Well maybe tomorrow it is then. If anyone hears something, let us that are waiting know!

I have my phone practically glued to my hand hoping for a phone call from the Dean today

If you get accepted, you will get a phone call from Dean Grabowski first or if you miss the call a voice mail to call her before you receive any e-mail by the way. I still remember that phone call 🙂 Good luck all!!!

Looks like no calls today then... which is kind of a relief, cause I sure didn't get one lol!

But then again, I interviewed like 10 weeks ago, so things aren't looking super rosy NEways...

Wasn't sure if no calls or if the happy accepted people were too busy celebrating to report. Sort of yay for the former, i guess??

Glad to hear that no calls went out today. Did you call the admissions office to confirm this or are you basing that on the fact that nobody has posted about it here =]?

The latter... so it could be wrong.

Complete 8/9, but I haven't heard anything...I really want to interview here!

Anyone else in the same boat?
yes! I really really really just want the chance to interview! secondary complete since 8/30

To current OUWB students or interviewees in the know:::

Do you know the likelihood that a student would be able to take a year off (between, say MS3 - MS4) in order to complete a master's at a different institution?

I would suggest calling admissions on this one -- they can get you a more definite answer than anyone else.

I forgot to write down the notification dates at my interview. Can someone please share this info. if available? Thanks a bunch. Best of luck.

Well, I am not really sure what to think about when they will call. Still haven't heard anything. Has anyone else?

The adcomm meets every two weeks on a Wednesday. They should have met this week so the next meeting is in 12 days. The dean of admissions tries to call the accepted students the same day, but she gets busy sometimes and doesn't get a chance to call right away.

This is all my own personal understanding though so someone correct me if I'm wrong

😱 Missed a call from Dean Grabowski, I think it was today but she called my home phone, so I can't be sure when! I'm going to try to call back/message first thing tomorrow, but given it's the weekend I might be out of luck until Monday. Do they call for anything except good news??

Ahhh! Thanks all of you, desperately needed some second opinions! I'd be flipping all weekend hoping/guessing, otherwise.. Still gonna be bouncing off the walls, but now I might have something to hold on to 😛

Cancelled my upcoming interview. I hope another Michigan resident can take it!!

Thank You, OUWB 😍

Thanks! Dean Grabowski left a voicemail to call Thursday. I didn't get the voicemail until yesterday, so that's when I called them. I left a message because the admissions staff were busy with interviews. I received an e-mail today.

I interviewed on Oct 28.

Hey - I called back first thing Saturday, Dean Grabowski returned the call Saturday evening. You were all right, I got in!:soexcited: First acceptance, love the school. Still a little shell-shocked, but SO happy.

I did get a voicemail, with a number at which to call back. I can't say for sure when the call came though, as it was to my home number, and we only noticed the call 24 hours or so after we'd last checked the machine - ie. it could've been any time from Thursday to Friday evening.

Good luck to everyone still waiting, with OUWB no news is still pretty good news - it only means they need a bit of time to think!

Definitely excited to have an opportunity to go to Oakland. Too bad the earliest interview date available was late January. Oh well, maybe the interviewers will be in a better mood just coming off the holiday break 🙂

Is the interview the traditional format (ie., not MMI)

After calling 12 schools to inquire about update letters I learned that Oakland has the friendliest admissions office of them all. Please love me Oakland.

Absolutely agree regarding their admissions staff....very friendly!

Yep, two traditional one-on-one interviews about 30 minutes....one on campus and the other at Beaumont hospital.

This is 100% true. A part of the "feel" I got from my interview at OUWB was that not only ADCOM but faculty and students are one of the things that make this school exceptional. I can only imagine other's having the same experience's.

Very friendly, open, warm, and nice. You can tell this is the atmosphere in which you want to learn and grow. I think they call it the "culture" of OUWB and I look forward to cultivating this.

Good luck to everyone!

Interviewed 11/11/11, so does that mean admissions meets for us on the 11/30/11 due to holiday?

Last year I also remembered them probably being the nicest and most responsive of all of the schools admissions departments. I remember having a quick question, them setting up an appointment with me right then for later in the day, stopping in, and them knowing me by name when I walked in.

Also, to anyone who interviews in the next month, after your interview, make sure to check out the lights in downtown Rochester. Just head 3 miles east on Walton and you'll get there, and you'll know when you get there 😀. Then get a drink at Rochester Mills Brewery, it's a great local brewery, and they make some pretty good beer in house - and if you're there on mon-thurs, billiards are free 😀. I'm sure you guys could arrange something with the current students, they are going to be your big brothers and sisters after all.

ok...I am trying to figure out my housing situation for next year. Here is my deal. I have a family 2 kids (very young) and my wife and I. I was thinking about buying a house because housing is dirt cheap in michigan BUT dont think I will because I dont know the area.

SO I am looking to rent. Do any current students or folks in the area have any advice on apartment/house rentals for a family? I am looking at a minimum 2 bed but 3-4 bed would be nice AND price is a big factor.

Thanks

You can purchase in Michigan for cheap, but Oakland University is located in one of the higher priced neighborhoods. I think Rochester is on most lists of top places to live in the U.S. and really, the dirt cheap housing is 20-30 minutes south of Oakland University. As far as renting there are 3 bedroom apartments near Oakland that run for around $1,000 a month and I believe the 2 bedroom is around 750-850$ a month and that is literally across the street from campus. I know the on campus housing provided for the medical students is $800 a month and it's 2 bedroom but fairly smaller than the housing located off campus. If you walk around campus there are typically flyers that have houses for rent.

Is there a lot of walking and especially walking around outside on the interview day?

Yes and yes. Although I'm sure they modify the tour in case of cold/snowy weather.

Either way you will have to go outside at certain points. Especially since they ship you out to Beaumont.

Look into Ferndale/Hazel Park/Royal Oak area. Not a far commute. Great communities. Cheap housing (especially Hazel Park on the Ferndale border). For example my girlfriend and I pay $625/mo total with heat and water included in our 2 bdr. flat. Can't go wrong. Good luck.

Wow. That's great value. Makes me feel like I'm wasting money paying $1200 a month for a one bedroom unit
