what a wild ride. got rejected a couple of weeks ago. then monday got an email saying that was a mistake. now today was offered an interview on 8/31!

this will be my first one this cycle (i feel like i'm in tron every time i say that word).

look forward to meeting all others interviewing that day!

Received the 8/31 email. Just mailed my Dean of Students evaluation to my Dean today. IU won't have it until next week at the earliest. They clearly do not wait for all of the materials before scheduling an interview.

Also, just scheduled an interview at another school yesterday for the same day. For some reason I thought IU was going to give 4 weeks notice instead of 2 weeks. I don't want to complain though considering this is a problem I never thought I would be lucky enough to have.

ill complain for ya, lol. im same, interview on 8/31. I was expecting them to not schedule one since I didnt submit those documents. i was doing it on purpose to delay it but that failed haha. i really rather have this later, im gonna try and see if i can push it later altho of course its hard to do. it was an unpleasant surprise to learn they dont accomodate the OOS students with an overnight host and just tell to stay at a local hotel or w/e.

obv im lucky to have the interview at all but bc i have limited financial resources for traveling to interviews (assuming (somewhat dangerous) i will get more in the future since its still early) so i may just pass since it was rather low on my list. if i do that itd be ironic if i wind up getting in no where

Nice. Just got the email too. Looks like I'll have some company on the 31st. Looking forward to meeting everybody.

Yes! I had just scheduled my interview with my in-state school for the morning of August 31. I already contacted IU and the only option they gave me was the waitlist unless I had extenuating circumstances? Does anyone know if having an interview at another school, along with nonrefundable airfare, counts as an extenuating circumstance?

Update: It does not count as an extenuating circumstance. Ugh.

Dang that sucks. You could always try rescheduling your other interview, but that's ridiculous that they do it on such short notice like that, and don't even let you reschedule.

I got an interview invite without completing the secondary. It doesn't say anywhere in the email that I need to, but that would just seem to good to be true. Should I ask or just do it?

that's weird. i'm assuming you initially got a secondary invite, you just didn't do it? if i were you i'd just complete the secondary. there's really not much to it and you don't want to possibly be screwed over later by something stupid.

Hello Everyone!

I'm pretty late in the applications game considering I just took the MCAT for the first time today. However, need some insight on whether its worth applying this cycle to IU. I am planning on submitting my app in a month. I know IU requires min. 25 MCAT score. Is that the score required to get interview? What if someone gets lower? Can they still apply?

Hey...so I'm going to be interviewing on 8/31 with a few of you guys. Aside from being shell-shocked by the short notice, I haven't really looked into any details like getting a hotel yet or anything. Cuz I've never been to Indianapolis before I'm getting in the evening before the interview and staying until midday the day after the interview just to poke around the surrounding area. I was wondering if anyone would want to go halfsies on the hotel? I'm a dude, btw.

Also, did anyone get a confirmation email once they replied to the interview invite? I haven't heard anything since; I find it bizarre.

any MSTP applicants who got a secondary/interview invite actually heard back with a date yet?

I interviewed at IU yesterday and I had a great experience. Everyone was so friendly!

Glad to hear. Any tips for those with upcoming interviews at IU?
If you're prepared to answer the typical med school interview questions you should be fine. My interview had a very conversational feel so it was overall pretty relaxed.

Did anyone else also choose to be put on the waitlist for another interview date? I was assigned 8/31 but I can't do it so I told them to put me on the list.

Anyone know if we could leave our luggage somewhere during our interview?

The hotel I'm staying at (< 1 mile from campus) says they can hold mine till after the interview.

I got put on the wait list. They emailed me a week later with a new date (a week later...)

Hey Guys!

So I just felt the urge to get on here and sell IUSM a little bit after my recent experience. I applied and got in last cycle, started school this semester, and quickly (in less than two weeks) realized that I was not ready to make the lifelong commitment to medicine. To say that IU was accommodating with my somewhat late decision to reconsider my options is a huge understatement--they quickly granted me a personal leave of absence for a year to decide whether I wanted to come back or not, allowing me to investigate both medical and non-medical career avenues. Not only that, they refunded virtually all of my tuition and fees.

Now, I am not at all recommending anyone do what I have done--in fact, I have wasted both time and money, along with accepting a seat that will now go unfilled which could have gone to a candidate who was more certain in their desires to become a physician--but mostly I wish to convey that IU is an extremely accommodating institution and a pleasure to work with. I feel that if I do come back to medical school in a year, I will be very happy to return to IU.

