙂

Listen, there is a metric crap-ton of research going on here in Cleveland. Michigan is a research powerhouse, I'll grant you that (I know, I used to be at "umich"). But we are no slouches. Between Metro health, The VA, University Hospitals (including Rainbow Babies), Cleveland Clinic, and various private R&D companies it is safe to say there are TONS of clinical trials going on here. Hope that helps.

Interview invite!! Submitted on 7/22. Case W. is fast!!!

I was hoping to make some extra cash and banking on a decreased student population (ie competition) available for trials... plus, how can I call myself a clinical scientist if I'm not willing to put myself up for it? And I'm totally not a vampire, no sir 😀

I ran into a guy who is studying to become a "medical translator". He explained that his function is to explain to patients what the doctor is saying in terms they can understand.😱 Physician heal thyself?

I think the most I've seen around here is $15. Case needs more sleep studies. Those things pay bank.

Well, the ones I'm thinking about pay you $900 to _not_ sleep, but give you all the tv and videogames you want.

For $900 + tv and videogames I would stay up for a very long time

I do that for free! Clearly I am not utilizing my insomnia to its fullest potential.

But why would you do that for free when you could do that for $900? I really, really should've done that one.

Interview invite! Sent at 8:00 PM today, was complete yesterday. Got to love that turn around time. If this thread is a good representation of the school, I'll be in for a great time.

hey, mine was sent at 8pm too! Maybe that's their magical time?

Anyone who applied to CCLM get even a normal Case interview yet?

Or do we only get called once both CCLM and Case make up their minds about interviewing?

This explains why they're taking so long... sorry, impatient lol

You'll find it varies throughout the year. It's a magical time for you, though!

Once both programs have made a decision on your app, you'll hear:luck::xf:😀 from us.

Patience!

As I mentioned on my twitter account, it'll be a week more before CCLCM starts inviting to interviews. If I hear any different I will tweet it.

In addition to what Myuu said, I expect thw first round of invites to be for CCLCM (CP) -only applicants. Once again, when I swing by admission if I find out more ill tweet it quickly.

I apologize if this has already been addressed, but I do not have time to read this entire thread. I am not sure if I have something to write for Case's scholarly work essay. The only paper I can think of that I've written that can be considered scholarly was for a history course my sophomore year. I studied women and the desegregation of DC restaurants. From the literature, I was able to map out how the restaurants desegregated over time and that led me to some conclusion. I forget exactly what else, I will need to find the paper somewhere, but my professor loved it and remembered it years later when I needed a recommendation. Would this work for case?

Sounds cool to me.

Is the quick turn around time for UP? Should I be worried if I submitted a few days sfo and haven't heard anything?

Indeed, that would be personalized medicine, right? 😛
I'm in my public secret hiding spot right now. 😏 (PBL#2)
We are having an activity fair for the first year students today! Yay! Lot of student run groups!

Does that have a particular numerical designation you'd like to make me aware of, or am I going to have to ninja it up? I should warn you that this particular ninja is both tired and caffeine-fueled. Your mileage may vary. Member FDIC. This offer not valid in VT, TX, CA, or the territories. Do not operate heavy machinery while under the influence of this ninja. Not redeemable for cash.

Rad rounds at 1600. Unlikely to be set loose on the unsuspecting populace until after its conclusion. Previous attempts at telecommunications have not been met with success. Suggested best means of contact with the natives? First contact protocol is in effect.

OK, captain. Radio shot - will relocate three clicks north of here (November Alpha Five) at 1630 till 1830. Food may be scarce close to 1830, but you never know. Quick and the hungry, right? Quicker you are, less hungry you'll be. 😉 Come in low and slow, Case students will be at the LZ too, so you will have plausibility for being there.
