Since OUWB has preliminary accreditation, they absolutely cannot go over 75 students. My guess is that they will be very careful in handing out these initial acceptances. Once May comes around, they'll have a better grasp of their retention rate and more offers will be issued then (if necessary).

I didn't hear this from the admissions office, but it's just my feeling.

accepted. just got the re-call about 25 minutes ago! I was so excited I honestly can't remember what the Dean said 🙂

Interviewed on 10/6

Congrats! I interviewed on the same day. Do you mind sharing your stats?

For anyone who ends up matriculating at OU, here's the coordinates to my favorite outdoor studying area:

42.669917, -83.142250

To get there, you have to go on the Clinton River trail, take a side path through the woods, and then cross a stream on a fallen tree bridge, and depending on the river level, you might have to jump over some water once to get to the beach peninsula. If you like studying outdoors, this place is great. It's also an awesome place for hanging out or bonfires. If you do take advantage of it, please don't be like the douche high school kids who found it this summer, and leave their trash there.

I am sooooo excited to interview here next Friday!!!!

I want to go to OUWB so badly. Hoping the interview goes great and gets me one step closer to an acceptance:xf:

Interview on 11/11? Me toooooo! See you there!😀

nothing yet Peter. I think the person above might be right about Weds being the day they meet? So I think maybe next Weds? Either way, I've been anxiously yearning for a phone call from Dean Grabowski. I've been refusing to go to the mouse lab (where I don't have reception) to do work (bad I know) for fear that I might miss one of the most important phone calls of my life. wow that sounds so dramatic. dun dun dun.

Yes I am pretty sure it is Wednesday adcom mtgs AND I believe it is every other week so.....dont expect anything next week because they met this week. It sounds like they have gotten up to the 10/6-7 interview dates only

waaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!! oct 7 was open to me when i scheduled mine! i'm breaking out into hives here!!!

Since they are up to 10/11, it looks like I got passed over (9/23). 🙁

Don't loose hope, I interviewed on 9/16, and still havnt heard anything, I think its just gonna be a lil while longer. Just chill out and hang in there, i gotta believe that they only offered a few select admission spots to 'superstars' durring these first rounds of admissions.

You can hold multiple acceptances to MD schools till May 15th. After that, you can only hold one spot at a time.

thanks! seems like a bit of a goofy question, now that i understand the answer 😳

interviewing in t-5 days. such a great mix of excitement and terror, ha! anyone else for november 11th??

Does anyone know if you get "passed over" after an interview if they review you every Wed that the adcom meets? I interviewed 8/26, so I don't really know when to expect them to really look at my app again..

I highly doubt anyone knows the answer to this question, but if you haven't received an acceptance, it probably means they want to compare you against others who interviewed later. Remember, Oakland is interviewing few and accepting few, so they are going to be really careful about handing out acceptances as someone else mentioned.

On a completely unrelated note, can anyone speak about what the honors grading scale refers to (they said their classes are P/F and Honors)?

I happen to excel at statistics haha, and 2 standard deviations above the mean is CRAZY high.

At OUWB everyone can get honors, that is... there is no Z scoring or bla bla bla... if you get a raw score of 85-90%+ (Not sure which one it is exactly) on the exam, you honored that exam. If your total grade in a course is higher than the grade required for honors... you get honors.

Some courses have higher or lower honor requirements. It all depends.

Amanda.eleven will prob jump in and correct me. 🙂

hey code,
do you have any idea what financial aid is like at OUWB? need/merit based? average award size? any grants/scholarships in place yet?

You get 1 type of aid, either need or merit based. They are very hush-hush about the size of the awards and specific grade/MCAT combinations and what is considered need.

Sorry I've been quiet... 2 exams tomorrow!

1. Honors cutoff depends on the class [pass is 70% across the board though] -- like CodeBlu said, everyone can hypothetically get honors, but the exams are hard so...

2. From the last interview day I volunteered at, Dean Grabowski said that ~40% of our class received some sort of scholarship (not just a loan) -- this could mean a 1-time award or one that is renewable each year (contingent upon passing your classes, of course). Regardless, any money is good money.

In other news... I'm volunteering at the 12/9 interview day! I hope there's a good group of SDNers there. =)

For scholarships, do you know if they have applications that we fill out for that or will they just tell you that you're going to be a recipient for a scholarship?

Thanks Amanda for all your info throughout the cycle! If I end up going to OUWB, I'll definitely have to meet you!

No [additional] application is necessary [they use the information you've provided already, as well as any updates you send in]. Accepted students will find out about whether or not they will receive a scholarship around March/April [right in time for that May 15 deadline...]. Students who get off the waitlist after May 15 find out about scholarships when they get the call [that was me].

If anyone is ever around campus, I love meeting accepted students/interviewees over coffee. 🙂

ditto, thanks Amanda. I did not start getting on SDN until AFTER I interviewed (or right around when interviewed) and I realized after stalking SDN that I sat next to you at Beaumont (and I didn't say a word to you lol). But truly, your insight has been inspirational/extremely informative!

I look forward to meeting/conversing again as a fellow student! Unfortunately I live in California so it is not super easy for me to make it back out there! Good luck on the exams!

Too bad we didn't get to chat! Feel free to contact me if anything comes up during your application cycle [even not OUWB related].

I'm planning on writing an entry in the near future about each of our courses and how they have been going so far as well as touching on the innovative curriculum... are there any other requests for blog entries?

Hey e'rebody, complete 10/26, interview offered 11/1. Hurray Oakland! Heading down for 11/11, it'll be my first interview, can't wait!

Such a long thread, I was wondering if someone from OUWB could tell me about how the school seems to prep you for entry into the national/international medical community. I've heard only stunning things about the learning environment, but I don't know much about how the school might set you up for residency opportunities, international summer electives, etc. Obviously it might be a tough question (given how no graduates yet exist), but even vague impressions on what the school might be promoting in those fields may be helpful!

Also, I have a question about acceptance guidelines. I'm from Canada, and my local med schools only begin giving out interviews in late January. Given that I'm interviewing next week (and assuming I even have a remote change of acceptance 😛), the acceptance offer deadline for OUWB comes way before I even hear back from schools in Canada. Obviously I'm super, super excited about my Oakland invite, but it scares me to think of having to close on an offer before I get any word from any other schools. Is there any flexibility with the system? Can you withdraw from an accepted admission?

Obviously all so skeptical, I'm definitely a few biiiig steps away from admissions decisions. Still, a girl can dream, right? Sometimes dreaming = planning.. 😀

Hey, thanks! Verrry excited. Tried to PM you my stats, but no dice, haha. International, GPA ~3.8 (not sure about sGPA), MCAT >38. It's the MCAT that did it for me, I know... Hope its useful to you, good luck! 🙂

Hey guys...I'm interviewing next week (anyone else doing the 11/22 date??). I've been perusing the SDN feedback form but I wanted some more info...Interviews are open file except for grades and MCAT right? Also, were there any tough questions (about ethics or what not) or did they mostly stick to asking about your AMCAS activities and OUWB? Thank you!!

Yes..just confirmed interview 11/22. Superexcited..its my first invite..Complete 10.25. Before the email i was so tired of not hearing anything.

IIRC she said we wouldn't hear tonight. Maybe that helps ease some anxiety, but please take it with a grain of salt in case i'm wrong.

Yeah. The committee met today though, we'll find out either tonight but more likely tomorrow. IIRC = if i recall correctly
