NOOOO i was up til 4am yesterday and had my phone right by me (no i wasnt up just for this i just dont have a normal schedule) and i figured multiple tweets and the email couldn't be wrong so i must have just not been on the list so i didnt have my phone on me this afternoon/evening and i missed the call but i got the call YAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY.

that was my internal dialogue after checking this thread then DIVING to the floor to find my phone.

😀!!!!!!!!!😀

is he still calling or were all of your guys' calls from a lot earlier?? need some closure before going to bed =]

I got the call earlier this afternoon! I can't overstate how incredibly thankful and humbled I am to join the entering of class of 2012, especially if it will be at THE Ohio State University! It's never a bad thing to get a call from Dr. Capers! 😀

To everyone that didn't receive a call today, going through last year's thread shows that there were more than a handful of applicants that never received the call yet received accepted statuses. In other words, just hang tight until Tuesday morning. You're not out of the running yet! :luck:

I really hope so. I really liked OSU when I visited and Dr. Capers is seriously so cool. Idk what role the awesomeness of the Dean of Admissions should play when picking a med school, but so far OSU is definitely number one in that category.

I hear you loud and clear, my friend! He is definitely someone that I would like on my side throughout med school! Dr. Capers is really supportive, and he definitely recognizes how much the students contribute to the school! 🙂

Just hang tight, check your status on Tuesday, and let us know how it goes! If on the off-chance that you are deferred, which I will pray doesn't happen, let them know that you are very, very interested! At my interview, they said that they definitely do take deferred students, so don't give up then! Again, I hope that you don't even have to go down that route! :luck:

Thanks for the words of encouragement and congrats on your acceptance! OSU really seems to care about the students. Def a great quality in a school.

Anytime! Thank you for the congratulations! 😀

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Hmm "Deferred - Decision Pending". Better than a waitlist since they continue to review your application (does OSU have a formal waitlist?). I saw some people got in after getting this status for a month or two last year, but since they overaccepted last year there's less spots. Oh well, grats to those who got acceptances, OSU definitely impressed me.

Could someone explain how exactly the Independent study Pathway works? It seems like the Integrated pathway is the typical med school curriculum, while the independent study pathway just gives students online access to all the material and expects them to just teach themselves...?

How many students interview on each day?

Is Dr. Capers pronounces Cap-ers (like a cap you wear on your head) or Cape-rs (like what a super-hero wears to fly)?

Thank you. How can I guarantee that I'm accepted?
47 MCAT/4.01 cGPA/Personally deliver five babies in Mongolia(need pictures or it didn't happen)/be a distant relative of Woody Hayes (must have pedigree with you at interview).

You did all of that stuff, right. right?

You forgot that you also need to put on ruby red slippers and tap the heels together 3 times and say "theres no place like med-school"

so when accepted you go online to confirm, then they send you a letter and you return that with 25$ to confirm.

the online thing i did, but the letter/check is only if you choose them to matriculate at right? because i thought originally this was to hold my spot, but the letter itself has a due date of may 15th.... anyone know if this is supposed to be a now thing or what?

When do they start moving people from deferred pool? Any guess?

If we interviewed October 17th, does that mean we find out on the coming Monday night?

I interviewed on that day too, and I'm pretty sure he said we would get a call in 2 weeks. But I've heard from other people OSU has a 1 week decision time frame, so I don't know...

I interviewed on the 12th and haven't heard anything yet. So I am guessing two weeks?

When and how do you hear back if waitlisted or rejected?

It will be via status update. You'll receive an email that says your status has been updated, so you'll have to log-in to the status page to find out. As far as when is concerned, it will have to be sometime after that Wednesday. I would watch their twitter for updates! Good luck! :luck:

What is their twitter?

There you go: http://twitter.com/#!/ohiostatemed 🙂

I interviewed at this school yesterday. Everything you need is within walking distance of the college, and it seems like exciting changes (eg, new curriculum and buildings) will be in place for our class's M1 and M3. I hope to receive good news in two weeks!

i liked that aspect too, but the newer curriculum is kind of turning me off. They seem to be heading towards a lot more independent/online learning, and a lot less lecture + the fact its the first year they are trying it

They told us 3-4 hours of in-class lecture each day. What do you consider independent study?

Everything you need is within walking distance of the college,
Living near the medical campus is pretty safe(not so common, I found during interviewing last year) and literally anything you could want is really within walking distance. Nice deal.

Trust me.... Having less lecture is far better than having more.

Freaking out!!! Ahh someone please post as soon as they get "the call!"

Are there any OSU medical students on here that would be willing to answer a few questions for me via private message? Thanks in advance.

Sent in a secondary here mid-late August. I guess I was passed over here for some reason since I've had no news. Oh well.

Practically speaking, is deferred a separate status to waitlisted here? I know that officially it is, but have any current students been successful after receiving this status?
Thanks

Last year when I interviewed (very late in the cycle) Dr. Capers said specifically that 15 students had been pulled from the Deferred list. I was placed on that list after my interview, but several people were rejected so they definitely do reject post interview...So at least for now Deferred is better than nothing. But no, Deferred = up for re-review after they are able to interview other qualified applicants to see if you make the cut - not a wait-list unfortunately 🙁
