2 questions:

1.) I would be graduating undergrad May 2013, and applying to schools somewhere between May-August 2013 (depending when I take my MCAT). (Hoping to start med school in Fall 2014) I would be moving from my homestate, to IN right after I graduate (to stay with my girlfriend's family during my off year). Would this consider me as in-state? I would be living in IN during my off year after I graduate no matter where I get accepted.

2.) If I were to get accepted to IU, do you have a choice of what campus you do your pre-clinical years (I heard all MS3&4 students are at the Indy campus)

Did anyone else get the email about the IUSM Campus Webinars? Is this an email that is sent out to all applicants?

I was gonna ask the same thing. I got the email from [email protected]. Have you been interview/accepted yet? I interviewed in September, but I haven't heard about a final decision.

Yes, I did receive the e-mail from [email protected] regarding information about the different campuses. I also interviewed in September and I am awaiting a response. I guess these webinars are for general information? Any other guesses?

Got it too, post interview here as well.

My guess is they either had this planned, or put it together because they were getting a lot of requests for campus info from people who were accepted and had a hard time choosing/finding info to help them choose.

Got the webinar e-mail post-interview as well, with no acceptance yet. I guess it is for everyone to see.

How long before the interview do they send an option for student hosts? Mine is in 2 weeks

Are you Jan 25th as well?

Yup 😎

I've heard nothing about student hosting, but I'm probably just going to get a hotel. I tend to get neurotic and lose the ability to fall asleep if there's people I don't know in the same area. I usually get paranoid about them taking pictures of me sleeping, it's happened enough times in the past.

Unless imbibing in particular beverages is involved...

What's this interview like? Open/closed? 1 interviewer/panel?

I interview here next Wednesday. What did people think of the school?

Thanks 🙂

Completely understand. In college we never closed our room doors so our hallmates would sneak in and draw obscene things on your hands and forehead and take photos which were later posted on the bulletin board!

Hopefully med students are more mature though. I will probably just book a hotel myself. I am happy the interview is at noon though because I usually take a while to sleep before big days. So at least I can sleep later.

I recommend the University Place hotel that is on the IUPUI campus. It is like a 10 minute walk to your interview:

Well now you're just making me jealous! I have to check in by 8:15. in the morning. This school semester has me starting classes no earlier than 1pm every day, so it's going to be rough haha.

2 days ago, I withdrew from my interview on 1/25. I hope someone gets it in time. 😛

Ha iamhippo I might have been the one who got your old interview spot😉

Quick question, I am new here so bare with me. This may be a stupid question, but for the letters of evaluation form we need to fill out in the supplemental information, does this mean we have to have NEW letters of rec on top of those we already sent into AMCAS? Or do we just put down the information for the people that wrote them for our AMCAS? Sorry for the stupid question!

Hey not a stupid question at all. I was confused about that as well. I called the admissions office yesterday and they said to write down the 3 evaluators whose letters you want to represent you, send the form back and they will only print those 3 for your interview.

You can call them to confirm. They are pretty quick with responding.

Is anyone else who interviewed early Oct. still waiting to hear back?

I interviewed in late September and I am still waiting. The way the review process works means that we may still have a long wait ahead of us. Has anyone heard of rejections or waitlists yet?

I actually called to ask about hearing back - I also interviewed in September. They said the committee should make a decision on my application by January. (I'm assuming I'll hear from them in a few days via snail mail... but you never know.)

Hi,
thanks for calling. When you asked about the decision, was it just a general reply or did they also take your AMCAS ID, name and pull out your specific file? Also, was your interview in late or early September? IU is one of the last two schools I still have a direct acceptance shot at, and I am trying to keep my hopes up 😳

I called last month and yes, I gave them my AMCAS ID. So they must have looked it up. They told me the admissions committee had not yet made a decision on my application 😕. I interviewed late September. Surprisingly, I had an atypical interview. Stressful to say the least.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm waiting to hear back from IU and one other school. I'm sure we'll both hear back soon. The stress of waiting is getting to me - it's been about 4 months since I've interviewed. Try and keep the hopes up. Good luck! :luck:

I called them this morning and the lady on the phone said my application was still under consideration - I guess I was passed over this round. My interview was pretty stressful too, but there was no need to be stressed. I just psyched myself out before entering the room.

Does anyone mind sharing their interview experience? If you don't mind, please PM me. Thanks in advance.

Just interviewed MSTP on 1/18 and 1/19. If anyone has any questions about that process, feel free to PM me

I got the good news Wednesday via e-mail. I was completely NOT expecting this! WOO HOO! This is definitely the top school I interviewed at!

Interviewed 9/Nov/2011

:luck::luck::luck:Good luck everybody! :luck::luck::luck:

Congrats! Do you mind sharing your interview experience as a follow OOS candidate? What sort of stuff did they ask?

I got two emails today, one with campus preference instructions and one detailing the technical standards for admission. No acceptance email or acceptance in the mail as of yet. Does this mean acceptance?

Same situation for me. The tone of the campus preference email made it seem like an acceptance.

Same for me. Do these emails get sent out to all applicants?

Apparently the acceptance packet came in the mail today to my permanent address. So if you got those emails you are in!

Congratulations!! I hope I also get some good news in the mail today 🙂

Sure. I actually was able to stay with someone at the school, which turned out to be great for me. They showed me around and gave me a pretty good idea of what life would be like should I attending at the Indianapolis Campus.

I was supposed to be interviewed by two people (Both MDs) but it turned out that my second interviewer was out of the country on some service mission. So it was just me and my interviewer talking for 30-40 min about myself and my application. He was really great and I felt like I was able to make a really good connection with him. He actually told me that he felt I was a great candidate and if I didn't get accepted, it would probably be due to my MCAT score.

All of the questions were pretty typical IMO. He asked where I thought I'd be in 10 years, why I want to be a Doctor, why IU, what I want to specialize in...everything else was questions stemming from things that he found interesting in my application.

From what he told me, when they get together each month to decide on who to accept, they will have a chance to present to the whole AdCom who their applicants are and have to be able to answer any questions that the Adcom might have regarding your application. It truly felt like he wanted to get to know who I was as a person and I really appreciated that. I have to say, overall, I had a great experience there and I felt that I represented myself the best that I could at the interview.

Does anyone who already submitted the campus preference form and chose the regional route know when they mail out letters letting us know where we're at? Thanks!

Thank you so much. Two days away. Now I am sweating.

Take a deep breath and relax. The interview at IUSM is nothing to worry about. Just try and stay calm. The interviewers from my experience and others I've talked to are all pretty nice and they don't ask many difficult questions. They just want to get to know you so my advice is be you and answer the questions to the best of your ability.

Honestly the worst part is the wait post interview...I interviewed a few months ago and still haven't heard back

I am relaxed now. Just had a early week, OMG my interview is this week.

Ugh... this wait is killing me. I interviewed early October, called the admissions office today, and was informed "your file has not been reviewed yet at this time" without any indication of when it will be. I feel like I'm being set up for a late cycle rejection.

On a related note, how is each interviewer's assessment presented to the admissions committee? Is it a written report?

Has anyone here considered/applied for the rural medicine program? Any medical students currently in the program who can answer a few questions?

The way it was described to me, is that the folks that interviewed you will present you to the entire committee. I took this to mean that the committee will be given your file and your interviewers will get the chance to offer insight into their 'feel' for you as a candidate, what the interviewers chicken scratch notes mean, and their perspective on your ability to succeed in medical school.

I see, but that's why I'm concerned. If I interviewed in early October, how the heck is my interviewer going to remember me well enough to be a strong advocate when they finally review my file?
