congrats hiyaman, maybe we can schedule our taxis from the airport together?

also, i'm going to fly in the afternoon before my interview and tryign to decide if it would be too much of a rush/too hurried to leave the night of my interview -- there's only 1 flight (at 7:45 pm, so I think that actually gives enough time to get to DTW if the interview day ends at 4:15 or 4:30 but it's a tight one). Maybe it'd be better if i stayed an extra night? i'd just have to pay another day for the hotel. what did most other ppl do? sorry it's my first one so i'm just very caught up in the details, haha.

***also, is it true that the interviewer doesn't know our grades and mcat? perhaps this is only 1 of the interviewers? in relation to this, i thought it was open file -- i guess it's closed?

This is true.

what date are you interviewing on? I haven't picked out a date yet, I'm trying to see whether late october or early november is better for me.

Yay! Congrats and good luck! :luck:

Thank you very much. 🙂!

I got excellent news today - interview invite!

Complete 7/31

I had just checked my status in the morning, and then several hours later received an invite by email.

I am excited to interview at this school -- so many of the first years have positive feedback, and even premeds who phone in and visit say that the staff are amazing.

I haven't scheduled an interview date. I wonder how big the advantage of interviewing earlier on really is.

I am thinking of picking a date in mid-November-to-early-December.

Anyone else going then?

I look forward to visiting OUWB and am already nervous about messing up my interview. :scared: 🙂

(Edit: why do all of these sentences seem to start with "I"?)

Congrats! And not all: you should make that second line "I was complete..." and the second to last one "I was wondering if anyone was..." in order to achieve wonderful symmetry 😛

Interview Invite

Complete late august.

The next one feels even better. It never gets old. I promise.

VERY true!

I just got an interview. my FIRST of the season! my first ever! it's the first sign of life since I completed most of my apps in late july-mid august. it's the first...you get the point.

I'm so happy right now!

Congrats to you! And cheers to your huge enthusiasm!

It will be interesting to interview at OU and Wayne on back-to-back days. I'm interested in seeing their differences in approach and philosophy.

183 out of 420 interviews scheduled according to the tracker (9/14). Still waiting...haven't heard anything. Congrats to those who have interviewed and hoping for good news soon!

Im interviewing early Oct hiyaman so I guess we can't share a taxi then 🙁 anyone else? The taxi is like at least $80...

Just curious, can anyone comment on how many applicants are at each interview day? I'm thinking around 10...?

@edge of desire, I'm interviewing early October as well, but I am 70% likely going to rent a car.

It should be very interesting.

Congrats Frazier!!!

I've spent 98% of my time over the last 3 months trying to figure out the cryptic deeper meaning of House...as a Navii or whatever...with an intel sign on his forehead... blue houses are intelligent? Sad doctors are... computers?

Long story short... the intel sign is cuz my class of 2016 friends think I'm a robot cuz I spam so often and I don't really have a need for sleep. Blue Na'vi House is an inside joke for my favorite song which is Blue by Eiffel 65, and it's my favorite show... House that is.

im from cali, i would love to say i go to oakland univ.!!

CodeBlu, I just gotta know (I really mean this in the nicest way possible) what is it that you do for a living that you are able to respond to essentially every post personally?

I feel like I LIVE on my laptop and I'm not on here anywhere as much as you are!

Maybe this is just the iphone generation making my (24 year-)OLD ass feel the tech disconnect, haha

LoL... I worked in a lab. I'm between jobs right now though (Just got a sweet hospital based job). But yes, the on the iPhone generation trumps all. I graduated a while ago.

I'm sure when I start working again, I will die off...

Plus I type really really quickly so that helps. I type like 90 wpm. So... yeah. 🙂

Thank you for an awesome day OUWB - this was my best interview experience by far. So much free food and coffee lol! But in all honesty, I don't think I've been treated with as much respect at any other interview, so thanks! You left me with a great feeling for this school, and WAAYY exceeded my expectations. 👍

Here's to hoping we're both accepted 🙂

Good luck to everyone applying and interviewing!!

