Yes, I did apply. I had my traditional interview yesterday. According to the website, the rural med interview is conducted once, Feb 22nd. I was just wondering how long till we get an invitation. Have you had your traditional interview yet?

does anyone know what day of the month the admissions committee meets with the faculty interviewers to discuss the applicants?

For those of you interested, here is a link to a blog written by a current MS1er at the IUSM-Muncie Campus. It is a little more entertaining than educational, but includes some insights into the life of a first year medical student at IU.

I see, but that's why I'm concerned. If I interviewed in early October, how the heck is my interviewer going to remember me well enough to be a strong advocate when they finally review my file?

I am pretty sure that the interviewer writes a paragraph or so regarding his/her impressions of the applicant, the potential to succeed in medical school etc.

During an admissions cycle, each member of the admissions board is assigned a particular number of applications. Each member reviews the assigned application(s) and when its up for consideration the board member gives a very systematic breakdown of everything in the file - from MCAT scores, to GPA, to quotes from the interviewers' feedback etc. All of this is done within a set timeframe so equal consideration is given to all.

At least that’s what I understand is the flow of the admissions process. I could be totally wrong.

Did everybody receive an email about status today?

Yeah, I had my IU interview on Jan 11th. I haven't heard either way yet about the rural med interview invite. I think the timeline on that goes more with when we submitted our rural med app and not when our traditional interview was, and I submitted mine pretty recently. Hopefully we both get invites soon! 🙂

first you should probably learn the name of the school  (indiana university). then you can use that name to check the interview feedback on sdn for questions (http://more.studentdoctor.net/schools/school/iusm/survey/26). the ones listed on there in recent years are extremely typical if not identical to what you will encounter.

I think we should hear back soon since they interview all the rural applicants in late Feb. Good luck! Maybe I'll see you there!

Did anyone whowas accepted in December get notice of their campus placement yet??

Does everyone get this email before their application is reviewed by the committee?

I believe so, the email says that your application is eligible for review by the committee and that a decision will be made on the 15th of that particular month or the months following. I got the email a few days ago and interviewed a couple weeks ago.

Interviewed on the 25th of January. I haven't gotten that email as yet. O well, guess maybe next month for me.

I'm confused by that as well...My interviewer specifically stated that she would have me reviewed the 15th of Feb (interviewed 25th as well). Hmmmm....I guess I'll call today.

Found out anything? were you in the morning or evening interview group?

I called on Thursday and the woman told me it's up in the air. They don't always send emails to applicants that are getting their application reviewed. She said my file was complete (my interviewer's notes were already in), but it was up in the air whether or not I'd be reviewed this Wednesday.

So basically more waiting and seeing. I've gotten so good at that...

I interviewed in the earliest time slot, and then I got to sit and wait in the lovely waiting area with the broken chair XD

Has anyone called the admissions office on the 15th and asked for their status? I'd rather know today rather than wait for the mail if possible. Not sure if they allow that, though.

Hello guys and gals! I am in the same boat as many of you and just waiting for a response from IUSM. I am actually in the MSMS program at the school and that makes the waiting game even more difficult because I pass IU medical students everyday! Oh, and I interviewed on January 11th, 2012.

I just got the email today that my application is now eligible for review and that decision notices are mailed on the 15 th of every month.

Let the nervousness begin.

FYI--I called and they wouldn't give me any information. Here's to waiting!

I interviewed today and I loved my experience. My interviewer was awesome and so were all the students that I met. I was wondering if some of you that get good news this round could post your stats? My interviewer made the comment that my 3.7/3.9 31M might not make the cut...Is IU really getting that much more competitive?

Was he joking? That's not really a nice to say after an interview.. I don't think you have to worry. you are in state too!

I didn't think he was joking, he told me I applied kind of late and that could keep me out this year and if I don't get in I should apply first thing next year and I would probably get in. I was just kind of surprised by that comment because I thought I was pretty competitive for an IS applicant. Maybe he just said it to keep me on my toes.

Do you have to have strong ties to Indiana to be seriously considered? I interviewed back in October, OOS with no ties, and have yet to hear a word. This is an excruciatingly long wait.

I'm in in the same boat (OOS, no super strong ties)...Interviewed early November and still no word. I still haven't even gotten the email saying "your file is now ready for review".

Is this common for OOS'ers? Maybe they consider us all together at the end?

It's good to know I'm not the only one, although I did receive the email indicating my file was ready for review. I know adcoms must feel that IS applicants are far more likely to attend if accepted, but I'm hoping they give us serious consideration as well. I wouldn't have taken time off work and flown to Indiana if I wasn't very interested in their school.

I called and they said decisions would be made today. Emails will be sent out next week along with letter packets. They said they can't divulge if your file was reviewed but that's probably because they rarely if ever reject at this point.

I am OOS. I interviewed on Jan 25th. I just got the email that said my file was ready for review today. I would probably call and ask about your status since it has been 3 months.

Interviewed on Jan 25. OOS, ties to state. No email today...which means...?

They are sending out an email too? I didn't realize they did that. Any idea which day or were you just told "sometime next week"?

It might also depend on how quickly your interviewer puts together your summary to present to the adcom. Not sure though.

Hey,

Did the admin folks say they rarely reject at this point or is that your own opinion?

Just curious...when did you receive the "file is ready for review" email? Soon after your interview or more recently?

I just got file complete email today. Now I am curious if my file being ready today means that I will here back on the next 15th of the month....

Yeah didn't know what it meant either. I didn't know if it meant i was being reviewed yesterday or March 15th

Hope it was yesterday. I don't want to wait a whole month to hear back.

I'm oos, interviewed in August and didn't get reviewed before the October 15th disclosure. When I don't hear, I wondered why and then thought maybe because something was sent in late (my school took forever I send the dean's letter). Anyway, I got in in November. Them point to this is no, oos isn't reviewed at the end and maybe your file just wasn't ready.

3 (2 OOS) out of 10 people from my class who interviewed in January received EMAILS today regarding their acceptance. I was reading old posts and it seems like some people receive emails and others receive their acceptances via mail? I am one of those 10 people so a little nervous over here!

As of today (2/17) I received my acceptance email today!
