ur SO will need some king of security bracelet or pass which you can get at the front desk of reed hall...elevators have no security, but make sure ur SO keeps her security bracelet at hopkins security requires it whenever you enter any building
I've been complete since mid-August. Can anybody share any insight into how normal it is to not hear back for so long? Anybody else in my same boat?
Do you really think so? What exactly are "silent" rejections again? Is that where they pretty wait, for whatever reason, until very late in the game to reject us? I sure do hope you're wrong my friend!

It sounds like you're being sarcastic...but yes, that's what a silent rejection is, they wait until the end of the cycle to reject you.
Has anyone who submitted their secondary in November received a complete email?
I submitted the secondary application on 11/3, and haven't gotten the "complete" email yet.Submitted 11/21 Complete 12/20

What is the best way to get from the airport to Reed Hall? I'd like to avoid taxi if possible ... Google Maps mentions a light rail - anyone on this forum use it to get to JHU?
Eleanor, there is a shuttle van that I paid, $23 plus tip each way. I don't remember what the name was, but it can be found on the BWI website. I heard after the fact that there is a shuttle service that just services JHU and is $24 round trip, but I don't have any info on that. If you are arriving after dark, I would take the shuttle instead of the light rail if funds are not an issue.
Edit: I believe taxi service was quoted "approx" $38 each way.
I have never heard of a JHU-specific shuttle although that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. The name of the shuttle mentioned earlier is the SuperShuttle. Personally, I would recommend the MARC train if you are using public transportation since it is generally faster and more convenient than the light rail. It costs a few dollars more, and you should check the schedule before flying in. You can take the Hopkins shuttle from Penn station to campus. Let me know if you want more details on how to do that. Thanks for the input! Anyone have info on this JHU shuttle? I'll start looking myself ...

Just got an interview invite for early February! wow, I seriously thought it was a lost cause already since I submitted my secondary 8/9 and was complete back in 10/3...I guess there's still hope! 🙂
I'm staying in Reed Hall later this week. I think they said towels were pretty small so it's good idea to bring your own. For those that have stayed there, anything else you wish you had brought?
Nope, dorm style all the way.Maze-like and confusing? 🙂 I thought rooms had their own bathrooms/showers?
Congrats guys. Judging by your complete dates, I wonder if they have made it through all the applicants at this time and are just going back to the pile put on hold until all applicants had been reviewed. I wonder how many interview spots are actually left at this time?
alternate list 🙁 anyone have any thoughts on this? do i have a chance?
CONGRATS!!!! me too!!
i interview on 2/10. how about you??? i thought it was a lost cause as well. woohoooo
Anyone know when the last batch of interview invitations go out? I got the complete notification on 11/15/11 and still no word 🙁
When should I worry?
Also, FYI to everyone sending update letters. I sent one to Valerie Mazza, and she said that no updates are accepted pre-interview :-/
Haha, thanks! congrats to you too!!
sad, we miss each other by a day! I'm interviewing on 2/9...anyway, good luck to ya!![]()
yeah we have to do the institutional one and need access, it's all in the med student directionsGood luck to everyone trying to get those last few interview spots!
For the financial aid, does anyone know if we have to fill out anything separate from the main FAFSA form for Hopkins?
I called admissions today and they said my application hasn't been reviewed yet. I guess I'm relieved to know I'm still in the running 🙂 (submitted 9/28, completed 12/6)
They said apps are reviewed till the end of Feb. and that they'd be interviewing through March.
It seems like the new "on campus" housing will be the 929 student apartments, which are about a block from the hospital (www.live929.com). I think the other option is to live somewhere safe and drive or take the shuttle to campus. So I have an interview at Hopkins on 1/19. I was going to stay at Reed Hall the night before, to get an idea of how I'd be living, but I just found out that they are closing Reed Hall next year. In fact, as of next year, there will be no on-campus housing at all for medical students.
This seems pretty stupid to me. Hopkins is in a terrible neighborhood of an actively dangerous city (I live about an hour south of Baltimore, so I'm familiar with the area). Where are students going to live? Who will ensure their safety?
I have to admit I'm not feeling overwhelmingly impressed by Hopkins right now. Some group of people had to sit down and decide that closing on campus housing was a good idea; if that's indicative of how intelligently Hopkins is run, or how much they care about their students, then it may not be all it's cracked up to be.
Any thoughts?
Oh. That's great, then. Funny, the person I talked to in housing didn't mention anything about this- she made it seem like students were just on their own. But these apartments look really nice.It seems like the new "on campus" housing will be the 929 student apartments, which are about a block from the hospital (www.live929.com). I wouldn't have lived in Reed anyway. Nothing is worth that![]()
Yes, I don't know where you got the information that Hopkins would not have on-campus housing, as the 929 building will be used for that purpose (they will show you the building before your interview day if you want to go see it). However, many people live in the Homewood or Mount Vernon areas which are decently safe and take the shuttle. It seems like the new "on campus" housing will be the 929 student apartments, which are about a block from the hospital (www.live929.com). +1unless you've lived in the city, i don't think you can get a "familiar" sense of living and commuting to hopkins, even if you from the greater dc/baltimore area.

Thanks for the heads up 🙂
I interviewed on Dec 16. They didn't say when we would hear back, does anyone? Isn't it around now?