I just received and my completed my secondary a few days ago (I was waiting on a new MCAT score before assigning my app to more schools). I hope being so late doesn't put me at a terrible disadvantage 🙁

This may sound weird, but amandaeleven, were you at the Applicant Visit Day this past June? If so, I'm wondering if you're the Amanda who was in my tour group! Either way, thanks for giving us so much useful information!

This is undoubtedly my number one choice for Med School. HOPING WISHING PRAYING FOR AN INTERVIEW AND EVENTUAL ACCEPTANCE!!!!! I <3 OUWB😍

I am an IS, my primary was verified 9/7 and I took the MCAT late so I have not received my score yet, could that be why I have not heard anything yet?

Yeah you wont get an interview before they get your MCAT score.

24 people at the interview day, it seems as though the group is broken up into groups of 12 and 6 at specific times based on watching people around campus, but I am not 100% sure.

Do you know an approximation as to how many hours of lecture there are per day at Oakland? Also are lectures available online?

The curriculum is really unique at Oakland, so I think it would be hard to say how much straight "lecture" they have--they blend several different learning modalities. If I remember right, these are scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm everyday with a two hour lunch--except Friday, which is a half-day.

I remember hearing that lectures were being recorded and would be available for review (emphasis on review, since I think attendance is mandatory.)

Hopefully I have that all right! 🙂

Sounds about right. Some days they finish a lot earlier than 5. Depends on the schedule.

So, 24 sounds about right, and pretty much we were broken in to 2 groups for tours etc, had lunch all together. For the TBL exercise, it was groups of...4? Yeah I think so.

M-W Lecture 9-5 with 10 minute breaks every hour and a 1 hour lunch break (according to the example Oakland shows), I'm sure it fluctuates. Thursday Lectures/Patient Interaction at Beaumont and Friday showed PBL as a half-day. Lectures are mandatory; however, they do lecture capture for review purposes.

Yup that was me! Feel free to keep asking questions. 🙂

Lecture/labs take place M-Th, 8am-5pm [generally, not always] and Fridays are always 8am-11am. 1 to 2 hour lunch breaks. Thursday lectures are *primarily* at RO Beaumont, but not always. And *some* Fridays are dedicated to TBLs -- please keep in mind that there is a distinction between PBL and TBL. For a detailed description of how we do TBL go to my entry on it: http://www.amandaxi.com/2011/08/day-5-exercise-in-team-based-learning.html. All interviewees also do a simulated TBL... so you have an idea of what it's like but the real thing ends up being a bit different from that experience anyway.

Thanks for the clarification Amanda.eleven!

Anyone else interviewing on Friday? I'll admit that I am not as familiar with OUWB since I didn't apply here last year but this place is definitely a wild card for me because of the amazing reviews everyone keeps giving about it. Very much looking forward to coming up there on Friday!

Does anyone know the interview/acceptance numbers for Oakland. I know they only marticulated 50 but do you know how mnay acceptances they offered?

Really hoping to hear something from Oakland soon. I've been complete since 7/15. My mom keeps asking me about this school in particular since she went there for nursing school

I'm interviewing Friday! See you there!! I'm pretty excited/nervous for this interview, and after reading amandaxi's blog, i can't wait to see the school for myself!

So I have an interview nearby Oakland U (Wayne State) next month. would it be ok if i send an update letter and see if they can kinda squeeze me in for an interview then? or is it better to call and ask? Thanks!

- i'm complete but no interview yet

Man I was really hoping they would send out more invites today and that I would be a lucky recipient. Please Oakland interview me 😀

+1 I wonder what they have been doing with my file for the past 2 months... Seeing as it's a school that rejects early I'm hypothesizing one of the following two scenarios:

1. The application is lost among the many many other apps

2. They really have no idea if they should grant an interview or reject

I like this school a lot I hope I get a chance to tell them that!:xf: Come onnnn Oakland!

Similar situation here. It might just be that they rank applicants and send out waves of invites in order of rank. We could get later invites, or, be put on hold...who knows.

That's interesting I've never heard of that. Sounds like something an adcom would do. Like invite the ones less likely to accept later in the cycle or something.😕