This may or may not have any bearing on your decisions, but I think my story says a lot about the school. They are more concerned with the student's personal happiness and fulfillment in life, whether that be in medicine or not, than they are with churning out physicians, irrespective of their desires.

Rejected today! First one! OOS applicant. Not particularly surprised or hurt. Best of luck to everyone still in the running!

Me too!!! For the rejection!!!

I'm also OOS, but I thought living in Ohio was considered practically having ties to Indiana 😀

Good luck to you and everyone else!

Sorry to hear about that guys 🙁
May I ask when you received the screening e-mail? I just received it and I'm hoping to know when I can expect to hear back. Thanks and good luck with your other schools!

i got the screening email 8/8. rejected 8/30

for in-staters, how long after you got verified did it take to get a secondary? Verified on Aug 25th but havent heard anything.

Hey,
So I just got the packet of materials and I see that they require 1 non-science and 1 science LOR. Do you think they will make an exception for me since I am 6 years out of school and did my prereqs as a post-bacc? I have 2 science letters and 2 employer letters and all of the other schools have been fine with that. I called them, but they are on weekend I think already.

I'm sure they'll let you use two science letters... they sent me the following email because I accidently wrote down my committee letter writer as a reference (not realizing that she didn't actually include any of her own comments)

"Please respond as soon as possible to this email by providing the name of another individual that you would like to use as your non-science requirement. Also please let me know the title of the course you took with that individual. You may substitute an additional science evaluator in place of a non-science professor."

Also, for those of you wondering... my AMCAS was verified 6/20; I received the supplemental information email on 7/18; got my interview invite on 8/10, and interviewed on 8/24

Ugh... I have five letters of recommendation - 4 science, 1 non-science. Does not having a personal evaluation preclude me from submitting my secondary?

Has anyone received an interview date for anytime in September? I received my supplemental materials on the 18th of July and have not heard since. I did ask for a later interview though.

Thanks

Just received an interview invite for September 28th. Hope to see some of you there!

Would anyone who has interviewed here already care to comment on the process? I'm a little confused by the scheduling email's: "your interview will be at xx AM". Are we only there for a single interview? Are there other general interview activities (tour, fin aid presentation, etc.). Also, any recommendations on where to stay?

They have a couple group sessions (financial aid and general info/QA but no tour given the fact that there are 9 different campuses).

You have 1 interview with 2 individuals.

I got hosted by a student (I wrote the admission ambassadors about getting hooked up with someone).

Also, there is a bus if you get in early enough and are willing to walk a mile from the med school to the bus stop ($7.00 per way compared to the $35.00 for a taxi... )

Hope this helps and feel free to PM me if you have more questions.

You will interview with two people at the same time. I was interviewed by a medical student and a faculty member but I think that some of the other interviewees were interviewed by two faculty members.
There is a financial aid session and then a general information session that includes a panel of medical students from various campuses.
I stayed at the university's hotel which was pretty convenient because of its location. also they let me wait until after my interview to check out which was nice

Add me to the September 28th group! Congrats to everyone! See you all on the 28th.

For those that received their interview invite yesterday for Sept 28- on what date did you receive your verified/screening email? Thanks so much!!

AMCAS Verified 6/15
Indiana Receipt/Screening 7/26
Indiana Supplemental Materials 8/12

AMCAS verified 6/29
Receipt notification 7/26
Supplemental materials request 8/12
Interview invite 9/7

oops-thanks for the replies but I asked the wrong question! I meant to ask when the latest batch of rejection vs supplemental materials emails were given out and when those people received their screening email. I received my screening email on August 11th and still have not heard back. Thank you!!

So I hate to be "that guy", but I am kind of confused. I just received a packet of supplemental materials. Does that mean that I have an interview? If so, when should I expect to find out the date?

If you received the supplemental materials that means you get an interview. You will receive the actual interview invite (with date and time information) two weeks before your interview.

Congrats! When did you get the notification of screening e-mail? Like the one telling you that they downloaded your primary app?

Nice!! Thanks for the info!

Thanks! I'm really excited, I would love to go to this school! I received the notification of the screening e-mail on 7/27 but was put on hold on 8/20 until my new MCAT scores came back. My new scores came back on 09/07 and I just received the supplemental material today.

Congrats! When did you get the notification of screening e-mail? Like the one telling you that they downloaded your primary app?
