Thanks for the details! I was submitted 7/29 and still not even marked as complete =/

*shrug* I submitted before ywlke and got my complete email the day s/he received an II. I think that's pretty normal. G'luck. 🙂

I have a question for you guys. Is there somewhere on the app that I can see if I have been marked complete? I submitted 8/2 and haven't received a complete email yet.

Actually, there's a field on the front page that says: "Application Status: Completed on ____"

For anyone else who applied with a fee waiver, does it say "Application Fee: Not Received" as well?

Interview invite 9/9! Complete back in July - good luck everyone! :luck:

Me too! Didn't we get the call from Columbia on the same day, too? Super shocked and excited to be invited!!! Complete here August 5.

I just got a complete email this morning, which is disturbing considering that I had everything in about two months ago. I called the office a few weeks back and the lady was very rude and totally unhelpful.

This place BLEW MY MIND! I couldn't believe how much I loved the school from the moment I stepped on campus. Show me some love please Hopkins! :xf: 😍

Still don't have a complete email, submitted about 1.5 months ago. Emailed them two weeks ago about it but no response. Never seen an admissions office that doesn't respond to emails.

If you look at last years thread you'll see that JHU takes quite a while to complete applications. I wouldn't worry about it. I'd be willing to be most people here aren't complete yet.

I submitted 8/2 and have yet to be marked complete or receive a complete email. Anybody else in the same boat?

How did their finaid presentation seem? no merit, right?

No merit, but they said that's because everyone who goes to Hopkins should get a merit scholarship. And the difference between a 35 and a 39 is basically luck, so they don't want to award $20,000 to luck. Makes sense I guess...

BUTTTT, their finaid seemed decent even with people for parents with higher income. They make it affordable to go if you get in. 👍

I've always found that reasoning to be specious.

"They all deserve it, so let's give 'em nothing!"

hmm thanks. And yeah that mostly makes sense, but I wonder if they end up missing out on baller people who choose to go to very slightly less/equally prestigious schools for financial considerations. There can't be that many people for whom 100k is not a considerable difference...

I also get why all of these schools need parent info, but how many people are actually going to be helped for med school? My parents were always very clear that the undergrad was as far as we were going to go. Maybe it's based on the assumption that some people would have to go into more debt in undergrad than others?

+1

Although my parents have covered everything not covered by scholarships so far, they've made it clear they won't even give me their info for these financial aid forms because they don't think they should have to. I find it frustrating that, although we are all adults now, schools factor in parental funds that we may or may not have access to.

Submitted 7/29, still not complete [don't worry guys there are PLENTY of us who are not complete yet]. Patience =].

As for the parental income... I think it's totally acceptable to ask for it. There is a BIG difference between a person who has parents who make 100k a year versus 30k a year even if the parents aren't helping with tuition [like mine]. Just for starters, in 20+/- years the 100k parents will be sending some pretty nice inheritance down the line, while the 30k parents will be sending on some nice debt. Before then, the 100k parents will be living in 75k a year retirement homes while the 30k parents are coming to live with... guess who? Their medical doctor son/daughter. So yes, please give money to the kid with the 30k parents and not the 100k parents. And if you think I'm biased, my dad owns a 100+ million dollar company =/. </rant>

Too late to apply here? I want to apply out of curiosity and maybe visit and see if I like it. My numbers aren't the best 33 MCAT ~3.9 GPA..some neat healthcare experiences. Worth it or nah?

They obviously look at more than that. The 3.9 is good and the 33 doesn't disqualify you, so if you think you are well rounded aside from that then go for it.

I will confirm this on Monday, but I'm 99.9% positive that we accept community college credit

I verified with their admissions office that CC credit is accepted, and it's OK to have a 3 credit biochemistry with no lab, if that's what your school offers.

I checked with the adcom, but by the time I got back to post on SDN, the Hopkins student that posted right after me had already verified this as well! So yes, definitely apply!

Yes, it is worth it. Hopkins looks for much more than just grades and a strong MCAT. There are plenty of 3.9+ and 40+ individuals who don't even get an interview because they have no world/life experiences outside of the classroom.

I totally agree with you here. Would it be nice if we offered merit scholarships? Absolutely! But in a zero sum equation, Hopkins in principle believes in helping those financially that have the grades and everything else, but absolutely can not afford to matriculate. Also, regarding parental income, there's a difference between someone who's parents CHOOSE not to give them money towards their education, and someone who's parents CAN NOT give them anything towards their education.

Lastly, one must be constantly aware of the end results when you continue to financially reward the 'haves' in society. Often times, students with the best grades come from homes with high incomes, have been privy to the best schools (high school and college), and have had many opportunities that less fortunate individuals did not. So when you create a system that financially rewards only the top individuals, you perpetuate the cycle of rewarding the haves at the detriment of the "have nots." Its all about how an institution chooses to distribute funds in a zero sum equation!

Question - I am applying here and my AMCAS is "waiting to be verified" and has been at that phase for about three weeks. Can I complete and submit the secondary app now?

Just double checking...
it's not "too late" to submit a secondary this week right? would it be a fair/moderate disadvantage?

Finally got marked as complete.
Submitted secondary on 7/28.

Are people staying with a student host or taking advantage of the free room?

Submitted 8/2, finally received complete email 9/22...

Ooo yay! I should be receiving mine soon... complete 8/3. How exciting. I wonder how long it will take after being marked complete.

did anyone else get an email from johns hopkins saying they have been added to a listserv "for notifications?" I'm not sure what this is but im hoping its an interview listserv and not a, let;s quickly reject all these people listserv haha. :xf:

On the secondary, there is this question:
"If you interrupted your college education for a semester or longer, please describe what you did during that time."

Does this include summers?

Is your summer longer than a semester? Probably not, right?

Submitted 8/12 Marked complete 9/23! this is so exciting! =)

After you've been marked complete do things change on that initial page you get after logging in? When I log in it just says Submission Status: Submitted. I submitted 8/2 and haven't received a complete email yet.

Is Hopkins receptive to pre-interview update letters?

I wrote an article for Baltimore Fishbowl about the Johns Hopkins Medical School admissions team. I interviewed a few deans, looked at some stats, and generally poked around behind the scenes. I figured some of you might be interested, so take a look if you're so inclined!

Thanks for the terrific article. Helped to keep my mind fresh on the MORNING OF my Hopkins interview. Great job! 🙂

submitted 8/3, not marked complete yet either... oh, the waiting.

Is Hopkins receptive to pre-interview update letters?

Unfortunately, no. I contacted them to ask, and was told that update letters would only be accepted from applicants who have been offered an interview.

quick question.
I checked my online status, and it says that I was complete on sometime in August. But, I have never received a complete email, and my committee letter was actually sent in September. Does Hopkins mark you as complete even without letters?

Or, Am I not still incomplete even when it says complete on their website?

Submitted Aug 12, complete Oct 5! Getting worried they would never get to mine for a little bit there hahaha!
